Thank you all for your inputs.

I managed to talk to a t2 agent last week. The line does roll onto the following day, so for those trying to reach out to a t2 agent while calling, make sure to pay attention to your phone the next day.

The call itself was not too helpful but I understood from the officer that an info pass can be more productive (or not) if it is scheduled at the office holding your case as you might get lucky and be able to talk to the officer handling your case. Worst case scenario you get the same at an info pass as you do from a t2 officer on the phone.

In sum, I have to keep waiting indefinitely (as many others) while they sit on my case until when they decide to review it and make a decision.

Meanwhile, I am considering going out of the country on a short vacation.

For those that have been to the oath ceremony (especially in NY city):

    1) Did anybody at the oath ceremony at any point ask you questions including where have you been since the interview? I wonder if this will happen for sure at the ceremony or if this is just a risk.

    2) Did anybody leave the country after interview/before the ceremony? Was there any comment on this by USCIS officers or negative damage to the application?

    Ty,

    Carlos

    Hi there!

had my oath on April 6,2018 at NYC and no question asked. You will receive a list of questions with your oath notification letter that you have to fill out on the day of ur ceremony.

there is no problem with leaving the country before your oath just make sure you don't miss your oath date.

    good luck

Hello All, I have been a lurker here for a while, sorry about that.

Have a question for those that got in touch with USCIS regarding their case:

    1) Is an info pass = to talking to a tier 2 agent on the phone? In terms of their power to see what is going on with your case and telling you more insights.

It has been impossible to get either of those. The Federal Plaza building in NYC never has any appointments and when I call the general 1800 and ask for a Tier 2 agent, they put me in a callback line of 5+ hours plus and after accepting it I never get a callback. I wonder if I should keep trying to secure both or if I should stop once I get either to happen.

My case is in some kind of limbo after the interview. The officer was startled by my background (lots of traveling around + 10 months on an MBA course overseas) and couldn't make a decision before doing more background checking. He told me they have 120 days to decide but that most of the time they do so around 4-6 weeks after the interview, which has passed already.

    2) Is there another number that I could call to get a hold of a tier 2 agent? (case is in NYC)

    Thanks

This is incorrect. There is no way anyone will ever get a US passport that quickly even with expedite.

Yes you can! My husband got his passport in one day las December for our trip to our home country for Christmas. You just call and make an appointment. Must bring proof of travel like an itinerary and that is it.

Not everyone likes the idea of filing online though...it's got it's pros and cons.

(I filed online from NY....speed of my process was a definite plus)

I filed online in July and I filed paper in June. U were done within 3 months and I just finished my process last Friday. That's a huge difference there are people waiting for over a year just to have an interview schedule. I will strongly recommend to everyone to file on line!

    Hi all!

Just filed my N400 this evening by mail through my attorney. The first filing date is next Monday so he will be sending off my package Friday. I am filing with a pending i-751. What was interesting is this, he advised to send none of the evidence they need except for just the vital information (green card copy, Selective service number). He advised that because the  i-751 hasn't been approved, there is no need to send new evidence and I should simply bring it to my interview whenever this may be. Thoughts on this? It seems like it doesn't quite follow the norm that I have read other applicants have done. I have to trust him as I expect he has done this a million times, but it put me on edge!

    Thanks!

You should fire that guy. First of all you should have filed on line instead of regular mail. Paper filers are taking a year or more to process. It took my N-400 10 months cause I had no clue you could do it on line. Second you should have had sent all the supporting document you have. Everybody knows this. That is why this web site it's so helpful. Our immigration journey started in 2011 and not a cent spent it on lawyers.

Folks, thanks very much for all the support here.

I applied in December 2017, completed fingerpriting on January 3, 2018, and have been waiting for interview since then.

I had an INFO pass appointment at Mount Laurel last Friday - 3/31.  the lady told me that my case is "in line" waiting for an interview to be scheduled, and that I currently have about 250 people ahead of me whose interviews have to be scheduled first before mine.  I asked her how many they schedule per week, and she said between 20 to 30.  So, I have few more months to wait.

    Just some update ...

    thanks - PS

If you had your fingerprints in  january you might get ur interview in July or maybe August. Had my finger in June 2017  and they schedule my interview for February 2018

I don't mind waiting, I'm not in a rush but I wanted to plan travel for the next few weeks which may be tricky....

I wanted to be over with this process, it's stressing and I applied back in early June 2017.

already applied for my passport. It's a good feeling not having to think about USCIS ever in my life.

    Lucky...

I got in line for an Oath mid-March and still waiting :(

Wow. I have heard horror stories of people waiting months for the oath date. Was so scared that was gonna be me but it was exactly how the IO said(you have a strait and simple case and people who got approved at the spot should get the oath letter in 2-4 weeks. My status never changed to in line for oath. It went straight from scheduled interview to oath ceremony was scheduled and mailed. Hope you hear somehing soon

Hey guys, thank you for your contribution.

I apologize for forgetting to mention my specific situation  that makes the requirements apparently stricter for me.

After my first entrance in the US in 2013 I had to go back to London in order to finish a master. The absence lasted for 8 months and in the document checklist the 5 years return transcript are listed among the other requisites.

When did you came back from your 8 months trip? You might have broken your residency in the US and are not elegible for citizenship

The actually ceremony (which is when the judge enter the room to you getting your certificate) can take anywhere from 25 minutes to an 1 hour or more.

However, from the time you first enter the building to the time you actually leave the building with your certificate in-hand can be anywhere from 1 hour to 4 hours - depending on the amount of people and how fast they are being processed.

Here is a detailed summary (page 18 of this thread) of when my wife had her ceremony at 500 Pearl Street this past January - although your wait time will be different, it will tell you exactly what to expect.

My husband and I got to the building 9.50am. There was a long line and by the time we passed security and leave our cellphones it was already 10.25. Got to the actual room to where the ceremony was gonna be held and the line was outside the door. They were taking the appointment letters to everyone. We sat down waiting for the judge. The judge came in it a few minutes before 11.30 said a speech congratulated us and inmediatelly after that they started to call our names. Got my certificate and was good to go. Yes you could say it took me less two hours to be naturalized!

  15. 1 hour ago, touyats said:

Uh? Only half an hour? Other people said it takes 2 or 3 hours from when you walk in and when you exit. t what time did your letter say to arrive?

Well I guess it depends where u have your oath!

my was at 500 pearl street. The letter said to be there by 10.00am and I got there at 9.50. Between the line in security to in the building and the line to leave your electronic devices and the line to actually get into the room where the ceremony is going to be held it was almos 11.00am. They take the oath letter give you a large envelope which contain registration to vote, a passport application, and the instructions of the ceremony. You take a seat and wait for everybody to be seated. The judge come into the room said a small speech and start calling your name to give the certificate and that is all. It's a very straight forward ceremony and they waist no time. I was already eating lunch with my husband by 12.00.

again I'm referring to my experience only I don't know about other people's experience.

    thank u
