  1. No I NEVER received a 70 day letter. I just made an infopass appt. after 90 days of nothing. I filed the EAD online and then got a letter to come in and do the BIO's (again). I am SICK of waiting. I wish I would have filed my EAD at the time of the AOS ... I could REALLY use a 2nd income!!

They did not give me any time frame when I went back in ... they said we are still in security clearence! Let me know what they tell you!!

I've never heard of filing your EAD online..... how did you pay the fees? What was the timeframe from filing online to getting your letter to go in for your Bio's again? Did they give you any idea on how long to get your EAD?

PS....... Just an idea here..... it would be helpful to everyone

on here if you do your timeline after your signature.

  2. From my own experiences with US banking, Canada seems to be a few steps ahead technologically,

    Can say that again!

I don't think anyone has mentioned these crazy debit/check cards or debit/Visa cards......whatever they call them here. When I was in Canada you had a debit card and then you had seperate credit cards. Not here......... (well there are seperate credit cards but that's another story) You can use your Debit/Visa card like a visa..... you can use it to book a flight online or a hotel room, whatever you like. When u buy groceries or anything else for that matter it can go through like a Visa card and you have to sign like for credit.... but it's not really credit cause it's coming out of your account right away. That's the part that really baffles me...... a credit card to me is buy now.....get a bill in the mail , then pay, not the amount coming out of my acct the next day. Some places you can put in your pin #, some places put it through as if it is Visa but you don't have to sign the slip.... it's confusing. Last week I had to get money orders from my bank here and I handed the teller my debit card.... he just kind of looked at me funny....... I had to write out a check for the amount to the bank..... I was thinking he would just swipe my card like they did in Canada........nope! Then the part that really gets me is at some businesses if it goes through as a Visa they always always ask for ID here....... I have no American ID at all. In Oklahoma I can't get a driver's license till I have my Green Card and they wouldn't give me a SSN yet either. It really picks my butt they want ID for a stupid debit card!

Well that's my rant for today folks!

  3. We went through DORA in Dallas. It's very fast. We also applied for the EAD ( just incase Mark got stuck in name check delays) and the GC came through faster than the EAD.....

Mark's GC was issued around day 75 or so.....

    Tmma,

How did you applied at the same day for EAD? For what I understood, you do not applied for the EAD until you have your green card on hand with the DORA program. Please clarify me, we are not married yet and we are going to move to Tulsa in a couple of weeks.

    Thanks.

With the DORA program they told me you don't apply for your EAD or AP because technically you are to get your Green Card in 90 days or less. With your GC you can work and travel and if you were to apply for your EAD and AP at the same time you file your AOS it would be a waste of money as it would take about the same timeframe to have those approved. With DORA.... if by day 70 they know they won't be able to get your GC to you within the 90 days they then send you a letter and tell you to file your EAD and AP if you wish. Glad to see another VJ'er in Tulsa!

  4. Okay, who is left from the March filers? I'm planning on sticking around until all are approved. (F)

I'm still here....... and people told me they'd kill to be in my shoes to be able to go through the DORA program..... ya right! Got my "70 day" letter on Day 91 telling me they wouldn't be getting my GC to me within the 90 day timeframe.... then they tell me if I like I can file my EAD and AP by mail to the Chicago lockbox...... and wait another 90 days perhaps....... if they would let you file for your EAD and AP in the beginning I could have had them by now! Can you tell I'm not a happy camper

  5. Is there some form I have to fill out that details every single little thing I am bringing with me? Or is it enough to label all my boxes according to what is in each and then have a corresponding list to show them? Do they actually go through everything or just have a dog sniff it all?

Just not sure what's involved with the moving process. Please help if you've already been through this. Thank you.

Yes there are US Customs forms but it all depends how you are shipping the stuff. ie taking it with you or sending in by shippers.

Our shippers sent us the customs forms which we filled out and then when they pack they produced a shipping list.

I didn't fill it out in great detail but listed in general terms what was being imported.

    Oh ok. Thanks.

So if I'm just bringing everything myself it may be enough to just label the boxes and have a corresponding sheet to hand the officer?

I'm not sure about when you are crossing yourself with your belongings if there are any forms to complete but I think doing packing lists would probably be a good idea. I moved with ABF and did packing lists...... I didn't mention every absolute item in each box but a general list.... I clearly marked each box with a number in black marker and made the list to correspond to each box #. I phoned ahead to customs at the border crossing of Sweetgrass, Montana where my stuff would be going through coming from Alberta and they told me they x-ray the whole load......truck drives through and if they have any suspicions they will make the driver unload the whole truck and can go through any of the boxes if they feel like it. I could tell when my stuff got here that nothing had been touched at all. I think there are plenty of others here on VJ that have driven through and had no problems..... hopefully a few of them will post. Good Luck!

  6. It boggles my mind just how stupid some people can be! I get so ticked off everytime I say I'm from Canada the first thing people always say is "oh it's so cold there" as if Canada is just one big expanse of frozen tundra. In this day and age I find it hard to understand why so many Americans are still so ignorant about their neigbors to the north!

  7. Hi all....... see my timeline below, not much happening with my case. I have an infopass appt. in Oklahoma City this Friday, June 29th. Probably will be a waste of time going there but I don't know what else to do..... it's just so frustrating. Right now I'm not so worried about the Green Card.... I'm just ticked about being told to mail in my applications for EAD and AP after waiting for 3 months already. I want to be able to work and travel before I go crazy sitting here

  8. yup Im waiting for them to call me back :) I left the message

How long did it take you to received any answer or money?

I tried to check my status online but it asks for the province and neither the province or the state worked. Any idea?

You have to put ON for the province for Ontario......no matter what province you are from...it's something to do with the out of country EI office being in Ontario.

I had a problem also with the address thing..... I phoned them and they corrected it. Also, I sent them a copy of my marriage certificate when I sent my ROE and all my paperwork and put a note on it asking them to put everything in my married name. Well a few weeks went by and everything was still in my maiden name so I called them again, told the lady I had sent a copy of my marriage cert and asked if my name could be changed. She changed it right then and there while we were on the phone. I find it makes it easier when I take my checks to the bank too having them in my married name.

  9. I filed my AOS on Feb 14, 2007 ... haven't heard anything. I went in on our 90 days to check the status and file for our EAD. My husband has his BIO's for the EAD tomorrow. I am hoping that he will be able to work by August, prefer to have the greencard but won't count on anything (specially dealing w/INS)

Did you get the "70 day letter"? So if I have this right you filed for EAD at the office in Oklahoma City and not through the mail to the Chicago box #. I was under the understanding that when you come back in to file for EAD and AP after all ready having waited 90 days that they approve it the same day and you would get your cards in about a week to 10 days. Obviously if you are just going in tomorrow for your Biometrics appt they didn't approve it right away. It really ticks me off when they tell you in the beginning not to file for EAD and AP with the DORA program..... wait for 3 months then have to wait for another 3 months....maybe longer. I could have had my EAD and AP by now.....I am not handling this well sitting around not being able to do anything.....it's like you have no identity. I have an infopass appt for next Friday, June 29th...... I am starting to think it might just be a waste of time driving to Oklahoma City for it.....they probably won't do anything anyway. How were they when you went back in on your 90 days? Did they give you any time frame? This whole things sucks big time!

  10. Does anyone know the phone number for the FBI office? I called their main contact number as it was listed on the FBI website and they told me FBI does not do name checks anymore and that I should contact INS.

Please help!!! I, too applied on March 23rd and have not received anything from INS since.

    thank you,

    marina

The FBI doesn't do name checks anymore........ what the hecks going on.......keep us posted on this!

  11. Hi Susan,

I understand you perfectly, because I am in your same situation since I entered the US.

It's incredible that you receive your 70 days letter in day 91...this is so slow...but it helps me, because

now I know that still I can receive mine, and I am in day 83!!!!!

I read that you say about the senator and everything, but I dont think that u have to wait 3 more months for the EAD.

According with what I read they should give an appointment and the you will fingerprinted, and in one week you will have your EAD.

I think that we are in the exactly same case.

Normally with the DORA from what I've read is in the 70 day letter they give you an appt to go to the office to file but they just told me to mail it in to the Chicago lockbox like everyone else does. I amde an infopass appt for June 29th to find out how long this will take. I hoping maybe there is someone out there that will respond that has been in the same situation. Maybe you will be the lucky one and your Green Card will just show up in the mail one day soon!

  12. Chretien's Retirement Dinner

At a dinner thrown in her husband's honour, a man turned to Madame Chrétien and said, "Your husband has been such a prominent public figure with such a busy schedule. How quiet retirement will seem in comparison. What are you most looking forward to in these retirement years?"

"A #######," replied Madame Aline Chrétien. A hush fell over the table. Everyone heard her answer yet no one knew what to say next.

Jean leaned over to his wife and said, "Aline, in Hinglish dey pronounce dat word, "Appiness".

Thanks for the chuckle....... I needed it today!

  13. Is there anyone out there going through DORA that was also told to apply for EAP and AP by mail? I was under the understanding they would give you these immediately once you apply if they can't get your Green Card to you within the 90 day timeframe. Is this correct..... anyone else apply by mail?

This hasn't been a good day.........below is what I posted earlier here on VJ.

Well yesterday June 19th was Day 90 for my AOS application through DORA in Oklahoma City and I haven't heard a word, no "70 day letter", no touches, nothing since Day 40. So without telling me, my hubby yesterday called the Senator's office to see if they could do anything. He wasn't going to tell me about it but he had to leave a message and a lady called him back today here at home needing my A # and my reciept # so he had to come clean......bless his heart!

The big thing for me is I want to get my AED and AP if they aren't going to get my GC to me soon. She said they used to get replies back within a week and now sometimes they don't hear anything either for a month. I'm also going to make an infopass appt. for the 1st week in July, can't get there any sooner so I'll just have to wait. If I should get my GC before then I can cancel the appt. Let's see if the Senator's office gets us anywhere.

    Susan in Tulsa

Ten minutes after I posted my message above I went and checked my mail and guess what I got....... the "70 day letter".......grrrrrrrrr. So I guess the call to the Senator's office won't be of much use now.......and to top if off, they told me to mail in my application for my AED and AP to the Chicago lockbox, not to go back to the office in Oklahoma City to file it. So now I'm wondering.... am I going to have to wait another 2 to 3 months to get my AED and AP when I have already waited over 90 days. I thought when it was through the DORA program once they sent you the 70 day letter that they approve your AED and AP as soon as you apply for them and that you would have your cards for them in approximately a week to ten days as they won't let you apply for them in the beginning when you apply for your AOS.

I'm so ticked right now  ....... I'm really tired of having no life, not being able to do anything, blah, blah, blah.... I'm sure there are others that feel the same.......now am I looking at waiting another couple months before I can get on with my life and work and travel! I just had to vent as I don't know anyone in my city of 350,000 people that I can pick up the phone and talk to.
