  1. Thank you everybody and the forum founders! This would be much harder without all the free information!

There wasnt much notable about our interview experience except

    1) it was much busier and crazier time of life for me then I expected, moving ones 60+ y. o. parent to a totally different country is a lot of coordinating to do, I am still not done...

    2) interview was easy - officer asked my mom about me - where do I work, live and how I got my citizenship. I was sitting behind her, i donno if that helped.

    3) the LAX immigration office was easy:

submit envelope to officer in booth #1 marked "New Immigrants"-> sit and wait to be called (5 min) -> get fingerprinted on a paper form -> go inside and get luggage -> come back, wait 10 more min to be called - > officer returned the passport and 1 page instruction about "wait for GC in the mail"

some other immigrants in front of us didn't have correct photos ( must be matte passport size on white background) so they stayed behind, I donno what happened to them. I suggest keep copies of stuff and photos handy.

After reading about medical insurance troubles at interview - I bought a tourist medical policy here http://www.***removed***.com/newimmigrant.jsp but there were no questions

I donno, may be officer saw policy ID among papers mom gave him. She is not sure.

I would say my presence was most useful in the airport (and of course at traveling/packing), although they had bilingual employees - they were paged through speakers to different booth numbers,

so I am sure she would pass it eventually even if i wasnt there.

  2. My mom passed medical Tuesday and it confirmed OK, so I am sharing this info I found while preparing:

here's medical exam of aliens official CDC info:

    http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/panel.htm

    http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dq/pdf/ti-alien.pdf - PAGE 4

    1. Communicable Diseases of Public Health Significance

The previous law provided for a list of "dangerous contagious diseases" (active tuberculosis, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, infectious syphilis, chancroid, gonorrhea, granuloma inguinale, lymphogranuloma venereum, and Hansen's disease (leprosy)). Applicants with any of these diseases were excludable. The new law refers to these as "communicable diseases of public health significance."

    2. Mental Conditions

Under the old law, aliens who were mentally retarded, insane, had had one or more attacks of insanity, were afflicted with psychopathic personality, sexual deviation, or mental defect, or who were narcotic drug addicts or chronic alcoholics, were ineligible for visas and were excluded from admission into the United States. As amended, the Immigration and Nationality Act no longer lists specific physical or mental conditions that automatically exclude an alien but instead requires a determination of whether an alien has a physical or mental disorder and associated behavior that has posed or is likely to pose a threat to the property, safety, or welfare of the alien or others.

    3. Criminal Behavior

Aliens convicted of certain criminal acts are excludable under other sections of the Immigration and Nationality Act, regardless of their health status. A history of criminal behavior associated with a physical or mental condition that has posed a threat to the property, welfare, or safety of the alien or others, even without a conviction, may be used by the panel physician to determine whether an alien has an excludable condition.

    4. Drug Abuse or Addiction

The amendments to the Act replace the previous exclusion of "narcotic drug addicts" with a broader category: "drug abuser or addict." The broader category includes aliens who are engaged in the nonmedical use of any substance named in section 202 of the Controlled Substances Act, as amended (21 U.S.C. 812) (appendix A).

    5. Alcohol Abuse or Dependence (Alcoholism)

The Act as amended does not refer explicitly to alcoholics or alcoholism. Evaluation for alcohol abuse or dependence is included in the evaluation for mental and physical disorders with associated harmful behavior.

    6. Exclusion on Public Charge Grounds

As under the previous law, in addition to the examination for specific excludable medical conditions, aliens will be examined for other physical or mental abnormalities, disorders, diseases, or disabilities that would be likely to render the alien unable to care for himself or herself or to attend school or work, or that might require extensive medical care or institutionalization. Thus, certain conditions (e.g., mental retardation) that are no longer explicitly listed as excludable conditions may result in exclusion under this section if the consular officer determines that family or other resources to care for the person do not exist.

  3. Thank you everybody :D and Good Luck! I am taking a brake from my daily forum addiction till December, but I will be checking this and other parents threads every so often (haha, I guess that means - only twice a day instead of 10  ).

I am thinking to write an update for the wiki, if anybody wants to collaborate or review my draft - let me know. Or somebody please write it, cuz I am not sure if I have the time and the grammar.

  4. Case Complete on October 23rd Guys. I will keep you updated when I received the interview date. I should know by Friday since the consulate that will handle my mother's case schedules interviews on a weekly basis.

    Congratulations, nocturnalbeat!!!

is your consulate in the appointment post list? http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3734.html

I am trying to figure out what are the current scheduling procedures

  5. In case anyone know about it,

I heard NVC AVS that they received I864 on Oct 22nd? does that mean it is entered in NVC system? or just they received it.?

    Thanks.

i also think it means it was entered in the system, not approved. I read that when i864 gets actually approved - NVC issued a false RFE for ds230 or 3032 (even if it's been sent to them or even delivered)

Dear All whos case was completed

there have been 2 cases of case sent to embassy (in Manila and Senegal) on the day of case complete, confirmed by NVC operator. Both embassied belong to appointed list, which is not supposed to be sent untill NVC scheduled an interview date.

Operator said Inteviews for November are done and I should call after Nov 15, because scheduling is done on 2nd week of month, but if you look at statistics - it happens at any part of month http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/k1list...ll&dfile=No

In order to establish if it's a new routine or just a random glitch, plz let us know if your case was sent by NVC before the interview was appointed

  6. Still waiting for the INTERVIEW DATE --------- Congrats for those already had a CASE COMPLETE ---

Congrats on Case complete! How did you find out that your case was sent to consulate? from the operator?

Is in something new NVC does? it's second time I see a case sent to embassy on the day of case complete without an interview date given before that?

As a CR1/IR the file is not forwarded to the embassy UNTIL an interview is assigned... K3 is sent to the embassy as are expedite requests... Must be an error on the timeline...

This is what it said to my AVR:

Nvc has completed the processing and has forwarded it in manila on october 23,2009. Please contact embassy or consulate for further questions.

I talked the OPERATOR also.. she said. just wait for the interview date..

BOTH Senegal and Manila are in the APPOINTMENT POST LIST, so NVC is theoretically not supposed to send it before making interview appointment right?

2kingdomrunners, sorry I asked you in PM  , I just wasn't sure how often you come here.

  7. the other person is 2kingdomrunners http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showuser=65057

Return Completed IV Package: 10-10-09 (finally after waiting for DHL to ship which they were very late)

    Sign in failed: 10-22-09

Case Completed at NVC : 10-23-09

    NVC Left : 10-23-09

the operator told me when i called for my confirmation

so it's worth calling a day after the case complete to see if operator says case was sent to embassy, I am going to call Monday

  9. Thank you guys! :star:

@ Feliz: Congratulations!!!! still waiting here for case complete. were you notified via email for the I-864 & DS230 complete review?

Thanks :-) No emails about case complete yet. first my payment website log in failed at 10 pm on Oct 20,

then i called 4 times yesterday - Oct 21 - at 9 am, 3 pm, 6 pm - same old message, and at 10 pm - it was "Case complete Oct 21".

I guess they email only when interview is scheduled, which happens (according to ptrober's experience) about 4 business days after case complete.

also my experience confirms that both website and AVR update around 10 pm, as to e-mails they tend to come around 9 am- 3 pm

  10. I think they JUST got our cases today (I tracked on DHL and NVC said they sent it out on Monday)... So I am giving them a day to review it and sending them an e-mail Thursday to see... If you call NVC they will tell you if your case has gone out to Naples yet... I will keep ya posted and let me know if you have any luck too!!!

I tried checking DHL just to see how it works and it says

Unable to track shipments at this time.

System Unable to Process Request. An unexpected error has occurred with shipment tracking. Please try to track your shipments at a later time.

    i used EXP 19 OCT 2009A as a ref#

    and 18-19 as a range, i also tried 16th, 20 and 21 - same answer

is it website glitch or typo?

here is a source quote from LingChe shortcuts:

    http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/...res_delivery.29

    * . NVC sets an appointment date for you and sends out your package to the US Embassy.

If you're really #######, paranoid, or just a busybody, you can track the package status. You can use the date after your interview was assigned, as the tracking reference date, and then do a search on DHL. The format to use is "EXP 07 OCT 2008A" don't forget the spaces...and to set the date range on the tracking page. The website for tracking is. http://track.dhl-usa.com/TrackByRef.asp?nav=TrackByRef The package may not go out on the next day, but the reference code will still be for that date. When your package is able to be tracked, it will make more sense. You'll see a list of packages going to different embassies. You'll know which one is yours.
