Had my oath ceremony this morning at the US District Court on Pearl St in New York. It was a good experience. I arrived at about 9:55am (for a 10am time on the oath letter) and there were about 20 people in line for security. Phones and watches were exchanged for tokens and put in lockers, no cameras or smartphones allowed inside the courthouse, but people were taking photos outside the courthouse afterwards. Joined a long line of people waiting to relinquish their green cards and check their certificates of citizenship before the ceremony began. There were probably about 100 people taking the oath, and a lot of friends and family present. The ceremony itself happened quickly, and the oath was first. The microphone wasn't on for the pledge so only people at the front of the room heard that part. There was no singing of the national anthem, and no video of Donald Trump, about which nobody seemed concerned. The judge then gave a rather excellently written and well delivered speech about the significance of the occasion, and how as new Americans we have the same rights as everyone else here, how immigrants are America's backbone, America is still a land of opportunity today, and so on. Then names were called for us to go up to the front individually to collect our certificates. The staff were cordial and polite, and the whole thing was quite pleasant, despite a lot of standing in line and waiting. I was out of the building, certificate in hand, at 12pm.

I filed in May 2017 and my office is Queens. Unfortunately there wasn't an online option back then (or at least I wasn't aware of it) so I have been in line for interview since June 8th... They say this field office takes too long and as of today according to the uscis website, they are still processing October '16 applications. Does anyone have any experience with paper filing in Queens? I wonder if I can withdraw my application and reapply online since the online applications seem to go by way faster.

I don't think I'd recommend reapplying:

* If you withdraw your application, they won't refund your original filing fees (they only do this if USCIS made an error), so you'll end up paying twice.

* Online cases do seem to be moving faster, but it's already been 7 months since you applied, and I don't think they move that much faster.

* The USCIS has presumably already done some work on your application (e.g. initiated background checks etc.) and they might not like having their time wasted if they end up having to do those things all over again.

My case was also showed approved status, then another event with you attended your interview. I don't think it cause an issue, but these people are lazy to look into the cases to schedule or it depend on the officer who did.

Yes! I forgot you are on the same day - see you on Friday morning. I'm easy to find, I'm a dead ringer for Frankie Muniz. Interesting that's a common thing then, you're right, must not have been the cause. She said every officer has their own process and timeline in terms of how efficient they are in moving the cases forward, so maybe I was just a little unlucky with my interviewing officer, but then super lucky today.

It’s good news! My oath is now this Friday 1/12.

It was hard to get an InfoPass, and in the end checking daily at midnight was the only way I nabbed one, but it was well worth it. I waited only a little over an hour. The officer who looked at my case was very helpful. At first I thought all was lost because she said oath ceremonies in NY are on a 3-6 month wait, and I just would have to wait, but she said she would speak to a supervisor as soon as she got a chance - and she did! Less than an hour after I left the building, I got a call from an unknown number. I didn’t pick up because I screen my calls, but she left a voicemail saying she’d found an oath and would call again in 10 mins to check the date was good. She did, I picked up - and now just an hour later, I have the physical oath letter in my hand and am elated to be taking my oath on Friday morning at Pearl St.

It seems what happened in my case was either my file got delayed in transfer, or was incorrectly marked as “decision pending” in the computer system. I suspected something was up because immediately after my case went into “approved” status on the site, it went back to “you attended your interview.” Apparently it really was approved, but maybe got stuck somewhere in processing.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease!

Congrats on the Christmas gift, thanks for the update. I have no updates, but it gives me hope that other Nov 1 interviewees are seeing movement now. I've been trying to schedule an Infopass for the last couple of weeks but there are never any appointments available. My plan is to wait until we're clear of the holidays, maybe Jan 7th or so, then call an L2 officer.

I'm in the same boat - interviewed and approved on November 1st and still waiting for the oath letter, with no changes in status online. The IO in my case told me it would take 8 weeks but he wasn't clear whether that meant I would get the letter in 8 weeks, or that the oath would be in 8 weeks. Given that it's almost the middle of December, I'm guessing it will not be until next year now. Sigh.

Thanks for the information. I didn't realize that was an option! I wonder whether I can make an appointment to go back and wait to get one - not knowing the date is interfering with my travel plans.

Quick question: At the Federal Plaza interview, can you bring cell phones into at least the waiting room? I will accompany my husband tomorrow for his interview and am wondering if we should leave our phones at home or if I can hold them in the waiting room while he interviews. Thanks!

Yes, you can bring cell phones and even laptops into the waiting room, and you are permitted to use them, with some restrictions (vibrate mode, keep calls quiet, don't use them in the actual interview). I took my cell phone into the interview and the interviewer had me just put it on the chair with my coat and papers.

Just found this thread, very useful! I had my interview on 11/1 and was approved in the NY field office, and it looks like you already have me in the table here. It's been 16 days and I haven't heard anything about the oath, and was getting worried, but from reading this thread it seems that is normal and it could take months to get it scheduled. Oh well, patience is a virtue as they say (and who's in a rush to see Trump's welcome video anyway).

No updates from me - my app was approved on 11/1/2017 and I'm still waiting for the oath ceremony to be scheduled. The officer told me it could take 8 weeks... they must be heavily booked for oaths in New York, or short a judge or something.

Just got back from my interview in the New York field office, everything went smoothly and my application was approved. The officer was very friendly and respectful, and the process was a pleasant one. I got some electronic case updates within an hour and ELIS now shows "USCIS has scheduled your oath ceremony and will mail you the appointment notice." It seems same-day oath ceremonies are never available in New York. Glad to be through the hardest bit!

The only interesting thing to report is that the interview took a little longer than expected because they are rolling out new software for the officers to use and I was the first person to be put through it - maybe allow more time if your interview is in the next week or two.

I'm new here but have been following this thread for a few weeks - it's so useful to see the dates and share information here, especially because the changes in status on the USCIS website can be confusing sometimes, and I want to give back, so I'm sharing my timeline so far.

I'm in New York, NY, and applied online. I've had my green card since 2008 and am applying through residence. Everything has gone smoothly so far, no RFEs, and I just got my interview letter today. I've seen some confusing status updates on the website, and never got the "in line for interview" status.

The main takeaway for anyone waiting is that if your case goes into the "We have scheduled your interview" status, you might not find out the date for as long as three more weeks, but in my case at least, it seems like it really did mean that the interview had been scheduled, and I did eventually receive an interview letter. It's also possible that like me, you will never see the "in line for interview" status.

7/4/2017: Application sent.

7/5/2017: NOA.

7/7/2017: Fingerprint appointment scheduled (online status change).

7/11/2017: Fingerprint letter received. Got account update email. PDF was uploaded.

7/24/2017: Fingerprint appointment. Same day, "We reviewed your biometrics" status change online.

9/9/2017: Received case update text message. Checked online and status had gone straight to "We have scheduled your interview." on both the old and the new USCIS case status dashboards. No interview date or letter yet though. The new dashboard shows an interview date estimate of April 2018.

9/21/2017: (Roughly). Checked online and the new USCIS case status dashboard now had gone back to "We reviewed your biometrics." but still with an interview date estimate of April 2018. Old dashboard still shows "We have scheduled your interview." At this point I assumed the interview status change was a mistake, or that I was really just "in line for interview", and that I'd be waiting until April.

9/27/2017: Received "Your case is now updated" text message and "Case Update Notification" email in the afternoon. Checked online throughout the evening and nothing had changed on either the old or new USCIS case status dashboards. The old one shows "We have scheduled your interview." The new one still shows "We have reviewed your biometrics."

9/28/2017: Received "We updated your case and it needs your attention" email in the morning, around 6am. Checked online, status on the new dashboard has now changed to "We scheduled your interview" again, but with no actual interview date. Kept checking back every hour. Then suddenly at 3pm, the interview letter had been uploaded!

My interview is going to be on 11/1/2017.
