@Sweet V, thanks for sharing I thought I was the only one struggling with the transition. I relocated from my country with a bachelor in education, a literacy specialist and years of experience and im stilI struggling to find a job in my field. Having gotten numerous promises from persons in the field ( oh how selfish and self centered we can be ) I was encouraged by many that teachers are in demand in New York, but the process of getting your qualifications accredited here is like starting over. I'm working on doing so and in the process I did a course in a field I have no interest in; but had to just to earn. I'm so grateful for my family for holding me down....

I began doing a little networking with a few persons who have migrated as well and struggling. We  share info regarding work, school etc. 

To my vj family please plan ahead and have a goal in mind prior to your arrival. All the best going forward.

I live in Manhattan as well. I arrived in the 20th of Janauary. Got my SS in two weeks but my green card arrived the ending of March. Hang on it will soon arrive

The Dos number is the same as the case number. It begins with three letters followed by the numbers

@blessedchild, you will get an email from US Dos system that will inform you when your package has been delivered to DHL and another with the tracking number. 

Hey Guys,  i landed safely.  POE was good. I just showed them my packet and i was sent to an Officer.  He only asked me to confirm my address.  Took my fingerprint. And pic and said everything looks ok. Stamp my passport and said good look. Im now awaiting my social security number and green card.  Good luck everyone 

Also, wouldn't it be illegal for the father to claim benefits for the child and not take care of her? ......................

Another question. Could the Jamaican mother reapply fro the US passport if it had expired. I'm thinking she is going to need the father. And if so 9 out 10 he wont.

The child lives with the mother here in jamaica. The father had the child in the states but  took the child back to Jamaica but did not give the mother the travel documents. He has both her passports (US/JA)

She is unsure what to do. To reapply how does she gives account for the passports. They are not lost or stolen, the father refuses to give them up

@Boiler, the child was born in Jamaica. When she was about three the father a USC got her a US passport.

Good Day VJers,

Im hoping to get some help for a friend. My friend has an 8yrs old daughter, when she was three her father USC applied for a US passport for her. The child has travelled to the US twice to be with the father. The parenst are separated and the father refuses to give the mother the child's passport. The child has been in Jamaica for the pass two years. Now the mother want to go on vacation but she cant because the child has no travel document.

What can she do get back the passport?

Also can she apply for child support from the father while living in Jamaica?

Can someone suggest her next step.

@Blessedchild, when you collect your package from DHL there is a sheet of paper attached to it. It provides the instruction for the website that you must logged into to do so.

@OluwasenuA when I made the payment as I put in my A numbers and case number the the amount due was $220.00. I was confused myself of the additional $53.  I will post after I have made entry.

My POE will be on January 20th JFK. I have already paid for my GC. The paper that come with my package says if for $167 but when I paid it online it charged $202. I guess the additional is taxes.
