  1. Bridget, you aren't the only one who has a long AP. They are not torturing you. You are not on a black list.

This is part of the process. You saw people go through it before you and there will be people to go through it after you.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but this waiting isn't just about *you*. It's a process. There have been people waiting close to a year and longer. There are some people who barely have 2 weeks wait.

You will get your visa when you get it and not any sooner *and* not any later.

I know that waiting sucks and I know that waiting is hard. I have had a longer wait than you and I haven't even filed yet!

Trust me, I know about waiting.

Allah has things planned and if you don't think He's the best of planners then maybe you have some serious thinking to do.

Whatever the reason for this wait is, Allah knows best, not me, not you, not anyone else.

I wish you the best with this process and your continued waiting, however long it is, but may it be short for both your sakes.

  2. Since there must be only a small percentage of applicants going through Cairo that are on this site, I'm curious what the actual statistics are for Cairo. I'm guessing most people probably do get their visas pretty quickly.

As to the internet connection, ours is fine now, has been for a few days with no problems. And hubby just got his own dsl instead of having to share, so it's even better alhamdulillah.

Bridget, aren't all visas except CR1 non-immigrant visas?

  3. As to where to raise kids, I would actually prefer to raise them in Egypt. From an Islamic standpoint, I feel there are far to many things here that I'd rather my child not be exposed to until they were older. And even if everyone in Egypt isn't practicing Islam in the best way, it's still alot more than here in the U.S.

As to censorship, well.... hmmmmm

  4. Sara, the latest pic is cute. Your daughter is sooo adorable! I think everyone here has fallen in love with her. :luv:

Sorry to hear about your job, but as others have said, perhaps it's a great opportunity and something better is coming along.

Best wishes to you and your family!

  5. TY. So far Im handling it okay, but I think that's because Im not at the epicenter. Hubby didnt want me to drive by myself for an hour to go see family today. And I cant really blame him. After talking with my cousin and aunt, its just as well Im not there around everyone right now. Aunt is recovering from the flu and strep throat and cousin has a head cold. I do plan on attending the funeral on Saturday, since my parents are coming into town and I can go with them.

Last night I was wondering about my friend's husband's funeral and when it might be (he tested postitive for cocaine at the hospital, so I imagine they'll be doing an autopsy and delay burial awhile). And now Ive got another funeral in my lap. When it rains it pours. Im wondering if I should try to attend both. I dont do too well around upset people these days, and Im not much support for anyone. But I dont want to be rude.

Seeing as how you're due to have a little one in a *very* short time, I would think anyone would understand if you didn't go to a funeral at the moment.

It wouldn't do to accidentally go into labor during a funeral!!

Anyways, sorry for all of your recent losses.

    *hugs*

Cannabis bigger cancer risk than cigarettes: study

    Tue Jan 29, 2008 4:45am EST

HONG KONG (Reuters) - Smoking a joint is equivalent to 20 cigarettes in terms of lung cancer risk, scientists in New Zealand have found, as they warned of an "epidemic" of lung cancers linked to cannabis.

Studies in the past have demonstrated that cannabis can cause cancer, but few have established a strong link between cannabis use and the actual incidence of lung cancer.

In an article published in the European Respiratory Journal, the scientists said cannabis could be expected to harm the airways more than tobacco as its smoke contained twice the level of carcinogens, such as polyaromatic hydrocarbons, compared with tobacco cigarettes.

The method of smoking also increases the risk, since joints are typically smoked without a proper filter and almost to the very tip, which increases the amount of smoke inhaled. The cannabis smoker inhales more deeply and for longer, facilitating the deposition of carcinogens in the airways.

"Cannabis smokers end up with five times more carbon monoxide in their bloodstream (than tobacco smokers)," team leader Richard Beasley, at the Medical Research Institute of New Zealand, said in a telephone interview.

"There are higher concentrations of carcinogens in cannabis smoke ... what is intriguing to us is there is so little work done on cannabis when there is so much done on tobacco."

The researchers interviewed 79 lung cancer patients and sought to identify the main risk factors for the disease, such as smoking, family history and occupation. The patients were questioned about alcohol and cannabis consumption.

In this high-exposure group, lung cancer risk rose by 5.7 times for patients who smoked more than a joint a day for 10 years, or two joints a day for 5 years, after adjusting for other variables, including cigarette smoking.

"While our study covers a relatively small group, it shows clearly that long-term cannabis smoking increases lung cancer risk," wrote Beaseley.

"Cannabis use could already be responsible for one in 20 lung cancers diagnosed in New Zealand," he added.

"In the near future we may see an 'epidemic' of lung cancers connected with this new carcinogen. And the future risk probably applies to many other countries, where increasing use of cannabis among young adults and adolescents is becoming a major public health problem."
