  1. This is an interesting question and one that I wanted to post recently but didn't in fear of getting into an argument.

As a practical matter, if wearing the hijab (and conservative dress) is required for salat, it seems like woman should just wear it all day. It just seems easier that way.

But from what I've read I've gotten so many conflicted answers about whether or not it's required or not that I've decided to give up trying to answer that question for myself until I am further along in the conversion process.

Someone did mention in a post that a woman (in the U.S.) wearing hijab receives more attention than women who don't. And for me that's kind of a sticking point, because I think the whole point of hijab is to protect the woman and give her respectability, and if it fails to do that in a particular culture, then I personally don't think the woman should wear it.

I remember reading someone's interpretation of quran which stated that the quran asks women to cover their bosoms and dress modestly. Modesty is interepred differently in many cultures; what's appropriate in one is not appropriate in others. Because of the debate that has surrounded this issue, it seems like the quran was vague and maybe this was for a reason.

Of course, maybe I'm one of those people who are interpretting the quran to suit my needs, becuase I don't want to wear hijab. i'm not sure yet. That's why I've decided to set aside that issue and concentrate on the more important aspects of islam.

I appreciate everyone's answers about this issue!

  2. Certified copy of the marriage certificate is an official legal copy made by your department of vital statistics, court house, or department that issues them. You send an ordinary copy in with the I-485 not your original certified one, keep the original certified one for your interview.

You don't need a translation of the passport, just make a copy of the biographic page.

    cool thanks.

oh and his passport doesn't have english. i guess it depends on the country. his is arabic and french.

  3. We just applied for the SSN and I'm assuming when it comes it will say "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION" or something like that. When will my husband be able to get a regular SS Card? Is that after he has his permanent residence card? Can he show his residence card to the SS office to get a new card? I know it will be a while before that happens, but I'm just curious.

    Thanks.

  4. We went to the SS office today and the person I spoke with said his SS card, as long as it does not say "not authorized for work" will be enough proof of eligibility to work.

If you get a driver's license (to establish identity in column B) and your SSN (that shows you're authorized to work), then that would be enough I think?

I think the real problem is getting something from column b, to prove identity, because foreign passports, identity cards, etc are not allowed.

  5. I've heard about reputations about men from every place in Morocco, from my fiance and other Moroccans I've met. Men from Rabat are liars, people from Casablanca are thieves, Marrakech guys will kill their best friend over a girl, and also some other ones that aren't really appropriate for a public forum! Anyway, it doesn't necessarily mean it's true.

What is the reputation of men from Erfoud?

here's the answer I got (from a guy who spent a few years in Erfoud). "they can **** even the animals, and they hate people from other parts of Morocco." I almost died laughing when I heard that!

wow, this one gets the award for crossing the line.

    I couldnt agree more.

That's messed up. I'm glad you got a good laugh.

I think he was joking to say, "there's no point in making assumptions about people because you know they're not true." The guy lived there for a while, so you don't talk bad about a place that was a part of you too, you know? It's so over the top that I thought people would automatically know that it wasn't ment to be serious. But I guess humor and sarcasm don't really translate well over the internet. So if anyone was offended, I apolgoize.

  8. I'm afraid Hamid is going to lose weight because he doesn't like a lot of the food here, and he's already a little thin, because of some medication he recently took. He's a picky eater (IMO) and I'm not sure what I should do to get him to gain a few pounds!! ( I do like those 6 pack abs though! hehe)

  9. Does anyone have any experience replacing the i-94?? how long does it normally take? He's only been here two days and we can't find it at all!!!!

He has an i-94 stapled inside his passport, but is this the i-94 needed for applying for the SSN???

    Thanks for any info!

  10. This email is from the lady I talked to at DOS who said she would do the inquiry. I'm ashamed to admit I got tearful when I talked to her. She was really a saint and went the extra mile. God bless her. There is a man in Egypt who is absolutely bouncing off the walls tonight.

I hope the congratulations aren't premature. If that kicks off another name hit we both are gonna DIE. If not, he should have it by Tuesday or Wednesday and we're going to try to get him here ASAP. If not next weekend, the following one. Enshaa Allah. (If I don't say that, he'll kick my butt.)

Congratulations!! Can't wait to hear when it will finally be IN HAND! :star:

Don't be ashamed to get tearful!! I did the same thing after someone hung up on me midsentence at Casa! Called back, got the same person who hung up on me, who was then kind enough to let me talk/cry to someone else who was from the right department!

While their email wasn't as personal as the one you got (no soon you will be together, but hey this is Casa we're talking about!), I did get an email from them the day they issued the visa! :luv:

  11. I thought of another adjustment..if you've read the other thread, you'll know what I'm talking about. Adjusting to ~ finding humor in something, sharing it, and getting a lecture for 45 minutes as to why it was not funny at all! hehehehehehe the hubster is so adorable sometimes.... I have had my fair share of lessons in good vs bad.. He just has a different take on things than I do sometimes.

All I have to say is
