    I'm similar in that I want to option to move abroad without fearing losing the right to return after 6 months. The only downside I can see is the IRS requires tax returns regardless where you live and work. I believe it's not a problem in most countries as there are agreements to avoid double taxing income from work but, if you sell property and make a profit, you'll might be liable to pay capital gains in the US even though the house was in, say, London (the reason Boris Johnson gave up his US citizenship was because of this). You might like to ask a tax expert for advice on this. Good luck!
