I don't want to discourage you but Afghanistan has one of the highest visa refusal rate for B-visas. https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/Non-Immigrant-Statistics/RefusalRates/FY16.pdf

Only ~2100 people were able to get B visa last year. https://travel.state.gov/content/dam/visas/Statistics/Non-Immigrant-Statistics/NIVDetailTables/FY16 NIV Detail Table.pdf

So make sure they do their best preparing for the visa interview but at the same time numbers don't lie, three out four B-visa applications get denied from Afghanistan. I hope everything goes well but don't get devastated if they get denied. US Embassy website should have all the necessary information how to make visa appointments and which paperwork to fill. They should definitely read those thoroughly first. Then, start collecting as much documentation as possible to prove their ties, property records, paychecks, bank statements, employment statements, travel bookings, etc. It usually helps it they had previous visas from other countries too. I would definitely try to make an appointment as soon as possible. That would also allow them extra time in case there is a delay in decision or if they request additional documents and such.

    Good luck with everything!

They had gotten a visa before from turkey. So idk if that'll be helpful?

It is hard to get visitor visas in Afghanistan. They denied those girls from Afghanistan that were coming to a robotics competition twice, and they got the visas because Trump read it on the news.

Anyway, they need to get a lot of documentation on strong ties to the country. Getting a visitor visa for Sept. 9 might be too soon. If they are wealthy, have good jobs, education, and property, it will be much easier than if they don't have anything. It is sad.

I'd say they need to start the process as soon as possible. But maybe have a Plan B in place (like traveling there next year and having a second ceremony with her family) so that they don't get too sad if they are not able to get the visa.

Yes, totally understand. My fiance family does have strong ties back home with good jobs. Praying they can come. Once they fill the DS-160 they have to contact the embassy for an interview date?

They must apply for Tourist Visas on their own merit. There is no USC sponsorship for tourist visas.  They will have to prove strong ties to their home country.

So his parents live in Kabul, Afghanistan. So they have to go to the embassy of the US to apply for a tourist visa? Can strong ties be.....having a couple of houses and lands and a good job?

  4. My fiancé had the same problem. He said the interview went well and asked about 5-6 questions but at the end of the the interview, she couldn't make a decision so she kept my tax returns and my co sponsor which is my mother, her tax returns as well and the police reports but gave his passport back with a 221g white slip with no miss documents just under extra background check but he did ask how long this process will take. & she said a week or 2 weeks. After a week and half, the embassy called to send your passport.

  5. My fiance had his interview July 10th, 2017. At the end of the interview, the CO didn't confirm to him if he got approve or not. She said he had to go through extra security check. He moved from Afghanistan last year to Turkey so I guess both countries are flags but she did advise that it shouldn't take couple of weeks. After the interview CEAC update AP. Well, Friday 07-14 he went under Application Received and his Case Created Date changed for July 14th which it was May 17 before and the update changed as well to the 14th. &  once the Case Created Date change, it turned into Non- immigrant before it was Immigrant. Is this a good sign? or no.....? Just been a stressful journey.

Same thing happened to me. It was in application received for a week until today.. it went back to AP. And also changed to non inmigrant.. still in administrative pricessing and on non immigrant.. i think k1 visas are really non immigrant at first since we still need to get married before changing status. It's justbwhat i think but im not so sure.. if it worries you, try calling the embassy, thats what we did.

When you called the embassy, what did they tell you?

  7. Yes, and specially if you live in another country as Turkey or India and you're from a Afghan background or even Pakistani or even Iran I heard, you get extra processing but after the interview you can ask them and maybe they can give you a approx how long itll take. My fiance lives in Turkey but he's from Afghanistan moved about a year ago, & he went under processing which they told him it'll take a couple of weeks.

  8. My fiancee had his interview yesterday and they said they couldn't make a decision right now. The officer said, he has all the documents and he wasn't missing anything. She did go through all the pictures we had which was about 20 pictures with each other and family in it as well and our conversations. She handed back the evidence and said we will contact you in a couple of weeks. Sigh :/ but the officer kept, my tax returns with my pay stubs and his birth certificate and his police report. My fiance had two police report cause he moved to Turkey last year, he was living in Afghanistan his whole life. So they only kept his police report from Afghanistan. Waiting is all we can do now....
