  1. That's the thing. i watched them let people breeze on by me, but I had to stay at both airports and explain why I keep going to Jordan. That was their exact line of questioning too, and most of the questions were about my husband and not about me. Who's FLYING? ME? OR HIM?! Uugh.

you may be flying... but the bigger fear is you being supplied with illegal things to take with you. anyone who goes to a neighboring country (esp more than once) gets this in israel, no matter your race or religion. better safe than sorry.

  2. i dunno... if they all did that for everyone i'd feel better. i feel its not fair to profile...so why not just grill everyone?

the israeli el al does this and i was more than happy for them to ask me an hour's worth of questions and pick apart all my luggage with a bomb tester....touching each thing one by one. i felt safe! i think our TSA and airline employees need to follow suit with el al's program.

man i love el als program. i never feel safer. and ive had my stuff thrown apart by them, and a friend was even body searched before his flight!

security stuff doesnt bother me. would seriously suck to have an SO turned away though. im more worried about the security ON the plane, rather than AFTER it... personal fear though

  3. Ha! Top 10 for "green card":

    6. Santa Clara, CA, USA

    8. Pleasanton, CA, USA

    10. San Jose, CA, USA

#6 & #10 I get because of the number of immigrants we have here in Silicon Valley, but #8 is a kinda far off suburb that doesn't make much sense to me. I would have thought San Jose would be much higher.

pleasanton is seen as like "the nice place". sj just isnt that nice. and there are still a lot of high tech and buisnesses up around there, along with a huge ATT and safeway headquarters. i was also surpised to see it there. SJ makes sense so low... only because santa clara is higher. its just a nicer place for the same things! i guess palo alto is too expensive?

  4. Ha! Top 10 for "green card":

    1. Nairobi, Kenya

    2. Colombo, Sri Lanka

    3. Sofia, Bulgaria

    4. Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro

    5. New York, NY, USA

    6. Santa Clara, CA, USA

    7. Rabat, Morocco

    8. Pleasanton, CA, USA

    9. Tehran, Iran

    10. San Jose, CA, USA

hmm... my home towns get two of the top 10... yay for silicon valley

  5. when i was in israel i picked up a ton of hebrew. when i spent time with his family i picked up more... and now im in a conversational hebrew class. even though its over my head a lot, its so nice to be back in it, and talking with people, and having the israeli mentality.

the easiest way is to throw yourself into it. i know that my SO gets frustrated we dont speak more hebrew, but his english is perfect, and my hebrew isnt. simple as that. i hope to get to the point where we can converse fluently in both... but ive got a while to go on that. i also want to learn because as of now my conversations with his family, whom i love, are short and simple... because they dont speak english!

  6. my SO and i met in person, but have been long distance for over a year now... it is so true that having a next visit in mind helps. we are averaging seeing each other every 4 months or so, which really isnt bad considering the distance.

we talk twice a day, except for on shabbat (which is the most annoying 34 hours EVER when we are apart). we use ICQ so i can SMS him phone from my computer, and bother him all day! im at my computer as much as he is with his phone so it works. im writing my thesis papers and working and planning a wedding... stay busy!

we are planning to only stay here for a little while, until i finish my degree and such. then back to israel we go! we both know thats where we want to end up, for lots of reasons. but for now, the USA makes sense... problem is that i miss israel just as much as he does~

  7. NO, you shouldn't be offended, i thought you were 22 due to the last 2 digits of your nick

lol. actually thats got nothing to do with it. just so happens i was born on the 22nd of a month. its my lucky number.

lets hope its also a lucky age, and this visa process goes quick! :innocent:

  8. im 22 (youngin!) and hes 27.. theres just over 5 years between us

    I figured you were 22 ;)

lol, should i be offended or something?

and i guess i miss the mark. my SO is older, and not the USC... we like to defy these norms!

  9. how much does this apply in my situation?

my SO is an electrical engineer, graduated from a university in israel, and has worked for about 6 months at an american based company in israel. think we need to get his degree evaluated or is it enough that he already works for an american based company?

  10. i also chose moderate right

    "you are a

    Social Conservative

    (31% permissive)

    and an...

    Economic Moderate

    (41% permissive)

You are best described as a:

    Totalitarian

You exhibit a very well-developed sense of Right and Wrong and believe in economic fairness."

so im not a totalitarian. but pretty well on the rest of it. lol... im glad it told me i have a well developed sense of right and wrong... which it tells everyone?

  11. nov 11 2005

he got up the nerve to ask me out on text message, though we had just hung out the night before. walked to the movies and watched Mask Of Zorro 2. In Israel there are intermissions in the movie, so we had the most awkward moments ever. but conversation there and back was fun and easy, and i liked walking.

didnt hold hands the entire time. he wasnt sure how religious i was, and didnt want to offend me.

when we got back to my trailer (yes i was living in a trailer... stupid school) he went to hug me goodnight and i kissed him. so much for being a nice religious girl. that was it though. weve been serious since then

  12. im in the same situation

really, dont worry about it. you cant plan for wars. and my SO has lots of family in comabt (including him when hes in). there may be a war, there may not be. but its israel, they know how to deal with it

be more concerned with israeli attitudes and getting paperwork done

oh and in the last lebannon war, my so was given the freedom to come see me. it is war, but sometimes you can fiddle with the system if necessary

  13. Wildroze, Although you deleted your comment, it was still read.

Achmadinejad does not deny the Holocaust. He talks aout freedom of speech and the world's sensitivity about talking about anything related to the Holocaust that might be perceived as anti-semitic.

Any review of the man's life, his education, would reveal he is a smart man who is clearly pushing limits in world politics. He says things that rile people up, and that is his point.

i actually didnt mean to dlete my post, the computer was acting up. i still stand behind what i say.

first off, he didnt make a comment about palestinian vs israeli towns. he made a comment about Israeli/Egyptian/Syrian/Iranian. I agree they would be the same, but dont get upset about a comment not made.

also, the second point are ttwo very different things. ahmadinejad has made it quite clear that he is anti israel and anti american. he has come forth loudly to declare things like the denial of the holocaust, which makes him headline news. headline news is often distorted by media. a creation of an israeli town in iran or syria for training purposes would NOT be headline news because im quite sure they already exist. again, if they didnt i would be greatly surprised. so they are NOT headline news.

hes a smart man... and so was hitler, and many other leaders

  14. But one wonders how the casual observor would differentiate a town set up for FIBUA operations from being Israeli/Egyptian/Syrian/Iranian etc etc.

    Signage in Hebrew?

Well, if you don't know the difference in the appearance of a Palestinian town and and Israeli town, you would make the comment you did, I suppose.

And I think it's ridiculous to pretend the MSM wouldn'tpick up a story like this should the tables turn, and make a huge deal of it. Case in point, the absolute bastardization of Ahmadinejad's speech as MK outlined.

  15. i know you really want an answer, but ive think youve gotten it

it has happened. im sure that there are many recreations of israeli towns and places. otherwise the intifada would have not had as many "successes" as it did.

they exist. the media doesnt care. maybe it does sometimes, but on the whole there are MANY more things to be up in arms about

    just an opinion

  16. okay sorry for mislabeling you a lefty  I meant left leaning only because i thought i understood a post to be supportive of finding real peace in the conflict without spouting off with ideological extremism. So I should have said, someone intelligent enough to understand the issue (F)

lol, thats right, i lean right. but im not an extremist. ive lived there, i know the situation, and extremism on EITHER SIDE is not the answer. so if thats what you meant by me being a lefty im all for it.

just dont get that confused with my other political leanings :innocent:

  17. wow im glad to see im the topic of a discussion

im glad theres at least semi coherent dialogue here. but some comments i want to make

i am not usually comfortable posting here. im shocked that someone mentioned that israelis should join the european forum. israel is very much a part of the middle east. there is a strong middle eastern culture there. no, most israeli citizens are not arabs, but that does not make them european. its this complex that we have to deal with.

no im not israeli, my so is. but ive lived there. im not a scholar on it, but i know what ive experienced. im not going to argue with people who will never agree with me, and are not open to discussion. but i greatly appriciate that people are willing to stick up for me.

im not going to make an emotional "you all suck and im gonna cry" post. but thank you to those who are open to my thoughts, and are willing to argue. its a very loaded topic.

lol, and me a lefty? not quite. but thanks i guess

  18. well we all know im a jew by now

and i would not find it anti semitic. all countries build models to practice warfare. if iran planned to invade israel, they would be stupid not to build a model.

dont put words into the mouths of jews. not everything is anti semitic. its a war, get over it

I must have missed the part where people were putting words into the mouths of Jews. Shucks!

who would be doing the "oh its so anti-semitic then"? the arabs? the general american population who spent the last lebanon war complaining that the jews were the initiatiors and such?

no im pretty sure the above posters didnt mean those groups

oh and the war, as it says in the article, is the recent war with lebannon. or gaza, take your pick

  19. just a clarification question, similar topic.

i know you have to get married in the united states. but if my so and i need a religious wedding also, and would perfer it in israel, all that matters is getting permision to travel, correct? and we can continue the time of residence and such, if its just for the wedding and a week or so?

    thanks
