I am a US citizen and my husband is a perm. resident. Before coming to the US he raised his brother's son, after the death of both the child's parents. The child is now 10 years old. He thinks his mother may have actually filed adoption papers and legally adopted the child, making him my husband's brother. Am I, as the US Citizen spouse, eligible to file the I-130 for this child?

OK--do you file the form I 131 for Advance Parole so you can travel from US to Canada and back on the k-a visa, or not? I'm totally confused. The instructions are clear us mud.

Dwight said the same thing before he reached--no dogs in the bedroom. NOw he babies them worse than I do.The dogs can stay in the house just not in the room he sleeps in. Still haven't broke the news to my dog. She's really not going to like that one. She's slept on my bed since she was a puppy. What we don't do for our men

Thanks Mindy--it DID seem like that. I still wake up and look at him and think "gosh--is he REALLY here??" It should be illegal to be this happy.
Ann
Best wishes on your wedding today Ann(wynterstail) and Dwight!!
Hey Ann -- Remember (way, back, when ) you never thought this day would be here? Best wishes. I'm so happy for the two of you.....

OK, now that we're married...we have to start the AOS process. I glanced over the guide--can you use the same Biographic Data sheet, affidavit of support, etc. that you just used with the K1 petition. When can you apply for a social security card, and how? Any tips?

Well, today is finally the day. George's flight leaves MoBay at 8:50 this morning, connects in Newark, and arrives in Rochester at 5:00 this afternoon. I'm so nervous! I just keep obsessively cleaning the house. Whatever happens after today, I am so grateful for the information and support of all of you. I know I shouldn't complain about the process--I mailed the petition on September 1st, and he's arriving today--but this has been the most stressful 3 and half months of my life I think, worse than having breast cancer. Trying to build a life with someone while you shout over a lousy overseas connection into a cell phone, taking out the same photos to look at over and over, laying in bed at night and wondering, how long Lord, how long? hoping your kids will accept him, and that he'll feel the same about them. Well--the whole thing has been quite a ride! I'm gonna stay busy and wash a chicken to make brown stew. THank you, VJ friends.

We are still playing "Who's got the visa?" Monday the embassy said airpak picked it up; last night we were talking to airpak right until they closed, and it still hadn't arrived. They then checked the tracking number and said it's still at the embassy. His plane ticket was for today, so we had no choice but to switch it. So no it's for Saturday. I didn't want to go much farther because I'll lose the good ticket price if it's past Tuesday. Other than Shauan, how long has it taken folks to get the visa?
Ann
Do you know how to be a wife??? We think we want a husband. I didn't know the real meaning of being a wife, until God sent me my husband. So think long and hard for what you ask for you might just get it and not know what to do with it
That's a good point Denise. In the most successful marriages that I have personally seen; if you have a truly good man and a great husband-then those qualites almost always bring out the best in the woman. So if the man takes the lead in being a good husband and father then it almost always follows that the woman will be a good wife. So another point of view is "does your man know how to be a husband?"
Glad to hear you're feeling better too . I'm sure you'll get some good news soon.
Ann-how did George make out?

I fiananced quite a few trips home over the years....what can I say? I try to imagine how I would feel if I was living there and wanted to see my children here. But you're right, the pressure of bills that come in rain or shine, every month, is serious presssure to keep a good job. I think I might put it on the job--if they give him a leave of absence, fine; but if they aren't willing, I would have to suggest to him that he wait a little while until he can take some time off without jeopardizing the job, and just send money to his kids (rather than spending it on the trip)
Ann
Hi all,Dee, did you have awful terrible weather as well there in KC a few days back? It totally missed us, but looked like KC got hammered with ice and then snow.
Well, I have great news, Lake took his math GED test and PASSED!!! It was the second time he took it, his teacher just called yesterday afternoon, and he was dancing around the kitchen and giggling like a schoolgirl! It was too cute!
I am stressing a LOT! I would love other peoples opinions of this, just to hear what you all have to say bout it.
Well, you all know Lake got a really great job with great benefits, etc at the school system here, where he loves everyone he works with, etc. Well, he has been positively INSISTENT about going home for Christmas this year, since he hasnt been home for Xmas in over 5 years, yada yada. Now last year he went home for 5 weeks in January if you will remember, so it was CLOSE to xmas, but not xmas time, where he really wants to spend time with all the fam gathered. (He DID get to see everyone last time, for a couple days, tho). Anyhows....I will have to take out another loan in order for him to do this, so....so far, even tho he has worked for 4 months, it will cost everything he has made so far, then plus he wants some "extra" (like $5,000) to pay back his brother. The loan I am getting is at 24%...yikes! We are in pretty deep straights, with him doing this right at this time. Another year, fine and dandy, but right now...OUCH! But I do understand somewhat, he DOES have children back there, they are in bad shape right now, cant even afford food, etc. at this time.
He has asked for leave of absence, but who knows, after only being there a short time. I know its stupid to quit a great job, and you just CAN NOT do that in America, where you take off 6 weeks every year, until you are established and have leave built up, and some money put back, etc. I would never be able to do this if we lived in an apartment, with reg bills, etc, which means Mom an sis are funding room and board, really, til he gets back and can make it back up.
I have explained and explained, but am not gonna say he CANT go. So I went ahead and got tickets, (havent bot return, Kelly..might need to talk to you bout that one) several months back. I just now told my fam, and boy are they stressing me out bigtime. They are not telling me anything I havent already thot of, and say its awfully selfish of him. He says he really doesnt want me to go, its way too dangerous, etc, and that I mite get killed, etc, as whites over there, especially Americans, are robbed and killed all the time. Its MUCH worse than Jamaica, crime wise.
I am not sure he really knows how much everything all costs, really, even tho I talked and talked. So now he wants to sell his Tahitian black pearls, which I am loathe to do, even tho we might be able to get about $3,000 for them if they are worth anything like what the jeweler told us. They are such an integral part of my memories of first meeting him, I just would rather pay 25% than sell the darn things.
I just dont know how to explain that once you find a great job, with great benefits, that you LIKE, and have folks you really like that you work with, to throw that away is nine kinds of stupid! He thinks jobs are so EASY to find...I keep telling him six years ago, businesses were getting 500 apps from desperate folk just to work at places like Taco Bell paying $6.50 an hour cuz times were so hard and jobs were so scarce, (we had massive layoffs here) He just doesnt get that, cuz he hasnt gone thru it, I guess, but he HAS gone thru it in his country. Arrrhhhhhh!
Anyhow, Mom is ready to "divorce" him. lol Its all rather funny, I guess, how life works, but the money situation sure has me stressed.
Hugs to all
Jill

We on ly had 3 photos together, and they didn't question it.
ANn
Ok ladies I have a quick question. Pictures are important for the actual petition or for the interview?? I put my I-130 packet together this weekend but I dont' have many pics from my Oct trip b/c the camera I had didn't have a film. I didn't realize it until after the fact, however, I do have one from this trip and a couple from my last trip. Should this be okay? If not I can have Javon's neice send me a couple of the pics she took w/her camera but it will take another few wks for her to send them to me. Does this even matter???? -
The Embassy is sooooo frustrating.................I can't reach a living soul to ask if they've issued the actual visa, or if they will today, or if they will tomorrow, or if i need to change the plane ticket for Wednesday. ARRGHH!

George had prepaid Cable & Wireless, and they don't generally provide itemized lists of calls, but the embassy gave him the "blue sheet" and told him to give it to Cable and Wireless, and sure enough, with some nagging and horsing around, Cable and Wireless gave us the last 6 months of his phone calls to here.

Good Morning EveryoneIt looks like interviews are coming one after another I would like to congradulate everyone who has gone thru it And send out best wishes to those who have them coming up .
I am starting to wonder what is going on with my case, I haven't heard anything... Not even a touch
I don't understand why Calif. is so slow I haven't received any RFE's so I guess that is a good thing.
I have a question about the proof of relationship...
1. They ask for phone bills... He has digicel which we all know, they don't get a bill but he has saved all the phone cards. The cell phone co. I'm with doesn't do bills either. We talk on the phone just about everyday, but don't have visual proof.
2. They want to see envelopes with post marks... We have sent letters (cards) thru the mail, but very few.
My question to you all is... Did anyone have to produce these items, if so was there any problems if you didn't have them?

Thanks Anna--
How are you enjoying being a married lady?
ANn
I think she was questioning having more stuff from him, as opposed to me. They have my phone records, etc. I don't know what we're supposed to do about that. It is what it is. I wish I had some envelopes from postmarked from MoBay.

Interview update--Well, George went for his interview this morning. he must have had the Window 11 girl, he said she was young and nice. She said he didn't really question her about anything but why we took 3 years to decide to get married. He explained that I'd had cancer and that delayed my coming back down there, and he said she seemed to understand. Because they gave him the interview on only one week notice, he could not get his medical until 11/14; She said she would have the result in about a week after that, and that he should bring along any thing he has to show the ongoing relationship--cards, western union receipts, his phone records. We already had explained because he has a prepay cell phone, he can't get his actual phone records, we already tried. He told he had all the cards and things with him, but she said just hold on to it and show it all to her when he comes back after the medical. She said to go and get something form cable and wireless explaining that they don't give phone recoreds for prepay accounts. He seemed to feel it went OK, but now I'm really worried.
Ann
I'm sure everything will work out. Just have him bring back the same evidence when he goes back to the Embassy.
Ann,
I'm Jamie can tell you more about it but I remembered when they had their interview last year. That had to submit add'l ongoing evidence but when they came back he just showed the same thing he had the first time and was approved w/no problems. I'm sure he will be ok. Try not to worry.

I got the email from the Embassy lady Halloween night telling me they had a cancellation for Nov 7 and she suggested we grab it because December dates were "uncertain". I suspect this is because of the moving that will be happening. Try not to stress too much--they WILL schedule it. I know--it's SO frustrating. If they would just give you a damn date, even if it's January 1st, you could at least plan...
Ann
People, please help me if you can!! I don't know what to do and I'm not getting ANY answers...I called the Embassy on Wednesday, and then again on today to check to see if they had scheduled my fiance's interview for December. The two ladies that I spoke with said that they had not...and the lady today said that all the November dates had been filled up, and when I asked about December she could not give me an answer! I am SO frustrated at this point that I don't know what to do..I keep bugging them because I was told a few weeks ago that the appointment letters for December were going to be mailed out at the end of October, and I know that a lot of you said that people were receiving notification the first week in November...I don't know what else to do! I've tried e-mailing them SEVERAL times but I have yet to receive a response to any of my inquiries! Any more suggestions!!?? -
Help! I'm trying to organize George and his papers for the interview from 2000 miles away. He's really overwhelmed by all the paper. Am I correct that when you are first called in, you give them "your papers" and they tell you to go take a seat? Do you just hand them everything you have?

Would someone who has recently gone through the interview and medical please look at this link and tell me if these are the same medical forms you received in your packet 3? Otherwise, George will have to drive to Kingston (again) just to get these forms, because he never received packet 3 in the mail. http://www.afst.com/Jamaica/k1/jamaica_k1_fiancee_visa.htm
You have to click on the link that says "consulate phase" and then scroll down to the bottom and click on the manilla envelope.

What forms did you have to bring for the interview--I'm thinking of the DS 156, or 156K and 157 that they say have to be filled on on the computer.
Welcome back and congratulations.
Was your interviewer a young American girl?
She didn't ask me too many questions or for any other proof.
It is over for the most part. What hotel did you end up staying at?
we had window #8...she was in her late 20's early 30's...she was nice...not mean or rude...nice....
at least the hard part is over with...i think mike could have done it alone...but we really did need each others support during and after!!
we stayed the same place you did....i liked it...staff was very nice....we actually didn't end up swimming we were so drained from everything we took a LONG nap!!!
i just thought of something BRING A PEN!!!! just incase.....

Help--medical forms? Does anyone know where i can get the medical forms on line? We were given a last minute appt for the interview Nov 7 because of a cancellation. Embassy is faxing him the appt letter, but says they can't fax the "form" he will need. Ideas?

I don't think I can go if it's just a week from today. I'm frantically looking up airfares, but there's nothing less than about $600, and in order to hve enough to pay for the visa itself, the medical,==oh hell--it would be next to impossible for me to be there. But maybe he should still take it.
Ann
HELP! I just got an email from the Embassy saying they had a cancellation for Nov 7 and asking me if we want to take it, because of the "uncertainty" of December appointments. What to do???
Ann
Wow congrats! Can you get time off from work to go? Your case moved super fast. I am so amazed. Are you going to take that date? All the best and congrats what wonderful news.
