Thanks for the response.
I'm loading the truck and then flying, so there's a fairly limited amount of stuff I can take with me on the plane.
I wont have reciepts for any of the stuff (I don't keep them) so I'll have to estimate the worth.
Unfortunately, while a lot of these things are small, some are pretty expensive. Anyone know what the duty is?

Huh.. I always thought Vanc. was same day, not next. I booked a flight back home for the day of the interview in the evening

Howdy all, I hope everyone had a great holiday
I have a question. I'm starting to pack all my stuff for the moving truck (I'm using Upack from Winnipeg to Denver). I've been briefly reading the customs form that has to accompany all my things, I have a pretty decent packing list made, etc.
What I'm wondering about is this "you must have owned these items for at least one year" line I keep seeing.
There's a number of things I've owned for less than a year, from cosmetics, to electronics, to clothing.
Do I have to declare all of these? Am I charged duty on them? I'm a little clueless here
Thanks everyone

Thanks for checking into it

Any news yet? I'm putting off booking my flights til I hear back

I believe Vancouver is still issuing same day.
But they have less than half the case load of Montreal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
If I am I may have to reschedule the moving truck
-
If I recall correctly you -must- cross the border at the same time or ahead of your belongings.
I'm using movers; they will be leaving a couple of days after me, after I've faxed them a copy of my stamped visa and I-94.

I'll try and upgrade/fix it in the time before I head out to Vancouver. Thanks for the tip
-
Yeah I filled them out typing, that was no problem. But the DS156, the one you kinda have to go and do online in a special way? That one wont work for me. If I understand correctly there's supposed to be a barcode generated on that. I can't get it to work =/
-
Yeah it's okay, I've calmed down since last night. My mom has me worrying my head off now that I wont have some piece of paper they need or something, and that I'll get denied.
Also I can't fill out those online forms >.< my computer wont let me do it for some reason, it screws up and says page cannot be found every time I hit the submit button... so I printed them out but there's no barcode /sigh.

Yeah. It just screwed up a bunch of stuff I guess. The cost of my moving truck went wayyyy up because it's at the end of the month

Well my interview date is January 23rd. I was really hoping it would be sooner than that.
I'm not totally devastated but I am a little bitter. From past timelines I was fairly sure Vancouver was faster than that.

I visited San Antonio when I was little and I can remember a light show on the Riverwalk, it was gorgeous.

Heyyyy not all Canadians wish they were americans

Congratulations! Can't wait to hear the story

Well I faxed mine back on November 30th ans Requested Jan 3rd. Doubt I'll get it though. Medical was done in home city (Winnipeg) on the 23rd (if I remember correctly, I can't see my timeline right now)
-
on the last page of the checklist you can requiest a "preferred date"
They seem to be scheduling interviews for the end of january now. I requested Jan 3rd but it looks like I probaby wont get on until the 20th or later. I haven't recieved packet 4 yet though, and they haven't responded to my email in a week lol so I dont know when my date is yet.

I just get funny looks when I say things like "Pasta".. I say it "pAsta" (short A) like a good little Canadian. Rob laughs each time because apparently it's supposed to be "PAHhhsta" (long A).
Generally people don't ask, but I can tell by the looks on their faces they think I'm from somewhere strange. It would probably make more of a difference if Colorado has a heavier accent (a la Kentucky or Georgia) but it's pretty nondescript.
-
Ouch!
Good luck, I hope your approval comes soon
-
Well it isn't so much that. I get taxes taken off and stuff.
But she only pays once a month (and is required by law to pay bi-weekly), refuses to pay overtime, etc.
I'm just not sure that they will bother to send me an ROE when I leave.
-
Yeah my friends are having issues getting them at the moment. Well, not issues per se, just waiting longer. I'm glad I had mine renewed last spring.

Hmmm #######.
Now... one of my jobs over summer was filling out ROEs for firefighters... but the job I'm working at is a little... sketchy.
Is it the company itself that generates the ROE? Or does it come from somewhere else?
Because I have a feeling I wont be getting one when I quit.
