You have been so helpful thank you!  One more question???

When should the fees be paid.  Do they need to be paid before scheduling the appointment.

    You are welcome! :)

You have to pay the fee at GT Bank first or you cannot make an appointment or fill out the DS160 form. You pay the medical fees on the day you go for the exam.

She lives in Accra, Ghana.  Got the WAC receipt Dec. 20th, 2016.  I live in Iowa.  Keith

-So far we started this in Dec 2016.  Got the Receipt number on Dec 20th.

-May 22nd was approved to go to US Embassy in Ghana

-Called the NVC in July and they said they received July 13th in Ghana.

-Completed the DS-160 Form today 7-26-17.  Never asked me about the fees on this form.

    - Now I need to pay the fees

    Asking you these questions:

? Medical Report - What page do I need to take to do the medical report.

We have the police report already!

? Do we do the medical and after that make the appt for the interview?

My email is kpoolman3@gmail.com if that would be easier.

Thank you for all your help.

You have to prove that you have an appointment at the embassy for an interview to get your medical done. So, make your appointment first. But, make it out a few weeks to allow enough time to get your medical back (It can take up to 4 weeks). Print out the page that confirms your appointment after you make your appointment to take to the medical place. You have to have the sealed report with you when you go to the interview or they can deny your visa for that.

Wow. You have been waiting that long?!?!? That is HORRIBLE!!! :(

What you need to do is pay the visa fee $265 US (double check to make sure that amount hasn't changed) at GT Bank and they will give you a receipt. Then go online and fill out the DS160. You will need your receipt number from GT Bank. Once you have the DS160 filled out go online and schedule your interview with the embassy. You will need the DS160 number they give you at the end of the application. You will need to print out your confirmation page of your scheduled appointment to take to your medical to get that done. It takes a few weeks to get the medical back so make sure you schedule your appointment out far enough to allow time for that. Also, make sure you go get your police report. If you have any questions please feel free to inbox me and I will be more than happy to help!!!

Thank you very much for responding.  The NVC said the file has been at the US Embassy in Ghana since July 13th and we still have not heard.  Will we hear by email or mail?

The embassy received our information from the NVC on March 23rd, 2017 and we still never got anything from them. We waited over two months before we just went ahead and did the medical, police report, ds160, etc on our own and scheduled our interview. Many people never received anything from the embassy nd did it this way and was approved. I even emailed them and they told me they would mail the information to my fiancé in Ghana. He never got anything. It has happened a lot to others in this forum for those in Ghana. If they have your information and you are wanting your interview sooner than later, I highly suggest doing everything on your own and scheduling the appointment. The letter they send you just states what you need to do to schedule your appointment aka medical, police report, ds160, fee at gt bank. Nothing special about the letter.

Thank you for the reply.  Very much appreciated!  How do you get a police report from South Africa without going there???

I have no idea. I would google the police department where your fiance lived in SA and try to contact them. Goodluck!

Hello, I have a question,  my fiance is in Ghana, we sit waiting on our approval. What tests are conducted in Ghana for the k1 visa?

What do you mean by tests? You just need to do your medical exam, get police report and pay visa fee to schedule your interview.

This is very confusing. Do I really need the letter from the NVC?? The US embassy has already gotten my case and I have not gotten a letter from the NVC. Do I really need this letter so that my fiancee can do her medical exams??

I never needed my letter from the NVC for anything. She just needs the proof of appointment made for interview at the embassy for her medical. But this was for the embassy in Ghana. It may be different if in another country.

Thanks for this piece. This is all the information i needed. We have been thinking the embassy would rather schedule him for the interview, not knowing its the other way round. The 265 dollar visa fees has been paid at Gt bank..My fiancee tried to go get the medicals  done and they said they need an appointment letter from the embassy before they could proceed. At this point i am very confused.I thought this was gonna be less stressfull

Nothing about this process is non-stressful. I know your struggles! You are correct you have to schedule your appointment first before you can get your medicals done. I forgot that! Sorry!! Just schedule your interview out a few weeks to allow time for the medicals to come back. Ours took 2.5 weeks. Make sure though you fill out DS160 first and then schedule the interview. You can print out the confirmations to take to get medical done.

OH OK,do u know how long it took to get packet 3 after nvc forwarded the approved application to the consulate.Sorry  i am asking too many questions.I am very nervous

We never got anything from the Ghana Embassy and a lot of others didn't either. We followed a lot of advice I got on this site and went ahead and scheduled our interview online and did everything else too. We were approved and had no issues. You have to pay the visa fee at GT Bank before you can schedule an interview. Pay the fee, fill out ds160 online, schedule interview online. You want to make sure you have your medical and police report first before you schedule the interview because it can take up to 4 weeks to get your medical back. Unless, there are appointments available a month or more out. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. Goodluck!

I'm so happy you both were approved! Congratulations!!!

I hope it isn't too much trouble to ask, but, where did you make your appointment online for your interview? My fiancé has filled out his DS-160, and we want to make sure that he can schedule an interview as soon as possible.

Any information you may have is greatly appreciated.

Thank you! We went here to schedule our appointment for interview.

Can we just schedule the interview after we get the medical and police report back?

They asked my fiance for his confirmation when he went. He can always just go up there and see. It shouldnt take more than 2 weeks to get back.

So pay the fee first at GT bank then go for the medical when should you do the DS-160 before or after the medical? And is the DS-160 the same thing as applying for the visa ? Because you have to apply for the visa online to right ?

Pay the fee first. On the recepit will be a recepit number. You need that to fill out the DS160 which is part of the visa process. Fill out DS160 then schedule interview appt because you will need ds160 confirmation to schedule interview. Then go to medical. You will get a confimation of Ds160 and interview once you fill them both out. Then take those to medical. Medical can take anywhere from a week to 4 weeks to get back so make sure you schedule your appt out far enough for that. Same with police report, it can take awhile to get back.

For anyone who has done there medical appointment in Accra Ghana prior to their visa interview. Did you have to call Holy trinity or Akai clinic to make an appointment or do they accept walk ins ?

You can just walk in but you have to have your proof of appt at the embassy first before they will see you.

I have another question. So is there supposed to be a form that he has to fill out of someone representing him? I feel like there is so much that I am missing. Did you ever receive any of the packets?

I think that is not for K-1 visa's. That's if you are applying for your spouse. We did nothing like that. It is a lot to take in I know! No, we never got our packet from the Ghana embassy. His interview is on June 6th. I have triple checked everything and used all our resources on VJ. So hopefully, all will go well and he will be approved!

Thank you for your advice.  So we cannot go and get a police report before we get the OK?

I think you can get the police report. It is valid for 6 months. You have to have your interview confirmation sheet for the medical though.

Thank you very much.  We just got approved last Friday and they will send the 129F and all information to NVC.  I already did the DS-160 and have a number but since they have not received anything yet I guess I will have to wait.  Another question:  I have figured out all the documents and no what I have to do going forward when they give the OK.  Do I need an agent???  I don't think I do but please let me know what you think!  Otherwise she lived in South Africa for 2 years and I think we are going to have to get the police report from there also.  Not sure.

I think we will go ahead with the police in Ghana.  We are 2 to 4 weeks from the US Embassy having all of her information and then they will tell about the getting the medical report.  Anything we can do to make this faster would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

It will take a while for NVC to get your information and process it. Took our application about a month and that seems to be about the norm. Ghana is supposed to send your fiancée a letter with the steps to get an interview (DS-160, Medical, Police Report, etc.) But, it seems a lot of people are not getting those letters including us. Through VJ we found out all the information we needed and went ahead and scheduled our appointment. But you can not schedule it till NVC has sent your application to Ghana and they have received it. After that you will just need your DS-160 confirmation number and to pay the fee at GT Bank. Then you can schedule your interview at the embassy online. I am not sure what a agent is? We didn't use any type of agent and I haven't heard of anyone else doing that either. You can surely do everything yourself if things are straight forward.

You know what we did that and he was able to schedule his interview. Thank goodness. So he will make his appointment for medical also. This stuff is so confusing. Thanks for the advice. My son and I plan on coming out there at the end of June for a month. We are so excited. We just said forget it if they deny us then at least we will be there and we will just get married there and file for cr1. But I want to have a clear conscience until then.

Oh good!! I am so happy you were able to do that. Either way enjoy your time there and GOODLUCK!! :)

I am sorry to deviate from the current discussion but I have read on this forum that, after your case is sent to department of state, you need to call NVC for a case #, scan date and identification #.....is that necessary? and what are they for? Or I just wait for the letter with instructions.....your help will be much appreciated. Thanks

You have to wait for your case # etc from NVC after they send you a letter with that info they send your application to the embassy. Then the embassy is supposed to send a letter with further instructions. But a lot of the VJ members in Ghana are not getting those letters.

  19. We never received our letter from the embassy in Ghana either. Through the posts here on VJ I found out that we could schedule or interview and everything without the letter from them. Our approval expires next month too. I would try emailing them and asking if that will be a problem. I emailed them and they responded the next morning.

If you filed your DS-160 then just go to GT Bank and pay the $265 visa fee. They will give you a receipt. You can use that receipt number and your confirmation code from submitting your DS-160 to schedule your interview online. That's what we did. You will also need to gather your police report and medical before you have your interview and will need your interview confirmation date for the medical. Hope this helps! Goodluck!

  20. You can get the police report no problem. It is valid for 6 months and I do believe that you need to get one from SA too. But, I am not 100% sure about that.

For the medical you will need to have your confirmation page from scheduling your appointment. If your case has been sent to Ghana from NVC you can schedule your appointment yourself before you get the letter. The letter the embassy sends from Ghana is only informational. Just go online and fill out the DS-160 application. When you finish it will give you a confirmation code. You will need that to go to GT Bank to pay the visa appointment fee. One you have paid that you can schedule your appointment online with the embassy and get your medical done. But, you first have to have your receipt confirmation code and DS-160 code before you can schedule. Hope this helps! Goodluck!

  21. I have had no response to my email either. SMH! How much did you pay at GT Bank and where did he go to do his medical and how much did you pay for that? I would love to get this ball rolling as soon as possible. Thank you for your help in advance!!!
