You are required to get an exam done. The civil surgeon will complete and seal the form for you.

You should receive a letter in the mail that is yellow telling you what you should do.

My letter said that if you are scheduled for an interview that you must bring it to the interview with you.

If you do not get an interview, they will send you an RFE to submit the required form.

It also tells you not to send it in unless instructed to do so.

    Hope this helps.

    thanks appreciate it

HI there!  Yes, you do need the medical exam. It is called form I-693

(To avoid unnecessary delays, it is better to do it now than wait till your interview)

In order to apply for a permanent residence, you must undergo a medical examination. The purpose behind the examination is to ensure that you are not inadmissible to the U.S. on public health grounds.

However, you cannot simply undergo a medical examination with your regular doctor. Instead, a civil surgeon who has been specially designated by the relevant immigration authorities must perform the required medical examination. The civil surgeons who are qualified to perform green card medical examinations receive special, ongoing training about immigration issues.

Since you are applying for adjustment of status, you can access the list of qualified civil surgeons from USCIS website(https://my.uscis.gov/findadoctor)

Just enter your zip code to get a list of surgeons within your location.

    WHAT TO EXPECT

The doctor will talk with you, review your medical and vaccination history, and give you a physical examination, a chest X-ray, and blood test

During the physical portion of the examination, the doctor will, at a minimum, look at your eyes, ears, nose and throat, extremities, heart, lungs, abdomen, lymph nodes, skin, and external genitalia.

Check to ensure your vaccination records are up to date. These include:

Hepatitis A and B, Influenza, Influenza type b (Hib), Measles, Meningococcal, Mumps, Pneumococcal, Pertussis, Polio, Rotavirus, Rubella, Tetanus and diphtheria, toxoids, Varicella.

You can get all your vaccinations at a public hospital for a very cheap rate. Some clinics even give you for free(without insurance), but make sure you get most of the vaccines before visiting the surgeon. Trying to get them at the surgeons will practically drain your pocket.

CAUTION!   The doctor will give you a sealed medical report which you are to include in your documents; pls DO NOT OPEN the envelope. However, you can request a copy for your records.

thanks for the info appreciate it :) a very good explanation i didn't know about getting the vaccinations from clinics thanks truly appreciate it

Below are the instructions for form I-485 edition 06/26/17:

You are NOT required to submit Form I-693 at the time you file your adjustment application, but may do so if you
wish. Because of the time-limited validity of Form I-693, you may choose to submit your Form I-693 after you file
your Form I-485. You may also submit Form I-693 in person at an interview in a USCIS field office, if an interview is
required. By waiting to submit Form I-693, you may avoid having to repeat the immigration medical examination.

    thanks appreciate it :)

I would recommend to apply for the AP as well. It's free of charge when you file it with the I-485.

You never know whether you have to travel abroad during the AOS

I did apply for the AP, funny thing is that I received mine a week before the interview. But this was due to my own mistake, I accidentally used the old form. That's another thing you have to pay attention too, make sure you use the new updated forms.

We did it without a lawyer, but without this website we couldn't have done it.

It also depends on your situation, it's a pretty much straight forward process if you don't have any complicating issues.

You can find a lot of info here that might be useful to you.

Also did you apply for the EAD and AP?

And to be notified by USCIS about updates I would recommend to use the G-1145 form.

    Good luck

I am applying doe EAD but not for AP I am just reading about it and Im thinking about doing it! did you?
