I AM A U.S CITIZEN! Before The Ceremony: My ceremony was scheduled to take place in Campbell (for San Jose office), CA around 8:30am so, as my wife and I were driving from far away, we decided to leave home early in case of traffic or anything so we ended up arriving around 7:10am and there was already a lot of people waiting (in their cars as it was cold outside). Around 7:30 (one hour before the ceremony) we decided to head to the front entrance and wait for it and there was already some people waiting over there. A man who apparently works at the theater thing came outside around 8:10 and said that they would open the doors at 8:30 and asked us to form 5 lines. 4 lines were for people that were waiting to become citizens and one line for family/friends and visitors. If you are bringing family/friends arrive early and get in line as the man said that they only had 200 seats for family/friends so some people wouldn't be able come in and that's exactly what happened as some people bring 10+ people for the ceremony!   Around 8:30 USCIS officers checking green cards and the oath ceremony notice. After checking those two, they write a number on your notice letter and circle it. That has to do with where you're going to seat once inside. Around 8:40am they let us in! The Ceremony:   Once you walk into the building, the officer waiting for you at the door checks your oath ceremony letter, tells you to go through door "west" or "east" of the theater and give you a white envelope with some cool stuff such as a small U.S flag, a passport application, a citizenship holder for your document and many other things!   After going through the "east - west" door, a lady directed me to my seat. When I got to my row, another lady took my oath ceremony notice and asked for my green card. I handed to her and she kept it and she kept everybody else's green card.   After waiting around 10min (as I was one of the first ones to enter the building, I had to wait for everybody else to find their seat) the ceremony started. The ceremony started with a videoclip with some awesome pictures of the first immigrants in America and frases that they said when they arrived. It was very emotional and beautiful. The first person on stage was a man who talked about registering to vote and how important it is to actually vote and so on. Right after that, three USCIS officers went on stage and we all sang the national anthem. After that they started to call every country (I think we had people from 42 different countries participating yesterday) and then we had to stand up and wait for all the countries (after your birth country) to be called.   Then, after that, we took the oath and become U.S citizens! People were crying and it was a very emotional moment! I will never forget that moment! Following the oath, we watched a videoclip where the President welcome us to America as new citizens!   After that, we watched a videoclip with the song America the Beautiful and right after the video clip, a lady that works ( as far as I understood) for the Dept. of State went on stage and said that we would be able to apply for a U.S passport right there after the ceremony if we would like to so, for those who wanted to apply for a U.S passport she asked us to stand up and she placed us under an oath. I would say that half of the 441 people that were there with me stood up and I was one of them. After that, the ceremony was over and they passed around distributing our citizenship certificates! I could finally say, I AN AMERICAN! After The Ceremony: Right when you leave the building there will be some people asking if you would like to register to vote and I totally recommend doing that! I was allowed to register to vote because I live in a different county so I actually have to register in my county, not Santa Clara county (where the ceremony took place) so if you live in a different county other than Santa Clara pay attention on that.   After that, even before meeting my wife that was already outside waiting for me (they first let the family/friends out while they distribute the certificates so most likely, your loved one will already be waiting for you outside the building) I went to another room where I applied for my U.S passport right there! Attention, don't forget to bring blank checks and a passport photo! As far as I understand, the passport people are not always there so it could be that you won't be able to apply for a passport right there but you can always go to a post office right after the ceremony (as long as you have all the documents necessary with you) and apply for one. I went straight to the room where the people collecting passport applications were because I knew that the line would be huge if I were to wait a couple of minutes. When I got to the passport room, they gave me an envelope where I put my citizenship certificate (I hold my certificate of citizenship for less than 5 min as I went straight to the other room so I could apply for a U.S passport but I took a picture of it just so I have it, haha!), a passport photo, a check and my passport application! The walk around stamping applications and making sure that you signed it before submitting it! Also, make sure that you sign your citizenship certificate! For the passport, they let you apply for a passport book, a passport card or both! I decided to apply for both passport book and the card as I was like "why not get the card as well", haha! There are also different type of fees, it all depends on how fast you would like to receive your U.S passport(s). I picked the fastest one available and paid around $250 to receive them within two and a half weeks! They also mentioned that I will probably receive 3 separate envelopes: One with my passport book, one with my passport card and another one with my citizenship certificate (they will ship it back to you after processing your passport application, of course). When I left the room after applying for my U.S passports (passport book and card) the line was pretty long (yikes) so I'm glad I went straight there and now I was free to take pictures outside with my U.S flag and celebrate!   And that was it guys! I am a PROUD AMERICAN CITIZEN! I'm so happy and excited! Today I became an American Citizen.
The oath ceremony in Los Angeles was so beautiful and excited. I waited a long time for it and I couldn’t hold my tear.
Did you have any update on your case ?

My new ID arrived in mail 10 days after I applied.
Less than 2 weeks after I applied for the passport, I got an email notifying me that it is done. It will be shipped Priority mail and it should arrive by the end of the week.

If you want to sign up for status notification of your passport application, you can do so here: https://passportstatus.state.gov

Now this feels weird. This means I am done done. No more paperwork, USCIS, anything. It is so weird and I hope all of our April files get to experience it soon. Its been 10 months so about time to get it wrapped up!

My husband finally became a US citizen yesterday!  The ceremony was held in Pasadena and there were over 800 new US citizens there.  The Pasadena Convention Center is a really beautiful building!  On the oath letter it stated that we should be there by 7:45am, but we arrived just before 7am to avoid traffic.  Passing by the building, there was already a line forming outside (so much for being early!).  There were separate lines for the applicants and the guests.  It was a relatively small group compared to the approximately 5000 applicants that they usually have at the Los Angeles Convention Center.  We probably spent almost an hour in line (it was drizzling and we forgot our umbrella!) until we are finally seated inside with the rest of the guests and another hour of waiting for everybody else to get in.  The ceremony promptly started at 9am.  It was basically the same program as everyone else described.  The judge who presided the oath taking spoke of his own story coming from an immigrant family which I thought was extremely touching.  He said that of all the accomplishments that he had had, becoming a judge and such, presiding this oath taking ceremony is something that his grandparents would be particularly proud of! 😁

It was a short ceremony, finished by around 9:30am.  The guests were instructed to go outside first, as they cannot distribute the naturalization certificates until all the guests are out.  So I, together with my kids, waited outside the building.  It was dark and gloomy, definitely not a typical California day and by this time, the drizzling that was happening earlier that day became pouring rain.  We went to a neighboring building to keep from getting soaked.  Nevertheless, my husband finally came out (maybe around 10am), with his naturalization certificate in hand and we couldn't be happier!  We are glad that our kids witnessed the ceremony and saw the happiness and the pride of everyone there on becoming American citizens.

We also applied for his US passport later in the day at a post office close to our house.  I was not able to find out if we could apply for a passport at the venue.

For all the other families who are still waiting, my family and I wish you all the best!  Thank you for all the help you've given us.

    Hey, thank you.

I just returned from the office. There is a mix of feelings. I still cant believe its almost over.

The interview was scheduled at 10:05am, My husband and I arrived there at 9:20am, there was a big line outside of the Los Angeles Federal building. We were just able to get in 9:55am. We checked in and awaited more than 2 hours to be called by the officer.
The officer seemed new and inexperienced. He started with the 10 history and government questions.
    - One war in 1990s
    - Who is the father of out country
    - Who is the Chief Justice
    - Who was the first President
    - How many members has US House of Representative.
    - What month we vote for President
Then after all correct answers, he started the reading and writing test.
He went over all the application confirming all the filled fields. Then yes or no questions. The supervisor got in the room to help the officer and requested me evidence of marriage that i gave the tax return last 3 years, phone bills with both names, SCE bill, Rent lease. He asked for pictures together and tickets proving travels together that I had.
In the end of interview he said I passed on the tests but the decision couldn't be made because of the pending I751. My husband was outside on awaiting room but he wasn't allowed to join me in the interview as it wasn't a combo interview.

Even i knew this could happen is kind of frustrating being waiting again a action from USCIS, but i am relieved the interview is done. Patience is the key.
God is with us. I will keep you all updated regarding the next movements on my process.

    Thank you.

hello! my husband had his interview this morning in los angeles.  when we got there at around 7:45am, a line was already forming outside of the building but it was not that bad.  his appointment was at 8:25am, he checked in at around 8:15am but did not get called until 9:25am. his interview went a little bit longer compared to others (around 45 minutes) only because his case is a little bit more complicated than most.  he had gone through removal proceedings a few years ago but they were terminated and we were allowed to proceed with his adjustment of status.   the interviewer had asked tough but fair questions, specifically pertaining to his "good moral character".  my husband was able to answer all his questions satisfactorily as he was approved! the interviewer had to ask for approval from a supervisor but eventually approved the application.  a few hours later we received an update on both of the uscis online accounts saying that his application has been approved and that he is in line for oath taking.  after what happened this morning, my husband and i were just so exhausted! from the uncertainty of having to deal with my husband's removal proceedings leading up to the approval of his citizenship application years later has definitely been an emotional roller coaster ride for us and our family.  we are just SO happy and grateful that we are almost done! if there is anything we learned through this is to always be truthful, be patient and be educated with the process. i really appreciate all of you and your insights and just knowing that we were not alone in waiting brought us some comfort and assurance. i will update my husband's information as soon as we get the oath date.  thank you all!

p.s. we parked across the street at the los angeles mall for $17.

It most likely depends on the ASC (application support center) where you are supposed to get your fingerprints done.  I walked into the Gardena ASC and everything went well.  I just brought my print out of the biometric appointment letter and my green card.  I showed both items to the receptionist, gave me a piece of paper to fill out, waited in line and got my picture and fingerprints taken.  The entire process probably took 15 minutes or so.  I have heard many good things about the Gardena ASC, how they are all nice and that they allow early walk ins.  Fotunately, it is true!  Best of luck to you!
