If child is living with you legally in US when you naturalized he is already a citizen. No point changing the green card now.

I don’t know about the name change issues, but you can apply for a passport directly with evidence of your naturalization and proof of custody, instructions are in the passport instructions. N600 is advisable too but not absolutely necessary if you have a passport.  I applied for a passport for my child along with my own the same day I naturalized.

fyi other experiences of passport/child passport applications are discussed here https://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/158-passports-etc-what-to-do-now-that-you-are-a-us-citizen/

    Thank you for your response.

My son was not here yet when I was naturalized. I petitioned him after my naturalization. He only has green card now.

Can I apply directly for his passport but we will provide the name change decree from court?

  2. Hello VJ family,

I am a Mom and naturalized citizen to a minor child. He has the last name of his biological father as shown on the birth certificate. He got here and got his green card with last name same as his birth certificate.

After he got here, I already changed his Last name to match my Married name. We have here the Last name change decree on hand.

What will be the next process for him to obtain the US passport?

Do I need to have his Last name changed on the green card first then apply for N-600? And then, apply for US Passport? Please advise. Have a blessed day all!

I grabbed that info some time back, I keep it on my website ..    I didn't find that statement on the USEM website just now, their new website update moved a lot of things.

I did fine notice on the Dept of State website, that pretty much states the same thing:

" If the child is an orphan, or both parents are outside the Philippines, a legal guardian must accompany the child."

    http://www.ustraveldocs.com/ph/ph-svc-visachild.asp

    Gotcha!

Will that be okay to just also have his grandmother accompany him to the interview? So basically, it's him, my sis-in-law/his aunt and his grandmother?

    From USEM:

**Guardian Accompanying Minor to Interview:  You will need an affidavit of guardianship in the guardian's name stating what capacity they have.  Signed and notarized.

    Thank you, Hank! 😃

I was not able to locate this in any website. Would u be able to share the link where u get this info from?

That only happens if the child is lawfully present in the USA at the time the parent naturalizes. If the child is overseas, he/she needs an IR-2 visa but will become a USC immediately upon arrival, once admitted into the USA.

    That is correct JFH! 😃

Will that be okay he will be accompanied by my sis-in-law during the interview?

    Hi Guys!

I received my NOA2 on 5/30 and the USCIS tracker updated and said my file was sent to NVC on 6/14.

I've been calling everyday and they have yet to receive it. Should I keep calling every day or is there a letter I should wait for?

    Thanks

When NVC receives the case, they don't notify us.

My NOA2 was May 8th. I called NVC for the first time this week & said they received my case on May 14th. It could take up to 8weeks to be assigned for case #.

Ours took 8 weeks and 2 days. I called everyday on the 7th week and they kept saying to call after the 8 weeks ( last Friday 6/15 was our 8 week mark). I called Monday and they asked if I wanted the case to be sent to supervisor and I said no that i'd give it a few more days. Called on Tuesday and got our case number, still no email or mail.

Why do they have to send it to the supervisor?

  9. My I-130 was approved on May 8th, Potomac.

First time to call NVC yesterday. I called twice yesterday and received the same info. They received my case on May 14 (I know they don't send notice that they received it). There is no Case# yet or even invoice#. It can take up to 8 weeks. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

But I would still try to call them 2-3x a week.

Oh my, you just responded to me and I thought you were someone else.  So my message back earlier might not have made total sense.

So you filed at k1 visa in Texas but now are ok i130 track at Potomac and just got noa2?

Long story short, that K-1 was filed by my fiance (my current husband) and sent to Texas in 2012.

This time I filed the i-130 for my son, unmarried under age 21. I'm USC and my service center was at Potomac. I received email & text notifications yesterday and also the NOA2 in the mail that the petition is approved. Notice Date is 5/2/18. 😃 Hope this helps.

Is your I130 at Potomac or Texas?  I am really hoping Potomac but your timeline says service center is Texas.  Thanks!  And Congratulations!!!🎊

It was in Texas when filing the K-1 Visa.

I did not create a timeline for this I-130. My service center is at Potomac.

    PD: Nov 8, 2017

I also received the NOA2 today with notice date 5/2/2018. :)
