I see. I’m not changing my name, and here in Chicago they only show the name before the marriage on the marriage certificate. I’m worried that the USCIS would think that the name on my marriage certificate isn’t me. Do you think I would have a problem with it? My i-94 and SSN also don’t have my middle name.

The same thing for me. Both my I-94 and SSN don't have the middle name but I don't think it'll be a problem cause when you file the AOS there's a part there where it says "other names used" and that's where you're gonna put your whole maiden name just like how it is in your Philippine passport so they can have a reference that it's really you on the mc, ssn and I-94

When they amended your marriage certificate, did they just put an annotation or they totally deleted the wrong middle name and issued you a new marriage certificate with the correct middle name?

In which state did you get married? Do you have your maiden name or your married name on your marriage certificate?

We got married in California. Both my names are shown on the marriage certificate, my maiden name and on the lower part is my new name with my husband's last name.

Hi, I’m also a Filipino and when I filed for a marriage license, the clerk didn’t include the middle name.

Did you have your marriage certificate amended to add your middle name on it?

Hello, to answer your question, No we didn't filed anything to amend our marriage certificate. I've done research about this too and it says that they do that with everyone's name because that's the naming format here in the US especially if you have two first names. With regards to filing the AOS we were adviced that it doesn't matter if my name on our marriage cert doesn't show my middle name correctly. I can still file however I want my name to be on my gc. The marriage certificate is only used to prove that I got married to my fiancé and that I am taking his last name as my new last name. Hope this helps.

  4. Hi everyone! Is it ok to apply for work using my married name even if my EAD has my maiden name? I just did my biometrics appointment and I forgot to bring my marriage certificate so the ASC office did my fingerprinting with my maiden name. What should I do? Can I just bring my marriage certificate along? I haven't changed my SSA to my married name as well cause i'm actually waiting for my EAD with my married name but it turns out that it will have my maiden name too. But even so, can I still change it also? TIA for anyone who can answer.

For future references, just try to keep a folder with ALL your visa process documentation and bring it with you to ANY place where you’re required to go by the US government. One just never knows when it might come handy. Doing that certainly has saved me at least twice of getting things all messed up, one of those times being precisely going to my biometrics and being asked for my marriage certificate (I had brought the whole thing just in case). That’s why the lady at the counter said to me what I explained before; she was surprised I had brought the document.

I always do that, I don't know why for this one I became careless and just brought only my passport with me. Maybe because I was also confident since I already included my marriage certificate in my aos application and yes I also put down on my application that my other names used is my maiden name. Thank you so much for noticing my post.

Oh boy. The staff at the ASC's are really clueless. I would call USCIS and ask what name they have on file because that may in fact be an error.

BUT the officers at the ASC's have no authority to change your name on the form. All they are responsible for is collecting your photo and fingerprints in the name listed on the form. Sure they are required to ask for official ID in the same name but they cant argue that it's not you. In worst case scenario they could have sent you away and told you to come back with your MC.

    Just call.

I know. They didn't even ask me to just come back with the MC, they right away sent me to another officer who told me that they have me as my maiden name on their system. I'll try to call USCIS asap about this. Thank you so much.

  7. Hello everyone! Need some answers to those who have experienced this. I just had my biometrics done and they put it under my maiden name cause I didn't get to bring my marriage certificate with me to my appointment. So now i'm assuming my ead/ap and gc will have my maiden name on it though I know I can still change my gc into my married name by the time of the interview. My question is, can I call USCIS now to change my name even before the interview? So that my ead/ap will already have my married name? cause when I filed for my aos I did included a copy of my marriage certificate anyway. TIA.

  8. Hi everyone. Hopefully someone can enlighten me with this problem or i'm not really sure if it's gonna be a problem. I am a Filipina with two first names and on our marriage certificate the minister separated those two names as my first name and middle name. She didn't included my mom's surname as my middle name which is what is written on my birthcertificate. I'm not sure if it's gonna be a problem cause i know that the name format is different here in the US so i'm assuming that's why the minister did it like that. But I still wanna know if anyone have also experience this. TIA.

Have you completed Report of Marriage through the Philippine consulate yet?  That will be your first rock in the road as they will want to use Philippine traditional naming format.  Then later with DFA and renewing your passport in your married name, DFA will use traditional name format also.   So that would be a YES to having problems if think you can use your new non-traditional name for the Philippine  passport

No it shouldn't be a problem.  Technically you are out of status because the 90 days of the I-94 expired and you are still in the USA without adjusting status.   But reality is the moment you file the I-485 all is forgiven .. ;)  :)

Omg really?? Wow now that is what i'm worried about. Do you think there's some other way we can fix that problem with my name? Thank you.

Your Philippine passport you mean? No, when will your passport expire? You can renew your passport here, but before you do you need to do the report of marriage and there they will see that you did a name change based on your marriage certificate.

Oh really? Wow i didn't know that. I thought that I have to go back to our country for that. But yeah i'm just gonna stick to using my second first name as my middle name here. There are some forums where I read that the USCIS doesn't allow that unless you are a US Citizen. That we should still stick to our original middle name that is indicated on our passports. It's really confusing 😞😞  Thank you so much for everything 😊

He maintained his full original name. We didn't change or add anything like my last name. We didn't feel it necessary, so he still just has legally "First First Middle Last"

Oh ok. I understand now. Thank you so much for answering my questions ☺️

I’m a Filipina, but I only have one name, so when I got married what was once my middle name, which is my moms middle name got dropped and my dads last name is now my middle name and my husbands last name as my last name. Just like what @ben&zian said you really didn’t have to change it you could have just put Sharmaine Mari ( your dad’s last name) Miranda. When you apply for your AOS use the new name you have on your marriage certificate.

I know 😞 I only realized it now. But do you think if I renew my passport and have my name change I would encounter any problems? Thank you for answering.

not filing AOS puts you out of protected status once your i94 expires. its not really a big deal. unless of course, something happens and it BECOMES a big deal. odds are it wouldnt, but.....

filing sooner is highly recommended, but no, not a requirement.

Thank you so much. I feel relieved now cause my I-94 will expire tomorrow 😅

Can't specify as to any issues with the passport because of the name thing; but you don't have to change it you know. My husband has two first names also, we filed everything like that and had no problems.

Also, you can file for AOS anytime. Sooner the better really.

Thank you for your answers. Is your husband also a Filipino? If so did he dropped his middle name (mom's last name) and his dad's last name on your marriage certificate too? And replace it with your last name? Or did he maintained either one of it as his middle name? I'm just really confuse and I don't wanna encounter any problems with my documents 🙈

  15.

Hello everyone! Hopefully someone can help me. I am a Filipina under K1 visa and I have two first names which is Sharmaine Mari then my middle is my mom's last name and my last name is that of my dad's because that's how it is in the Philippines. But I know here in the US middle name is considered as the second first name so for my marriage certificate my husband and I agreed that we put my new name as..

    First name: Sharmaine
    Middle name: Mari
Last name: Miranda (husband's last name)

I haven't applied for my AOS yet but I already applied for my SSN and there I also put Mari as my middle name and my last name is my father's last name because I am still single when I applied for it. My question is will I have any problems renewing my passport back in the Philippines if I did my name like this? And on my AOS application, what format should I use? Lastly is it ok if we cannot file for the AOS right away even if my I-94 or visa duartion is already expired? Thank you so much to anyone who will answer. I would really appreciate it.

You petition, does it have both first name and last name?

DS-160, you filled it out with both first names and last name? You said yes.

Does your passport have your first names and last name as it shows on the petition?

Does your Birth Certificate have both names on it as well?

If you answered YES to all, then you should have no problem. When we applied for k1 visa, my wife (fiance back then) received the notice with only first and last name and she does have two first names. She was not questioned because all other documents have her First names, middle name and last name same as on her Passport, BC and Police report.

I answer Yes to everything. The name that I put on my appointment schedule is the same as what shows on my passport, BC and petition. I just got confused when I saw that the confirmation page on the DS-160 that I need to print out didn't show my middle name (a.k.a. my mom's last name) but on the appointment schedule it showed everything. So yeah I just got worried with that part. Thank you so much for answering and God bless.

  17. Hi everyone. It's my first time to ask a question here on VisaJourney and I really hope you guys can enlighten me. I'm just a little bit worried with regards to my appointment schedule for my interview. I added my middle name to my first name so what shows on my confirmation letter is: Last name, First names+Middle name. I already have two first names btw and that's what I also did on my DS-160 cause here in the Philippines we always include our middle names when being asked for our full name. So yeah. I'm just worried cause the confirmation letter for the DS-160 doesn't show my middle name even if I included it and on my appointment letter it shows everything. Is there gonna be a problem with that? I just don't wanna get questioned on the day of my interview. I hope anyone understood everything I said 🙈
