  1. It HAS been in the news here, although it is hardly the top of the news. The main thing that has been mentioned is the drafting in of local police officers to "maintain peace".

That is the main point. There aren't hundreds of people involved (which to me constitutes a riot) just a few "gangs" in a part of Windsor. Basically it is a right Royal pain in the #######...

  2. I watched an interview on TV today about this matter. The ex-commander of the Flying Squad (of which the diplomatic protection squad are part of) was being interviewed. Apparently an officer applies to be part of the Flying Squad, knowing FULL WELL what the job entails and knowing WHO he might have to protect.

What was basically said in the interview is that this fellow should have been transferred out of the squad when he could no longer carry out his duties. He would then return to normal Met Police duties instead.

The Flying Squad is a highly sought after job, this fellow HAD A CHOICE when he asked to become part of it. If he wasn't happy at certain aspects then he shouldn't have applied.

  3. Well, everybody it has all gone a bit pear shaped to be honest.

I got a letter from the consulate today saying that they needed further evidence from my son's father before they could issue the visa.

They need a letter with him stating he has no objection to my son immigrating to the USA to live permanantly. It also has to be notarised. Now getting something notarised in Britain means you have to see a special solicitor and pay a nice fee. Anybody have any experience with British notaries?

I know there will be no problems getting his Dad to sign this...just him finding the time to do it. He works very long hours and him being able to get to the notary in the first place is just going to be a pain. He'll probably moan at me a bit and make a fuss. All stress that I can REALLY do without. Plus it is just more of a delay. I am probably looking at another week to ten days at least before it is all sorted.

What gets me more is that I actually took a letter with me saying something similar...but it wasn't notarised. It said in packet four that if you are divorced and the child is subject to a custody agreement THEN you need a letter...but we were never married and there is no custody agreement. I'm all for parental rights but this seems a little OTT.

Damn...why does everything have to be so frickin' complicated? I have to admit, after the initial feelings of euphoria I'm now RIGHT back down in the dumps.

    Ho bloody hum! :(

  4. You know you can still get denied don't you.

Yeah, thanks for that. I'm not stupid y'know.

That was supposed to be funny. It was not meant to imply you're stupid.

    :D

    Bit I um stoopid rielly...LOL

  5. Hehe, cuddlypumpkin.

Congrats to you Sian (and Larry as well) on your approval!

Thanks! It is a HUGE relief.

Ooh and Cuddlypumpkin is only the beginning.....mwahahahaha!

  6. I would agree with that  same as me and hubby only Im the pisces. Im a big believer in astrology and this time I wanted my Cancer.

My first marriage was pisces/pisces.....more then interesting...was a disaster lol

Second marriage was pisces/virgo.......really were total opposites and they definately didnt end up attracting hahahaha

Aye, Cian is Cancer and I am Pisces. It IS the perfect match.

Two of my previous relationships were Pisceans. Not particularly disasters but just...bland. No ooommph. No spark, no...nothing. Just faded into nothingness.

Anyway, I'm VERY happy with my Cancer, loving, caring and with a fantastic sense of humour too. You can't beat a Cancer/Pisces combo.

  7. My "friend" has a fiancee from England who will be attending a party in Wales on Halloween. My friend's fiancee will be dressed in a somewhat sexy manner (depending on your tastes....think "Morticia"), and has been known to drink too much at times. Since it is a bit of distance from London to Wales, and the fiancee doesn't drive, she will be staying at the host's house.

My "friend" has no reservations about it at all, and hopes that his fiancee has a good time at the party. He trusts her completely, and only regrets that he can't be at the party with her.

My friend doesn't worry about "what ifs" in regard to infidelity. Doing so implies a lack of trust, and as mentioned, he has no trust issues with his fiancee.

Well, to me it sounds as if your friend's fiancee is a lucky girl in that you trust her so much. Ah nuts to all this "my friend" "your friends" hullaballoo. Glad you trust me Snookydimple :P . Of course, the party is also being filmed and being put onto YouTube. It is also going to be full of Welsh people, so even if I WANTED to pull someone, I'd be in competition with all those darned sheep.

Btw, "has been known to drink too much at times"???? Cheeky buggar!

To the OP, let her go, you either trust her or you don't. If you don't then what sort of start to a relationship is this? Look at it this way, if she DOES get off with someone and you find out about it then at least you know NOW, rather than 10 years down the line....

    Just my opinion.

  8. A friend of mine bought her wedding dress in the UK and was getting married in South Africa. She was not able to take the dress in the cabin with her...but she WAS allowed to put it in the front hold. This is the area underneath the captain where the flight crew put all of their belongings.

All that happens is that they take the dress from you as you board and then they return it to you as you leave the aircraft.

What this is like for transatlantic flights I don't know...but it IS worth a try if you have exhausted all other options.

  9. Actually, you're right, it did say evidence of engagement. Sorry, my brain is still a bit fuzzy with all the stress of the last week or so.

It does seem odd that you were asked so much, you obviously have been together far longer than Cian and I and yet I was asked for no evidence at all.

I guess it is luck of the draw with the interviewer really. Mine was really nice and chatty. She had a soft American accent and had dark hair tied back in a long ponytail. Quite a bit of makeup. Dark suit.

Hope you get it all sorted soon.

By the way, I wish to add that to any people due an interview soon DO NOT USE THE MAP PROVIDED! It is the biggest pile of ####### I have ever seen. Go onto Multimap and print yourself off a copy of how to get to Grosvenor Square from there.

If you use that map, the potential to get lost is huge...

  10. Hello all,

Thought I'd better introduce myself... :P

I'll admit that this forum used to freak me out a little, mainly because I was so bloody scared of the whole visa process and being denied. But now I have been approved I can finally relax a little...

Okay, so I'm the one who adores that old (young!), grumpy fart who is very outspoken and likes to get his point across, yup Cian or PlatyPius or Cuddlypumpkin (he'll kill me for that...LOL).

Anyhoo, hello all. *does the waving thing*

  11. Actually, on one of the forms that you filled in with packet 3 (DS-230 part 1?) it says at the bottom, in a box above where you sign, all the things that must be presented with the form. Birth cert, police certs etc and evidence of relationship.

Granted it doesn't say anything in your packet 3 checklist (or the reminder list with packet 4) nor did my interviewer at the embassy today ask me for any evidence of mine and PlatyCian's relationship, but it does say it on that form. So it is actually mentioned, albeit not very obviously.

But if you're reading through the forms when you fill them in, and considering later on you will sign them, you should read it all through very carefully. After all you could be signing your life away... :P
