  1. (obviously major portions of information is missing here...but)

    • 3 months is a long time, money or not.
    • I'd be thinking you're going and not returning
    • It would feel odd to not go together

Spend all that time apart to get a visa to come together, then spend an equal amount of time apart again...not me/us. We'd either go together or make the trip shorter.

Just because our mouths are moving doesn't always mean we're communicating. ~Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus.

  2. If things go well the following is what are the 'plans'...

    • Place to live - something we pick out together if can manage to stay where I am long enough until she gets here..
    • Car of some sort
    • Soft bed to sleep for days in..
    • Food for Oskar (the one and only cat)
    • Stealing some ideas from here - a nice basket of girlie toilletry things

If it all works out ok..

  3. First - keep in regular contact with your attorny - Weekly at least.

Firt question to ask - what is my receipt/case number and what is our NOA1 date?

If all is going well thus far, you should already have an NOA1 and have your case number so you can log onto the system (USCIS) to check your (basic) status (touches/approval).

Hope your journey is a quick one - try to find those with similar countries to yours so you can better judge timelines. If you check Embassy Info (above) you'll be able to see users from that country (unless someone knows a better way).

  4. First -

I'm no expert but I'd say something is wrong with your petition. Don't ask me what, but something.

    Second -

Although I'd love to, I won't spare/debate over why anyone would move from a democracy to what many would say is still a communist country. Not saying it’s a bad thing just wouldn't be for me.

    Lastly -

in today's world - am not sure any country is without buocracy - be it the US, EU-countries, Far East, etc. Some better/faster than others - and yes, I think they all are quick to collect taxes and slow to return papers. All things being equal - I think part (note; PART) of the slowness of our immigration system comes from the thousands (maybe millions) that are hoping to come here, not leave. Land of Opportunity still rings true.

    As for me -

I love my country - barely tolerate my/our sometimes comical government - I'd move to Germany in a heartbeat if I could -not because I hate my country, but because I love Germany too and love a certain wonderful person who is there.

Good Luck - hope you get some great advice from some of the terrific folks on this site.

  5. If your asking why turned down for a Student Visa - all I can say is check out the USCIS site regarding student visa requirements - at first glance I notice at least one requirement is: Must be a full-time student - does a 3 month language course qualify? Im not sure - I don't think so, but have no experience.

Check out the site (link below)

    Student Visa (USCIS)

Will this (Turn Down) hurt your K1 application? I doubt it seriously. Didn't they say why it was rejected?

  6. I think I'm a December filer. I sent everything on Nov 27th but got my NOA1 on Dec 5th, so I think that I'm one of you guys ;) Anyways, I am going to write on here anyway. I don't have anything really important to say. Just some ramblings that I was thinking and wanted to share :P

Congratulations on your Journey (NOA2) so far- We (Karin and I) are Germany to Texas as well - hopefully similar timing too...

We have a wedding date set for July 7th.

07/07/07 hmmm.. very symetrical.. will keep that date in mind..... :star:

  7. Uses less system resources by keeping IE in one 'session' rather than opening a new session w/each 'window' which is nice.

(Can open new tabs by right-clicking and Open in New Tab.)

Be sure to set your 'blank tab' to something you like (for me at least) since it gets annoying to see a blank one.

Cookies are there (as incorrectly stated above) C:\Documents and Settings\XYZUserName\Cookies is hidden by default I believe, but there nonetheless.

Has some interesting phishing features and pop-up blocker that works - but I never put too much stock in these gimic items.

You have to get used to the new/missing 'buttons' but it's not too bad.

I'd give it a "B" and best version yet.

  8. Here is the link for the Texas DMV and it's requirements - if you click around you will find much of the information you are looking for.

Texas DMV (Dept. of Motor Vehicles)

Keep the forum posted on how it goes - my fiance is coming to Texas too so would be interesting to hear.

Also - the written test isn't extremely difficult - they have a little booklet you can use to study from - if you study, you can pass. Good Luck..

  9. Using the form on this site for the fiance letter of intent, I noticed a small detail that almost led me to make a mistake. The form online if for the alien fiance, so it say you inted to marry within 90 days "my arrival."

But if the USC is filling it out it should be changed to MY arrival.

Did anyone else notice this? Or am I making some kind of mistake.

I, USC, do hereby state that I am legally able and willing to marry Alien, and intend to do so within 90 days of HIS/HER arrival into the US using the K-1 visa.

I, Alienb], do hereby state that I am legally able and willing to marry USC, and intend to do so within 90 days of MY arrival into the US using the K-1 visa.

Your right. The form should be drafted as MY/HER/HIS arrival.

Many forms here have mistakes in them. If you look at the I-129f it has "other" checked for form to file with and below it has "naturalization" checked.

Some people are perfect candidates for Direct Consular Filing. Their counsular will happily do everything for them and get the his/her/me/my just right so no thinking is required and leave them with only his/her bill to complain about.

    :ot2:

  10. The advice/notice on the USCIS site is:

Customers who have an application and/or petition which has been filed with USCIS but has not yet been decided (also known as a 'pending' case) should notify USCIS of any change of address as soon as possible after moving.

The law requires nearly all non-U.S. Citizens1 to report a change of address within 10 days of moving by completing a Form AR-11. Abiding by these legal requirements and completing the necessary forms does not update an address on any applications or petitions pending with USCIS. Non-citizens with pending cases must do both.

Most customers can now notify USCIS to change their address on a pending case online here on our website. Non-citizens can also now complete the Form AR-11 online here on our website.

If you choose to change your address online using our Online Change of Address Notification tool, you will need to have some information available. Please have the following information available before you begin:

    • Your receipt notice or other notice we sent you showing your receipt number (if you have a pending case with USCIS).
    • Your new address
    • Your old address
    • If you have filed a petition for a family member, please have the names and biographical information for that person.
    • When you last entered the United States (if you cannot remember this information please fill in an approximate date)
    • Where you last entered the United States (through what port of entry you entered - whether by land, sea or air)

  11. Thanks,

just a thought though, if you have people coming out for your wedding, and they are allowed a suitcase allocation of two per person, is there any tips for getting them to take stuff for you? Or is this a no no?

    Thanks Again,

    Teddy

As long as they packed it themselves - at least opened and know whats inside there should be no problems. Its a good idea to shuttle some items that way as long as no one minds. Great for off season clothes.

  12. How ruthless should you be? Cutting down on my dvd's isnt really an option, althouhg i could make some chops here and there. On ebay some of my titles are going for a quid, seems silly to junk them?

    Welcome to VJ,

CD's can be trimmed by putting them into the flexible binders (with the artwork) and the plastice cases left behind - saves weight and bulk. Or - in all the spare time waiting - can RIP them to MP3 and bring them any way you like.

    DVDs

Near and dear to my heart - for me, it's not just the actual cost, but the time it took to find them all. I'd bring them all. Dont forget to look for a Region Free DVD player when you get here if that applies. It would take me a long time to replace my collection - if I even could. And like you said, they don't fetch much on Ebay.

    Best of luck to everyone...
