  1. I'm really worried about something. Fran arrived hear March 18, 2007. We got married March 22nd. We went to apply for a Social Security number shortly thereafter, and we got it. No questions asked. She printed out a paper that said Temporary Employment Authorized. We freaked out because we thought that that was impossible. She said he has temporary permission to work until his K1 status expires which is June 16. So, he started working. Then we get his SS card in the mail today and it says not valid for work without DHS authorization. So, what gives? Did we screw up or what?

  2. Hi Kristen! My name is Alicia. My Husband is from Nicaragua. We were hesitant about the whole fiance visa route but it turned out to be perfect. We got our visa in 5 months from start to finish. He has been in the states since March 18th and already has a social security number. Because of his K1 status, when we applied for his social security number we were informed that he has temporary permission to work (until his K1 status expires~which is June). So, he has a job and we are working on adjusting status. Hope that helps.

  3. Tuesday was Fran´s interview...We were a wreck the night before putting all the papers in order...the copies in order...everything. But Tuesday we arrived early for the interview 8am...it was scheduled for 8:30 am...We waited like 2 1/2 hours and then they called Fran and he gave them all of the originals. They asked questions and then he came back to sit down. About 1 hour later they called him up again and I went with him this time. The lady was young...she asked him if he wanted the interview to be in Spanish or English. The interview consisted of a few questions nothing more. At one point the lady got real serious when she found out that our wedding will be on the 22 of March. She asked me what I was going to do if they needed more documentation...or if he didnt get the visa...I said that it will be a small wedding...if need be, we can change it. Then she said that she was going to approve the visa...and that was it. We have to call tomorrow to see if we can pick it up. Sorry about punctuation...I am writing from a cyber cafe in Nicaragua...The keyboards are different!!!!

  4. Ok...So, I know that questions about I-134 are extremely boring to you guys...but please help me out on this one. On the question that ask if I intend or don't intend to make specific contributions to support blah blah blah...I saw the example here on visa journey and it says to put N/A K1 visa process for permanent residence...Is that really the correct answer?...can someone please help me out on this one? Thanks...alicia

  6. Same here. My employer gave me a letter but it didn't have 1/2 of the pertinent information. He said legally he couldn't say all that I needed him to say. I have W-2s so I'm hoping that is enough. The bank couldn't give me a letter either. They printed a screen with the date I opened the account and current balance...but they can't help with the total deposited last year. So, I am in the same boat.

  7. Sorry Elizabeth...I bet you are going crazy thinking about it...PRAY!!! I hope that they overlook it like they did the others. I wish you the best amiga...let me know how everything goes. We just got our interview date today. May 13...It is later than we had hoped for but I'm glad to know something solid. tqm, alicia

  8. Ok, so I went to visit Fran Jan 2. I returned yesterday Jan 11. When I got to the Miami airport I called my mom. That is when she told me that I had mail from Homeland Security. It was our approval. I got it the day I flew back!!!! I cried in the airport. Fran called me later that night and he cried, too. Thanks for all your support. Just when you think it's taking forever...it comes! Bye!!

  9. I´m here with my sweetie in Nicaragua. We´ve been enjoying our time together and dreading Jan 11 when I have to return to the States...by the way, I´m still awaiting our NOA2...

    bye!!

  10. I signed a lease today for an apartment. I am moving out tomorrow (my first time-woo hoo!). I thought I wouldn't notify anybody...just let the mail go to my mom's house. Is that ok? By the way, I don't even have NOA2 yet (October filer), so I didn't want to screw things up by changing the address...

  11. I don't think its 'stupid' to want to see your fiance. You have to decide what is best for you guys (and your pocketbook!).

Your fiance will have to have work authorization to work legally in the US. This can take several months to obtain. Did you not understand this requirement when researching the fiance visa?

Thanks for responding...I think what would be best is to wait and not make 2 trips...but we want to see each other.

I thought that they get a temporary work permit...and then we would have to change his status...BUT I don't really know...that is just what I thought. I don't really know though.

According to the statistics for K-1 visas under "Immigration Timelines", the average time from NOA2 to the petition arriving at the consulate is 25 days and the average time from receiving the petition to the interview date in Nicaragua is 51 days. The total is 76 days or about 2 1/2 months. If your times conform to these averages, then you would expect an interview in early March.

Don't know if that helps, but it is at least one data point.

    Cheers

Thanks a lot...this informations is very helpful...Thanks for taking the time to help.
