  1. Yes I have considered it, we married in Hong Kong. My husband is a foreigner living in China and we had to marry in Hong Kong. We were denied at K1 in 2007, married in 2008. The Hong Kong route is quicker than the China route and I can attend the interview with him in Hong Kong. If we do it the other way I believe he will have to go back through Guangzhou and I am not sure we want to go that route again.

When he went in for his interview they said they aren't use to foreigners applying for that type of visa and they were shocked that a woman was applying for him. On the normal side its men applying for their wives or girlfriends. Not the other way around. We never got an answer as to why he was denied, I believe it was my amount of visits.

  2. Unless either of you have residency in China, you will not be able to marry in China. I would suggest you marry in Hong Kong. My husband and I got married in Hong Kong because he was in China on a work visa as well and did not have residency papers in China. Hong Kong was alot easier and quicker. We filed first on a K1 and was denied because China said they weren't used to foreigners filing. So we married in Hong Kong and filed K3. It only takes a month at the most from the time the paperwork goes from the NVC center to the consulate till an interview, compared to China that took about 6 months.

    Just my opinion.

  3. I have a friend that is starting this process. He is getting ready to file K3 paperwork. He is suppose to send his paperwork to California service center, but he is getting ready to move from the midwest to the East Coast and I know if you live on the East Coast you need to file through Vermont. Would it be okay if he went ahead and filed now through CSC or should he wait and file the VSC? He isn't do to move until the middle or end of May but he wants to go ahead instead of waiting.

  4. We had that happen too. We got the white slip in December of 2007. My fiance at the time went to that attorney you mentioned, we didn't have any luck. We got married in Hong Kong in February of 2008 and are going to apply for the K3. He is a foreigner living in China and with marrying in Hong Kong I will be able to attend the interivew with him. I hope that is a good thing. Good luck with whatever you do. It's a long process for everyone it's just something you have to have a lot of patience with.

  5. I asked these same questions in candle for love website, so am hoping I get some answers. From my timeline you can see our K1 was denied in China. My fiance and I got married in Hong Kong in February. I am getting ready to mail in our K3 paperwork. My questions are:

    1. My husband lives in Guangzhou, China, he will have his interview in Hong Kong. Will he need to get a post office box in Hong Kong for them to mail his paperwork to, or will they mail it to China?

    2. What will happen if he moves after I have sent the paperwork in, is there a change of address form I need to fill out or do I call the USCIS and advise them of the new address?

    Thanks.

  6. Has anyone ever applied for a K3 after getting a 221g on a K1? My fiance had his interview in China and was given a blue slip 221g marked, they told him it was being sent back for security checks. 2 weeks later he gets a letter in the mail stating they believe we don't have a bonafide relationship and is being sent back to USCIS for possible revocation. We want to get married in Hong Kong, we are both foreigners and we can get married there. He is a foreigner living in China. We just want to avoid any problems if we decide to get married, I just wanted to know if anyone has had similiar experiences and were you able to get the K3 or did you get a denial after you did that. I just know it make take months before we here anything and we don't want to wait months when we can get married and try a different route.

  8. I got the letter from NVC today stating my case "will be forwarded in the next week" (I already know it was forwarded on Thursday 7/19). However, (and how sad is this), my MOM was the first person to notice that my last name was spelled wrong.

Soooo...I called NVC, they said it's out of their hands and to call DOS.

But...I was curious and just called DOS this morning (before I got the letter) and DOS told me NVC still had my case and had not yet forwarded it. NVC confirmed tonight that it was sent 7/19, as I was told on 7/20 when I called. Soo...who's right?

Then the person at NVC said it was strange that on my NOA1 and NOA2 that my name was spelled correctly, yet at the NVC level....no.

So now what? I'll be calling DOS again in the morning but the mixed stories I've been getting lately are really grating on my nerves. Anyone else experience this?

I had the same problem they spelled my fiance's name wrong, so I called NVC saying it was spelled wrong, and they told me not to worry about it, that it was probably just a typo, because in their system it was spelled correctly and on the NOA1 and 2, it was spelled correctly. They said once he goes to the interview he would just have to tell them. I told my fiance when he calls the embassy to make sure that they have the correct spelling.

  9. Contact the consulate in the country your fiance is in now, and they should be able to tell them. My fiance is living in China and there on a work visa, he has residency in Algeria. I e-mailed Guangzhou and they said he could have his interview in China. I have read on here where others are in the same situation and they have been able to do it that way. Good luck.

  10. I called the NVC tonight to just check and see if my information had gotten to them, been calling every other day, and I got through tonight, a very nice lady asked for my phone number, my fiance's name and date of birth, then called me by name, so I knew my paperwork was there. I asked her what the status was and she said it was sent to Guangzhou yesterday.

It was a total of 3 weeks, since my NOA2, I feel so much better. So for anyone else waiting, you probably won't have much longer.

I used to think I was a very patient person but I am finding since this began, I am not.

  11. Hi guys just a quick question.my fiancee lives in NY and she have applied for K-1 visa. I live in Scotland on a student visa but i am a pakistani national. I want to know that any one of you ever encountered such case, and if do so please tell me how long did the whole procedure take and where the person had his/her interview (in pakistan or uk)?...thankx all

    :(

I am not in the same situation, but my fiance lives in China and is there on a business visa, but from Algeria, he will interview in China. And unfornately for us, China is a country that can take quite awhile. Good luck with both of you.
