  1. Speaking of accents, my guy just informed me a few months ago that the geico gecko was English and not Australian :ot:

I really don't understand how people in the US mistake the English accent for Australian. The Gecko doesn't sound even a little bit Australian to me.

Saying that though, I get asked at work all the time "Aussie or South African?" People are surprised when I say I am English. I don't get it.

  2. Hi teach,

I moved from London in 2001 to the Isle Of Man, while I was there, my children's father moved from his house (In Edmonton in fact) and I had no idea where he had moved to. He hadn't seen my daughter for almost 9 years by the time I found out where he was. He had never paid any child support ever either.

I asked him for permission to take my daughter to the US (even though he hadn't seen her for 9 years, he still had parental responsibility and I needed his permission)and he said yes. He wrote a letter saying that he gave his consent and I took that to my interview with me. I had forgotten that it needed to be certified, and that's when he started to contest.

I went to court, had papers served to him, and a date ready for him to come to court. (I didn't have a Solicitor, I couldn't afford one but we did meet and have an interview with a really nice lady that asked my daughter lots of questions. I can't remember who she was. Some kind of Social worker maybe?) Anyway, on the day of the court date, her father didn't turn up but called the courthouse saying that he didn't contest any more. The judge asked me some questions about where we would be going and schools etc etc, asked my daughter a few questions and that was that, they gave me permission to take her.

From the time I went to my interview, to the time it took to get permission, took quite a long time though.

Just thought I would share my experience with you, it was a horrid time, and seemed to take what felt like forever. I hope you get yours sorted soon.

    Dawn.

  3. I never found it at the one near us! Hopefully its a recent thing and not something they just dont stock in ours.

My bad. It's Publix, not Walmart, sorry :(

I haven't seen any British food stuff in our Walmart.

  4. My test came back positive too, when I had a medical here in the USA. They gave me a chest X-ray which came back all clear. I found out later on at an Orientation/health and safety meeting, totally by accident when someone else asked about it, that because I had had a BCG vaccine when I was at school, any TB skin test I had in the future would always come back positive.

    Dawn.

  5. Our Publix here has just added a British food section to it's store.

    Heinz Baked Beans.

    Heinz Tomato Soup.

    Marmite.

    PG Tips.

    A selection of biscuits (Cookies).

A selection of Chocolate and sweets.

    A Yorkshire pudding mix.

There is too much stuff to list really but I was overjoyed to see it. It was a very VERY pleasant surprise.

Whole Foods is another store that has a British section but they, and Publix, have very high prices for their British stuff. (Was worth every penny to me!)
