  1. Well the answer seems to be no. Of course we have our own savings, yet we also receive and spend money in our own ways. I find it odd how it wouldn't at least pinpoint the difference as individuals anyways. At the end of the day, it is a commitment of understanding what is what and agreeing/accepting the decisions in a rational way. I find it surprising how other folks just accept it blindly. That's my opinion!

  2. I will be working on our taxes in the next couple of weeks: this will be the second year filling a joint tax with my wife (already has GC based on the k1 visa), but in 2018 she had no job/income since she didn’t have a work permit until 2019.
She had an income through jobs for the majority of 2019, but I've found out that when you file the joint taxes the IRS won’t split or let me know how much money is owed back to each one of us based on each of our incomes/student loan payments/health insurances/etc. In other words, it will just give a lump sum.

Is there a way to find out what portion of the return is owed to who?

We’ll probably put it on our joint savings but would very helpful to get that information before hand since our incomes and job types are very different.

    thanks!!

  3. Hello all,

My wife (immigrant) and I just moved addresses within Brooklyn and we're still waiting to receive the interview notification (getting close to a year now).

She has already received AP + EAD.

We're on the online form to change the address, and it asks for her status ("In the US as") with options Permanent resident, Other, Visitor, Student

Does anyone know what I should choose here and, if other, what should it put there?

  4. Hello there,

I'm wondering if @ariz2016 had any issues regarding the job change.

My wife (beneficiary) and I are still waiting to receive the letter with the interview date for the AOS - we are aware that this will only happen months from now, even though that update showed up on the USCIS case status check in November.

I have switched jobs to a new company this month, and I am wondering if I need to notify USCIS about this change while we are in this waiting period.

Other relevant info: wife has received EAD-SSN combo + AP already.

    Thanks for your help!

    Victor

  5. Hey there,

My wife arrived with the K1 visa on august 21st to the US, 2 days later we opened a bank account for her and created a joint account for the both of us WITHOUT the need of a social security - for one of the biggest banking institutions out there of which I already had an account for 7+ years. Thus for the K1 process we did not have these statements with us, I only submitted my own statements for the i-134 documentation, and everything went fine!

Last friday we've mailed the AOS paperwork and on that one we've included the bank statements for the joint accounts.

I hope this gives you some extra info and insight for your process. Good luck!

  6. Thank you everyone for the quick responses! We got our marriage license last Thursday at the Brooklyn City Clerk office, and will go through the ceremony tomorrow at the same office.

@Timefliesby_not and @Going through how long did the ceremony itself last, apart from the pre-waiting time?

And must all guests be with us during the entire waiting time, if there is one?

Just wondering if it would be smart for us, the marrying couple, to arrive at the City Clerk 30-60 min before the guests in case there is a waiting time.

    Thank you!

  7. Hello all,

My fiance is arriving tomorrow (YAY!) and we are aiming on doing the civil marriage procedure ASAP (online application to license -> marriage license -> at least 24 hours -> civil marriage ceremony at City Clerk's Office).

It is stated that we must have at least 2 witnesses during the ceremony.

Our question is: how many witnesses can we have in there?

I have been inviting many of close and special friends, yet I am not sure what is physically allowed and can't find this information anywhere.

If anyone knows the answer to this, please let me know!

PS If you have been through the civil marriage ceremony at City Clerk's office, please feel free to share helpful tips we might need/may not have considered!

    Thanks!

  8. Somos de Curitiba, so it's not a simple task to just go to Rio 2 weeks after the interview to pick the paperwork...

I have sent an email last week and told the fiancee to call and check. Might as well.

@ChristineA one of the reasons that we weren't that happy about going with mailing the passport. Would you happen to know if they mail it via Correios, or would it be a more premium company (Fedex/other)? A friend of mine told me that she wouldn't imagine the US and consulate to risk getting the passport lost and potentially be sued. Just a thought.

Well, we're hoping we can change it, as we have family members that will be in the city that we could authorize the pick up.

If I get any answer from CASV, I'll let you know FYI.

Thank you for the help anyways!

  9. Hello all,

My fiancée, the beneficiary, was just approved the visa yesterday after the interview at the Consulate (hooray!!).
Prior to scheduling the interview about a month ago, we had requested to have the visa documents mailed to her home address once it is ready in approximately 10 business days.
However, I have just read on your website that we could've had an authorized third party (someone else) pick up the documents at the Applicant Service Center.

Any knows if it is possible to switch the retrieval method from delivery service to the third party pick-up instead while they are processing the visa documents?

    Thanks!!

    Hey guys!

We're currently in the process of waiting for our NOA2 (which hopefully should be approved within the next couple months!)

I just wondered if anyone had any experience with renewing passports in this period, and if this has any adverse effect on the process?

To clarify, it will be the beneficiary who is renewing their passport in this instance.

While it does have a few years left on it, I thought it best to renew it now so it has a fresh 10-year validity so I don't have to worry about having to renew it when (hopefully) having moved to be with my fiancé in the US. Will this be a problem? The only bit of evidence that we supplied USCIS with which contained the passport number was a copy of the  I-94, a copy of a U.S entry visa, and a copy of the biographical page of the beneficiary passport. Other than that, we did not list the passport number on the actual application form. My worry is that they might see it, do their background searches, and see its invalid as I will have acquired a new one. Could this cause us issues? Also, if I do renew my passport, would I have to let them know I have a new passport as the beneficiary, or do I just continue the process?

    Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

    Hey S and J,

My fiancée (the beneficiary) also had to renew her passport and there was no problems at all. She is Brazilian living in Brazil. She renewed it while we were waiting for the NVC and consulate confirmation that they had received the paperwork post-NOA2. Fastforward to yesterday and she got her visa approved after the interview!

I hope this helps a bit.

  11. Hello everyone,

My fiance/beneficiary will be starting the interview process tomorrow -medical exams, waiting for the results to be ready, consulate interview. For those that managed to do interview already (my i129f noa1 was 08/08/17), did you needed the original document of birth certificate of the applicant (American side of the couple, aka myself) along with all other documents/proof/etc??

  12. I have a tricky question for us citizens that are in the process of bringing their loved ones (finally!) over here with the K1 visa.

We are still waiting for the NOA2 like A LOT of us in this website (it has been exactly 4 months now and no sign of anything) and we are expecting that my fiancee will be coming to the US with the visa in hands around April 2018.

However, nothing is guaranteed, especially with these waits we are having.

The issue i'm writing here is the following: I need renew/update my health insurance status in the next 10 days for the year of 2018.

And events such as getting married affects health insurance directly.

Should I state to the health insurance provider that I will be getting married even though nothing is confirmed in the sense of her physically being in the country (USCIS could finish everything up by January 2018 as well as January 2019), or should I not mention this 'family size change' as in fact it hasn't happened yet and there is truly no expected date for it?

I'm very uncertain how to deal with this, and any help will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Victor

I had left mine blank, but I also included a copy of my fiance's I-94 history from this >https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home< website. Everything had checked out fine and was approved.

Kayla and Andrew, thank you for this! I had the same doubt and had no idea how to proceed.

I also didn't know what the I-94 was and I am so glad that this was very easy to get from the website. I will be attaching both the pages with the most recent I-94 and travel history.

I'm sending everything in on Tuesday so wish me luck!!
