Due to the recent super typhoon, XOOM has given away a one-time coupon to send money to your loved ones in the Philippines for free. I just used it, it worked. However, you can only use it once. I know, I tried sending my sister some money using the same coupon and it said it's expired. But hey, $6 for free ain't bad, right?

I also updated my status at SSA. The lady there insisted that I get a new card. Got it yesterday in the mail and saved it along with my 4 other SS cards. Yep, I have 5.

I also have to maintain two passports. And unlike American passport, you cannot get the Russian one in the mail. Apply at the consulate in person, pick up at the consulate in person. Our consulate is 9 hours away.

I don't have to maintain my Philippine passport to enter the country, but will keep it renewed. Same thing here, we have to go to Chicago to renew it in person. Went there last winter, cost us $700 -- airfare, hotel and food -- for a $60 passport.

It really depends on your field office... In my case, was in line for interview on May 9, interview scheduled on May 10, interview date was June 21, but was in line for oath taking for 2 mos.

Anya, when I had my oath taking there was a woman there with 2 little kids (maybe 5 & 2) and the husband took care of them while she goes through the process. The little one cried and cried and threw fits coz he wanted to be with her. When we went to the courtroom for the oath, he was still crying and screaming and everyone was beginning to get annoyed. So, they had to ask the husband to take the kids outside. They didn't get to see her get sworn in. I think the husband could have seen the ceremony if they had another family member to watch the kids.

Yeah, I'm definitely gonna call them if I haven't heard anything by Monday. My husband already put October 12 on his work schedule as a day off The next Oath after that, and the last for this year, is November 9. I just want to be done in 2011!

Looking at deppeler's timeline, it took him 2 mos and 16 days from interview to oath date. That should give you an idea.

I'm at 42 days after the interview right now. I guess I'll wait till two weeks before the October Oath, which would be 9 days from now, and then call, if I have not gotten anything by then.

DARN IT! What the heck are they waiting for? Do what I did. Call them on your 45th day and I'm sure you'll hear from them the next day.

You're only "in line" for oath ceremony, not "has been scheduled" so no letter in the mail yet You're supposed to get another notification when they got the date for you.

Mae...See #3 above. It indicates that you don't need to have maintained your Philippines citizenship, and you don't have to have a valid Philippines passport.
