  1. Good morning everyone, I know I have been missing for quite sometime, but I received my greencard yesterday in the mail. The crazy thing is that I did not get any update on the USCIS website indicating that I was approved, card was going to be sent for production, etc. It has and still is stuck on my interview date. I only knew yesterday early morning that a mail was already on its way from USCIS when I finally decided to check the USPS informed delivery app.

To those who have applied for a Ssn recently : how long did it take to receive it in the mail ? Was it regular mail ??

Also, were you able to get your number at the office itself ??

When I had applied for mine, I asked the lady if it was possible to get the number now, and she said no I would have to wait until I get it by mail. I received my ssn by mail exactly 1week 1 day. I can't remember if it was priority or just regular.

It is now the waiting game I guess. I am in Orange County, California, so my local field office is Santa Ana. I just looked here :https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/processTimesDisplayInit.do for the processing dates, it shows that for I-485, this office is processing case as of 7/28/2016. The confusing thing is, there's two dates on that page, one is 2/28/2017, the other one is 4/18/2017. Which one is the page updated date? I wonder how recent they refresh this page.

The 04/18/2017 would be the page update actually. Based on my observation I would say that they have the "as of date" a few months back to accurately quote based on their logs from all the different local offices. It could also mean that each local offices does a report on a monthly basis or so.

Yes, i have it. So far , I've only done the first 4 parts , not the marathon yet. I was actually curious to see how good of an app it was since no one around me knows about it .Thank you !

@Brandja @Bronxnyc Do you take the written test on the same day you go to the DMV or do they give you an appointment at a later date ?? I'd love to just be able to go and do the test all at once since I'd still be on vacation by the time I go apply.

    You're welcome!!

Once you go in on the day you'll be able to do the written test. You don't have to have an appointment, (I didn't, I just went early before they opened).

If you already know how to drive you can do both the written and the driving test for the E license on the sameday. If you have an appointment or not to do the written test, you can let them know that if you pass you'd like to do the driving test on the same day at the dmv. I think there will be some dmv that don't do the driving test, so you should choose to do the written test at the one that does both at the same place.

Yes, as soon as this Ssn arrives, I'm going for my learners permit( written test).

Okay awesome, do you know of this app called DMV Genie? It is a superb app that I'd recommend. I personally used it and learnt so much. It is basically testing on every possible sections that dmv would ask from. I read the dmv book to be on the safe side but to be fair you really don't have to, but I'd recommend reading the book to just have a thorough understanding. But you could check it out

The security line was long but according to hubby, it's usually worst ( all the way outside).

It still took me less than an hour , 98% of it being waiting . I was told I should received it within 2 weeks. Next : the DMV 😳😳😳!!

Aww I would say your wait wasn't too bad compared to others!

Hey are you going to take the written exam at the dmv?

Why did it take so long ??

I'm on vacation for another 2 weeks, I'd love to have it soon so I can go pass my learners permit before the end of my vacation.I do have an Itin so hopefully I'm in the system somewhat.

@Brandja Currently in line !! I went to the wrong office earlier, it was beyond empty. Arrived at the right one and it is , well, a new experience for me lol 😂 ! I'm just hoping most people go to a different office after security.

Hahaha I felt the same when I got there for the first time!! Luckily the security guard came and asked for all those who are applying for a new or replacement card to step out of line and form a new line. I was in and out in no time!! :dancing:

She said she is going to order the greencard to expect it in 10 business days. My status hasn't been updated online yet.

    Great. Thanks for your help.

My husband's kid was wondering if I would get the actual number on the day, as she got her number before the card came (she's usc but 22 and only just applied), but I'm guessing it's maybe different for immigrants.

Lol maybe different for us, but it never hurts to try. I did try and the lady said "unfortunately I would have to wait until the card arrives."

But maybe you'd have the better luck, so give it a shot.

Wow, maybe it does depend on the state but you must've been grateful for your friends advice. I will take a bank statement just in case.

I was wondering how long it takes to get the ssn?

    Lol always good to ask.

I applied for mine on a Thursday,  and got the card in the mail the next Friday. (8 days wait for me).

They will advice you that it should arrive in 2 weeks time.

Thank you Brandja. I hadn't read about proof of address. I'm guessing something like a bank statement is what they're looking for?

EDIT: Or is my address on the USCIS paperwork ok too?

In all honesty i never read about it either, but a friend told me to, and when I went the lady asked for it. I did use a bank statement.

I live in Florida, so I'm not sure if every state does it, but I had to present mine.

I'm going to apply for a SSN tomorow. Kinda excited.

As far as I can tell I need to take my passport, the employment card and I'm guessing I-485 receipt.

Can anyone who has already done this confirm that? My I-94 has expired so I guess they wont need that.

Okay that's a good step, definitely something to be excited about. What you will need is your work permit (EAD), passport and a proof of address.

You don't need the I-485 receipt nor your expired I-94 but do walk with them to be on the safe side.
