During our AOS interview last Friday, the agent said he didn't have a copy of our marriage certificate, even though we submitted it. We brought our original, which he copied for his files.
-
EDIT: I should add that while they totally flipped out over cellphones, the digital camera I had inadvertently left in my purse came through security without a remark.

OK -- interview day!
Got on BART at 7:35 to get to our 9 AM appointment in SF. (Yeah, lots of time. BUT....)
We got there and got in line.
"Do you have a cellphone?"
"No," said my husband.
"Yes," sez I.
"Take it back to the car," says the guard.
"But we didn't come by car!" we both exclaim.
So, apparently, there's some sort of camera shop across the street that will babysit your cellphone for $3.
I run back to the building, and my husband and I go through security, where we discover that my husband had a dead cell phone in his backpack. So *he* runs across the street to arrange for cellphone-babysitting. By the time he got back, he was pretty steamed.
We get up to the waiting room at about 8:35. We sit and watch CNN and see the other AOS folks wander in, some with attorneys in tow. The attorney with the couple who were sitting behind us says to his clients that "the agent will probably mark that your case is pending further review, but that's OK. They usually do that."
At about 9:15 an agent comes out and calls our name. We follow him down several hallways to his office. He introduces himself but doesn't tell us his first name. He looks over our file and notices that we've moved, so he makes corrections and then asks the "are you a terrorist/communist/druggie" questions. He then has my husband sign the amended form.
He asks us how we met, when we decided to get married. He asks me what are the first names of my husband's parents, and who attended our wedding. (Later, when I complain to my husband about ME getting all the questions, he tells me it's because I look "dodgy.")
He then asks for some additional documentation. We produce our rental agreement, a letter from the utility announcing a service disruption addressed to both of us, some wedding photos -- we really didn't have a lot, which gave me pause -- we don't have people take too many photos of us, we don't share finances (my bank account was drained by an ID thief about a year ago), but the agent didn't let on. I'm sure nearly all of you have more than we do!
The agent tells us that he's checking the "pending further review" box, but adds that he thinks he'll be stamping the approval later that day.
I walk out sorta bummed, but my husband tells me what he overheard back in the waiting room with the attorney.
We go back home, take a nap. I wake up, check my email:

had the interview , he said he will review the file and we should expect the conditional greencard in the month  I can't wait to be done with this chapter (AOS)and just enjoy our life together....
That's great news! I was thinking of you! We go in tomorrow....
-
We have our AOS appt. first week of sept......
You go in the day before us! in SF, right?
-
Who else has interviews coming up? Anyone?
-
Well, we got a letter today saying that we have an interview on September 5. (No touch on the file -- odd.) My guy is annoyed -- he was hoping that we'd just get transferred and get the GC shortly thereafter, but I told him it's the luck of the draw, and September will be here before we know it.
So at least there is some progress! (Slow and stately, but progress nonetheless!)
-
No touches on AOS since May. <taps foot>
-
AP arrived in the mail today, says my husband -- YAY
-
We faxed our checklist. That seemed to do the trick.
-
6/5/08: AP touched and email arrived saying approval notice has been sent!
-
No songs for us (married at a county office, then quick lunch with the very small wedding party), but as we drove into our mini-honeymoon destination (Calistoga, CA) the song "Smoke Two Joints" came on the radio and we nearly crashed the car we were laughing so hard!
-
-
Update: Now our AP is online, and both AP & AOS had a touch on May 16!
-
OK -- my husband had his biometrics taken in Oakland yesterday, and today I see the I-485 online (but not the AP or EAD, oddly).
So we're making some progress!
My husband had bio in oakland yesterday to Ill check to see if ours is online.... AP and EAD have been for about 2 weeks
Heh! His appointment was at 3PM -- he said there were maybe three people in the place! Was your guy one of them?

Hey there --
We got a letter from the bank, that opens with:
"The Internal Revenue Service requires all financial institutions to maintain proper certification and documentation of foreign status on all Non Resident Alien (NRA) interest bearing accounts. Our records indicate, that some or all of the certification we need to certify your Non Resident Alien status, is missing or unclear."
And it includes a W-8BEN form. On the form, it says "Do Not Use This Form for: - A U.S. citizen or other U.S. person, including a resident alien individual."
Anyone else get one of these? What to do?
What is your status... resident alien or non-resident alien?
I'm the USC -- my husband came over on a K-1 visa, we got married, and we're currently adjusting his status, so this is where I get stuck. He's on the road to being a permanent resident alien, no? Is he in some sort of weird netherworld, bureaucratically speaking? He's happy to pay US taxes (they're a lot lower than where he's from!).

We've *still* not received our NOA for the I-765.
Then you should contact USCIS them because you have the case number listed on the biometrics appointment letter and they can research it more easily, and they should be able to check if it got lost or else.
Hmmm, the biometrics appointment letter lists the I-485, and nothing else. I don't have a number for the EAD. It'd be easier if I could look this up online, but it seems he has to get his biometrics taken before it appears on the USCIS site. (At least that's what seems to be happening with some folk.)
We're fortunate in that he's not desperate for work, but I am just puzzled.

We got our biometrics appointment letter in the mail yesterday -- the appointment's for April 29! Still no NOA for the EAD, though.
-
Hmmm. Still no NOA for our EAD, and the AOS and AP aren't showing up online yet.
Guess we'll just sit tight.
-
We received our NOA1 for the I-485 and the I-131, but not for the I-765 -- should I be worried? It seems like they should all come in one batch....
-
Check was cashed! YAY!
We can read 10 of the 13 case numbers on the scan of the check -- BOO! I've logged into ICIS and tried all sorts of number variations, but no soap. Grrrrr.
Question for recent interviewees...
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas

Our interviewer left the room, but he was actually making copies. If he was secretly observing us, he only heard some boring chit chat about how hot it was going to be that day.
