Congratulations!! Sounds like you had a smooth sailing with no RFE's and all that stress-related stuff On a side note, I was reading your blog, and was wondering when are you posting Episode 3?
We did have a pretty easy go of it (I'm almost ashamed to admit that because I know a lot of people on here didn't have such a good time) so I'm just thanking my lucky stars it all worked out in the end. We got one RFE on the AOS - they wanted Tax info that we already sent them... Basically sent the same stuff again and it cleared? Sometimes you gotta wonder lol.
Oh Episode 3, I have it about half written... As a matter of fact, I think I'll go finish it right now!
-
Eee it's weird to think that it's pretty much all done with, nearly 3 years + a month to the day since we sent off the I-129F.
I got my letter in the mail last night after filing in mid June... no RFE, no interview.
I know I haven't been around much, but I have nothing to do but praise everyone on these forums for all the help I've had over the years. When I went for my AOS interview 2 years ago, our consular officer told me she'd never seen such a well-put together packet of information, so all of you deserve a huuuuge
All I have to do now is decide whether to stay LPR, or become a dual citizen
-
Hah! Cool, I'll add that to my little pile of knowledge.
I was lucky enough to land a job with medical benefits about 2 days after my EAD arrived in the mail, and I've been working there ever since. Dr.'s stuff has been routine - checkups, "yearly exams", and a pretty thorough panel of tests... and I haven't had to pay more than my $25 copay any time I walk in the door. Even for an ultrasound.
If I needed major surgery I think it would cost me $1000 tops (my deductible), which is reasonable. I wouldn't flee back to Canada for it
-
Just leave it as is, until you need a new one. And remember any time you fly anywhere make your reservations in your maiden name, because they can't let you on the plane if your passport name doesn't match the name on your ticket.
I can do that! I have become very skilled at being over-prepared when it comes to traveling lol.
Thanks!

I've always been confused by the wording - not recognizing a dual citizenship between Canada and the US -
I took that as to mean, if I naturalized I would have to renounce my Canadian citizenship.
I take it this isn't the case?
-
To be honest I haven't thought about Canadian docs since I left. My name would still be my maiden in Canada as far as I know. I didn't know I had to change it if I wasn't living there
That's a good point though, I was just told to change it to my married name to make traveling easier, since my SSN/DL/etc. all have my married name on them now...
-
Err hmmm this was something I didn't consider.
Just before I moved to Denver I had to get my passport renewed (it had expired) and when I did move here, I only traveled once back to Canada. I took my Maiden passport and a copy of the marriage cert with me, and it went fine.
I've since forgotten about it... should I send off to have a new one in my married name?

I survived on Canadian cards for a while, but never had the pleasure of trying to buy gas with them. I can see that being a problem.
Ditto on the credit "rule", my husband had to sacrifice his credit to cosign with me... Canadian credit doesn't "speak" to American unfortunately. You will probably have problems everywhere with that.
I actually used Paypal as my bank. I still do. I can pull money out of Canadian accounts and move it to the US ones, and VV. I use that to pay off my CAD cards from our US acct. It's free, and takes about 10 business days from start to end.
I'm sorry to hear it's been so rough since you've been here! I hope things pick up soon
-
Ooops hah I posted this in the wrong forum apparently, sorry!
Thanks guys!
I hope you all have the easiest time possible with the rest of your visa stuff!

We did terminal to terminal from Winnipeg to Denver, and used a uhaul to get it there are back. It was really cheap and easy

We had our interview this morning at 1030.
It went really well, we had a great officer. She kept saying how well all of the paperwork was organized (THANK YOU VJERS!!!!)
We were only in there for maybe 20 minutes, she asked for a few things-- my social, my driver's license and Rob's, my passport, which she took my I-94 out of, wrote 'Adjusted to permanent resident' on... and she took my AP paper and gave a bunch of stuff back from my file and told me it was an 'immigration souvenir'. Whee! We had a little chat about the immigration process in general and why things sometimes take so long.
All in all a wonderful experience, and my GC is in the mail!
No more USCIS til May of '09!!!

Bed me, I haven't been online much since the 129 was approved life got so busy once I moved here!
-
Thanks guys! I'm so excited, and it's good because things were starting to get a liiiittle tight around here with me not working. It's such a relief!
-
I'm so happy!
It's in my field too, I am starting next week as an architectural intern at a firm in downtown Denver!
This is great!
-
Darn I wish I'd thought of that when I was still in Canada lol.
-
IIRC the guy in Van. who took my papers was quite specific about the Affadavit; so was the interviewer... but I've also heard than Vancouver seems to pay a lot more attention to that particular sheet.
-
Hah! That got a giggle out of me.
-
Well the issue with the aos stuff is they essentially have the originals... we got an rfe for i-864 and sent in everything we could... so we dont have those anymore, they do. all i can get now are copies.
-
Ahh ok thanks!
I was just worried about having some docs in maiden and some in married, but I have my marriage cert to connect the whole jumble lol.
Thanks for the reply!

Hello all,
Was looking over the AOS interview letter and am unsure about a few things.
Completed medical examination I-693 unless already submitted. I'm assuming this is the medical I had while still in K-1 Processing in Canada? If so, it's already been submitted right?
Completed Affadavit of Supports and supporting evidence I-864 unless already submitted. Just to be sure, this is the same affadavit I submitted with AOS, so I don't need to bring in more copies of everyone's W2's etc?
Thanks!

Hey everyone, I got my AP just in time to make it for my cousin's wedding on the 21st, so I'm off to Canada this evening.
I'm taking;
2 AP Papers (Married name)
Passport (Maiden name)
SSN (Maiden name still)
AOS Interview Letter (Married Name)
Marriage Certificate (Ceritfied copy)
Should this be ok? Anything else I would need to bring with? I'm slightly nervous about traveling on my AP though I probably shouldn't be...
Thanks,
-L

Misa, it was an RFE for tax info that we had already sent them. We sent all the same stuff back along with a letter stating no one filed for an extension and all was well after that
-
Yay! My online status has been molested a lot lately... so i've been really rabid about checking the mail, and the interview notice was in there this afternoon!
We're scheduled for August 17th at 10:15 am.
Have a lot of things to do now that I never got around to before (shame on me) changing my name on my SSN card being one of them... Rounding up all the pictures and things...
Thanks VJ for getting me this far!

I keep hearing that haha, for some reason I'm just so wary of Dual Citizenship... can't put a finger on why I guess. It would definitely make it easier to come and go..
