I would assume the relevant documentation are your I-20 forms and your F-1 visas, which indicate that you were on a valid nonresident visa between the ages of 18 and 25, and hence not required to register for selective service.
-
You can't go back to the US on your IR-5 visa, since it is only valid for 6 months.
-
Do you need to bring your naturalization certificate, or is a US passport acceptable?
-
According to this section of the USCIS policy manual,
https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartD-Chapter4.html
"USCIS will count the day that an applicant departs from the United States and the day he or she returns as days of physical presence within the United States for naturalization purposes."
-
Yeah, I shredded the passport which I first entered the US on, which contained my F-1 visas, but they did not ask to see them during the naturalization interview.
-
I updated my Global Entry at the San Diego border crossing, and they needed an appointment to do this. The actual process took about 5 minutes, I submitted my passport and Global Entry card to the reception, and when they called me, they had already finished the process of updating my account. They took away my current Global Entry card, and asked me to request a new one.
I was a bit concerned as when I checked my GOES account online, in the "Manage Account" section, there was no information about my US passport, in particular, in the citizenship information section, it states that I was entering as a US citizen but "no proof of citizenship documents provided," and my green card was still in the admissibility documents section. But, in the update documents section, both my passports were listed, and when I tried entering this weekend, it accepted my US passport at the Global Entry kiosk, so it was all good.

California also has the AB-60 option, though I would think twice about using it for Federal or non California state purposes.
Indeed, while California law enforcement is not allowed to discriminate on the basis of an AB-60 license, nothing prevents non-California law enforcement from viewing an AB-60 license as a strong indication that you're likely an undocumented immigrant.

Yes I did see that but got confused about whether J-1 was considered lawful non immigrant
Yes, a J-1 is a lawful nonimmigrant status.
This is a helpful chart of visas, and whether they are considered immigrant or nonimmigrant visas,

If you read question 44.A. on the N-400 form, it is written in plain English, it asks if you are male and lived in the United States at any time between your 18th birthday and 26th birthday, and you are only to exclude periods for which you were a lawful nonimmigrant.

nope, illegals aren't required to server in the military and furthermore are NOT even authorized to do so. there are exceptions when the army was recruiting some, but in general it is not the case.
I'm sorry, but you're wrong. From the following website,
https://www.sss.gov/Registration/Immigrants-and-Dual-Nationals
it states that,
"If you are an immigrant man (documented or undocumented) living in the United States, age 18 through 25, you are required to register."

he was not an immigrant at that point, so no worries - only PRs and US Citizens have to be registered - I literally spoke to SSS over the phone last Friday
Technically, if you were illegally in the US between 18 and 25, you would also be required to register for Selective Service.

Thanks so much! Either that or perhaps reschedule oath? Would much prefer to do the former.
If it's something as simple as a different last name due to marriage, I doubt that they would give you any issues if you had both passports and a marriage certificate.
-
I would bring both passports in case anyone questions the difference in names.
-
You are better off filing under the 5 year rule in that case as there is much less paperwork.
-
I would simply bring both passports.

I think it's always the best policy to accurately report the truth on the forms you submit to USCIS. Haven't you already asked this exact same question?

Ok Everyone! Thanks for all the supports and suggestions you gave me, I really appreciate it. Thank God I have been placed in line for Oath Ceremony. They will be sending me a letter stating the date and time of the Ceremony. My question is does anyone know how long it takes to get the letter, cos i have had this update for over a month now and still haven't gotten a letter. Thanks
It can take some time between being placed in line for the oath ceremony and having the ceremony scheduled. In my case, it took about a month, but it depends on how regularly your field office schedules oath ceremonies. You should receive another email update when the oath ceremony is scheduled, and the actual letter containing the date and location would take another few days after that.

Whatever you do, do not lie. You lived where you lived, and that's the truth. In the remote event that a question about it comes up, explain just as you've explained it to us here. Just avoid overthinking things to the point where you get yourself in deep trouble for lying.
I agree, telling the truth is definitely the right choice.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I want to use that address because it's where I actually lived with her. So technically I lived there but legally not, because we took my name off the rent lease and forgot to put it back in (after that little argument we had). So my concern is that it might be a problem? If the IO figure it out? Or the IO won't bother to contact the landlord management office to check?
Or should I put I lived in my car for few months? lol because IO only believe in what's on papers
But the thing is: even my bank accounts were still using that address as I didn't change their physical address
The bottom line: do IO check the addresses we put on n-400 and bother to call landlords?
Who knows if the IO verifies such things? But, I think if you're sufficiently worried about this that you would consider lying on your form, then I would simply wait to submit your naturalization application.
-
I don't see why you should put anything but the actual address you lived at for the first year, anything else would be a lie. If you're concerned they won't be able to verify the address, then just wait a few more months until that address drops off the 5 year window.
-
If the check wasn't cashed, I would suggest just submitting a completely new application with new materials and a new check.
-
The request to bring your passport is just so that they can verify whether you've maintained continuous residence. There isn't a requirement for you to renew your passport if it has expired. I'm very surprised that they took David's wife's passport at the interview, I don't think that's standard practice. In my case, they didn't even bother to look at my Singapore passport at the interview, which I needed anyway, since I was traveling between the interview and the oath ceremony.

Let us say if you need to take a trip after the ceremony and before getting the passport, would u be ok to use the certificate?
No, once you have the ceremony, you are a US citizen, and must leave and enter the US on a US passport.
You can apply for a passport at a passport agency, but you have to make an appointment,
https://www.passportappointment.us/
and must have international travel within the next 14 days. Thankfully for you, you're in Los Angeles, so there is a passport agency there. They can even issue a passport in time for same day travel, assuming your flight is in the evening.

You can get an InfoPass appointment to get an I-551 stamp to verify your permanent resident status, which will be valid for one year.
