  1. Today I had my AOS interview at the Sacramento office. The day didn't get off to a great start because traffic was atrocious. We arrived basically on the dot. I was worried because I had heard they observe you in the waiting room so I thought it wouldn't bode well if they saw us arrive in a full sprint. We basically waited for 10 minutes and then were called in. The officer was very pleasant and directed each of us to sit in a particular spot. He asked for a bit of paperwork including our taxes, my SSN (along with the paper it was mailed with) and our passports and drivers licenses. He asked if we lived at the same address and questioned why my spouse hadn't changed his DL to reflect that. (who wants to visit the DMV if you don't have to - and it's not due until September?!) Anyway, we brought a photo album that we made ourselves containing pics of our many travels. The officer asked how we met and where. What we each did for a living, our own dates of birth. He remarked that it looks like we've had a lot of fun on our trips. He left the room to take copies of the taxes etc. and our photos. When he returned, he said that we were approved and explained the procedures to remove the conditions of the green card in two years. He shook our hands and congratulated us - I'm not sure if on the marriage or the approval but he seemed genuinely happy for us and wished us well. Overall, we were in there for 30 minutes from the time we arrived. 15 minutes after we left, the status on the USCIS website updated to "card is ordered" and later in the day it said "case is approved." I am just so ecstatic that we weren't interrogated or even questioned separately for that matter. I would have to say it was the best experience I've ever had in my dealings with USCIS so far. I feel so badly for you other couples who are getting the runaround and have such terrible delays with the EAD. Hopefully once you are called for an interview, the process will proceed a lot more smoothly. My app said that today is my day 198 from the day of filing. Thank goodness this stage is complete.

Hey guys quick question. Does it really take 2 weeks for you to recieve your social security number after applying? I just got my EAD card and went to apply for it yesterday and I was told it will take them 2 weeks before I recieved my actual card. Did anyone of you recieved it earlier than 2 weeks? Or is it really the standard waiting time and you got it exactly at 2 weeks time?

    Thanks guys!

I got mine in less than a week after applying. If you go back the next day they can read the number off the screen for you to write down until the card comes in. This is all assuming you are in the SAVE database to cross reference your ID. If not, add a few weeks to the process

    Are you Canadian?

My biggest concern is going back into Canada at one of the land borders in NY.  CBSA has always given me grief and sends me into secondary to search my car and that was after short trips to the US to visit my now husband.  I don't want to have to deal with a headache there explaining why I've been in the US since October just so I can go have lunch with my mom in the Falls.

Yes I am Canadian and I've been in the US since Sept. I actually cleared customs in Canada because of the pre-clearance thing at the airport. I did get taken to secondary just to check my docs and nothing was searched.

  4. Just wanted to give an update on activity since approval of my EAD on Feb 15th, and receipt on Feb 23.... I went to SSA on Feb 23 and applied for a number, I was already in SAVE, they said if I came back the next day I could get the number.... returned on Feb 24 and voila! I have a SSN. Went down to the DMV in CA on Feb 24th to finalize my license (had already taken the written and road test), gave them my SSN and showed the EAD, they ran me in SAVE again, tada! License complete. I received the SSN card Feb 28 and my DL today Mar 2. I'm so excited to have everything finally working! Well everything except me that is, lol. Still job hunting! Best wishes to everyone still waiting for progress... things will move quickly once you get that EAD, don't worry. :)

Their timeline says "Original I-131 was filed Nov 14th with I-765, I-485.Rejected for "incorrect fee." Not correct: no fee needed for concurrent filing. Re-filed with explanation & Expedite due to financial reasons back home". Happened to quite a few ppl around the mid November from what I've seen on the app. (Cases close to my case number)

Yup that's my story. I tried to file for both at the same time but I only had grounds to expedite the AP.

  6. I am AOS from a B2 visa and my EAD is approved (should be in the mail this week). Does anyone know how long it takes the SAVE database to be updated to reflect this? I want to get my SSN asap but I want to bypass that whole manual verification step that can take weeks. Anyone have success after a week? Should I wait longer?

I think it means they're working on it... or hopefully have pulled it towards the top of the pile. I received this email confirming my SR and 2 days later my status said the card has been ordered. Good luck!

  8. Hi there

I was browsing the forum looking for anyone who might have had issues with the I-131 being rejected for the incorrect fee. I filed the I-485, I-765, I-131 and my spouse's I-130 concurrently to the Chicago Lockbox all within the same envelope AND with a cover sheet showing the contents. Although it clearly states that the fee for the I-131 is waived if filed together, mine was still rejected. Apparently it's been happening a lot --the agents not marrying up the documents properly before they get shipped off to the National centres for processing.

If I can offer any advice to spare you the hassles I'm currently going through, you may consider using a post it note or something on your I-131 application to reference the fact that it was filed at the same time as the I-485. Otherwise once it goes for processing, they'll look for a cheque, won't find one because it's gone with the I-485 and possibly reject your application for no reason. And note, they did accept the other applications just fine and cashed both the application fee and biometrics fee so obviously we did submit the correct fees.
