Can I request a specific date for the oath ceremony on my naturalization interview?

Hi, I have my citizenship interview on July 27th. On September 2 I'm supposed to go on a trip to Spain that I have dreamed on doing with my husband for years and we spent thousands of dollars on tickets and hotels that we cannot cancel (the citizenship process took a lot less that what we expected). For what I have read on line my oath ceremony would be any time between the same day (July 27th) and two months after (28 Sept). What can I do to make it possible to travel? Could I ask the agent the day of the interview to either do my oath ceremony that same day or after my trip? What happens if the oath ceremony is on the dates of my trip, can i move it and how is that process? how long will it take to know my new ceremony date?

Congrats on your interview date!! Usually you will be able to get your Oath Ceremony either the same day or a few days later after your interview.  Just be aware, that even though you become a US citizen before you travel,  you also have to apply for a passport to be able to travel to Spain. This process can take weeks, sometime months.  Of course if you have a dual citizenship and already have a passport from your origin country, you may be able to travel, as long as you are exempt from needing a VISA or you do have VISA to travel. The Department Of State or USCIS will most likely not care if you knowingly bought a ticket to Spain, before you knew you were able to travel, but I am crossing my fingers for you guys, good luck!!

  2. Thank you all for your response and sorry for our late response, I am the husband, and I have already sent in my application for Naturalization (N-400). Our son is living with us, and he is a Green Card holder as well, and we understand that he will be automatically Naturalized when I am.  However, we need to get him a US passport, and I know we need some proof for his Citizenship in order to get his US passport. I know that I can apply for N-600 (Application for Certificate of Citizenship), but this is very overpriced, so we were hoping that we did not have to apply for this and instead use a different proof of his citizenship to get his passport.  I think you guys covered it, so thank you very much!

  3. My husband will be able to apply for citizenship soon. Both he and my 14 year old step son have Permanent Resident Cards. Once my husband becomes a citizen, it is my understanding that my stepson will automatically as well. I am just wondering what proof he will get so we can apply for a passport. Are there any forms we will have to fill out for him and will there be any cost for this as well. I have tried to google and read up on it myself but I feel like I get conflicting information and I would love if someone who has already gone through this process could enlighten us.

    Thank you in advance!

  4. We just got a case closed!!! 10/25/2017

We were in supervisor review and they said we still didn't have the papers. My husband spoke to them again and said we were told to send them and they would be included in the supervisor review. Also that it seemed a little silly since the papers were there to not just review them all together and save themselves some time. Well, they did just that. It still took almost 7 weeks but done!!

Now we wait for interview date! They just need to bring financial evidence.

  5. Called NVC yesterday. They have received our extra docs but do not have new scan date for us yet. I was told it could take up to 11 weeks for review and said oh but there is no new scan date??? Also asked if we were still in line for a supervisor review. Yes but that could take up to 6 weeks. We are 2 weeks in so far for this checklist.  Good luck to the rest of the June class of 2017. Wish I could have graduated with you all!!

  6. I just got off the phone with NVC. We have been sent to a supervisor for review but it can take up to 6 weeks for them to review it.  We are going to send the copies that they feel were missing or unacceptable again, but she was not able to tell me why they were not correct in the first place. However, if we send it also gets the papers back in the 11-week file pile.

Hubby called back and they said they would make note that we are resending requested support documents so once it is reviewed they should look for those as well.

    Prayers to whom ever please!!!

@AOKLO, I suggest you call for a supervisor review.  Maybe they can shed some light, or simply understand what you have sent.  Who knows, maybe you can bring "corrected" documents to your interview.  It is worth the phone call.

I plan to the second they open! I know we had it all. My Stepson was approved so clearly the AOS was in there. I know we sent the other docs as well. As the second wife, I made sure that the divorce decree was in there in both languages. We were married in Norway so I know it's legal. It's the only way that Norway sends it. When it comes to the military record we are a little unsure if what we sent was just not what they wanted or if they misplaced it.

    Ugh this process!!!

  8. We got a check list. Here is what is missing from my husbands  My stepsons was a CC and just to bring financial support with us to the interview. How did he get approved but not his dad?????

______F - FINANCIAL EVIDENCE:______________________________________ We received your Immigrant Visa Application; however, we have not received an Affidavit of Support form. You must submit an Affidavit of Support form before we can complete your case. Please go to our website http://nvc.state.gov for instructions on how to obtain, complete, and submit an Affidavit of Support form. When responding to the National Visa Center, please include the bar code sheet that came with this letter. Failure to include the bar code sheet may cause a delay in the processing of your case. The bar code sheet should be placed on top of all documents being submitted for this case and mailed to the address provided.

We sent both mine and Mothers. Mine was questionable but my mother should have been fine.

______9 - MILITARY RECORDS:________________________________________ Please submit a photocopy of the applicant's official military records.

We sent. It is in both languages and really only says that he was complete and his date.

______6 - MARRIAGE TERMINATION:____________________________________ We cannot accept the marriage termination document you sent. You must send us the correct document so we can continue to process your case. To see the guidelines for your document, go to our website at http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country.html. Enter your country of birth in the box at the top of the page. The next page will be your country's "reciprocity schedule". Click on "Marriage, Divorce Certificates" on the left-hand side. This will take you to a page with the exact requirements for the type of marriage termination document you must submit to the NVC. If your documents are not in English or the language of the country where you will have your interview, you must include a certified translation. The translation must include a statement that says the:  Translation is accurate Translator is competent to translate

We sent and the very clear translation.

    Feeling so discouraged right now.

I hate to have to come on here and say this, but I will because I want the dates for my case to be correct. Unfortunately, yesterday when checking the status of our case I accidentally typed in one number incorrectly without realizing and was looking at a case complete for someone else and not us.  And being so excited I didn't double check the number I entered and told everyone here and all my friends and family that our case was complete .

After going to review to see if our AOS disappeared  I noticed it was still there and went back to re-enter our case number and saw that it still said submit documents.

Its a devastating blow to think you're done and have a CC only to realize a few hours later you don't. I feel completely ridiculous and hopefully I'll be sharing the ACTUAL good news of a CC very soon. Thanks everyone :(

Big Hugs, No need to feel ridiculous. We are all very excited and it will still happen for you.

  10. So how does one get an updated 1-864 for their sponsor?  I live in Norway with my Husband and my mom is sponsoring us.  She signed the papers when she was here last.  I guess she will have to just mail us the signed copy if we need a new one.

I wonder if the error they are telling all of you is to update the 2016 taxes on the i-864.

Congrats to all of you!! Looking forward to hearing about your interviews!

Your scan date is the day they received and have everything needed to process( ds260 and package). I sent my ds260 the same day I sent off my package but nvc did not receive my package until 4 days later so my scan date is when they received my package.they start the 11 weeks when they have received everything pertaining to your case.

Ahhh, ok Then I will keep the June 28th date.  I was not taking into account the mailing time from Norway.

Thank you and good luck everyone!

  12. Hello, fellow Junies!! Congrats to all that have a CC thus far. Looking forward to receiving ours as well. My husband had called back in June to confirm that our papers had been received and they said yes, so we have been using June 28th as our scan date, but I just logged into the check my status and notice that it says on 6/22/17 the NVC received your documents. Should this be the correct scan date?? If so I need to update us on the spread sheet.
