  1. Perhaps the government was the one who greedily handed out loans, like they were going out of fashion, to people who simply could not afford them.

Where'd the money come from, BY? The Federal Reserve, of course. AFAIK, that's the only place in the USA that can legally create money. Of course, you're welcome to prove that wrong...

    As a side observation:

Greedily handing out loans? LOL! That's an oxymoron, if I've ever seen one!

  2. While I'm sure Bill Nye knows more about science than me, I'm still unsure as to whether causal evidence exists to prove that man-made emissions cause GW. There is undoubtedly a correlation between the two, but that alone doesn't prove causation.

If a meticulously-followed controlled experiment proved a causal relation, then surely the debate would be settled. However, if such evidence existed, then man-made GW wouldn't be disputed at all!

Just as no sane person questions the causal relationship between BAC and motor-skill impairment; this has been proven through controlled experiments, the results of which formed hypotheses, which were then rigourously tested by other scientists, if such evidence existed for the relationship between human action and global temperature, then there'd be nothing to dispute.

Again, I'm no climatologist, but I do know that correlation doesn't mean causation.

  3. "safety net"?... don't make me laugh... it's a hammock.

When people fall into an actual "safety net", they quickly get out, hardly the case with social programs.

For instance, when it comes to food, this New mother and child will not only get -enough to get by.... but she will get more than is needed.

As I posted before a family of 3 in my state gets $526.00 per month in food stamps.

Thats not counting WIC and free lunch and breakfast for school age kids or meals eaten at "head Start" if enrolled.

Thats about twice what my family of 3 spends on food per month.

In our kindness to help those who make destructive choices in their life we end up promoting the very thing "we" call -negative.

    Ehh...

Hammock, safety net; what's the difference?

The only viable solution to your problem is to adopt Saudi Arabian policies. Those black sheets of oppression--which cause furor amongst women-rights groups--actually protect women from the sexual nature of men. The Saudis rear significantly less ####### children than their Western couterparts. You can thank the Hijab for that.

####### children are no doubt an encumberance and destructive act on society, as you've clearly noted.

The facts are there, Danno. Recognize the elephant in the room for once.

  4. Unless I'm mistaken, it seems implicit in your local ordinance that "public sidewalk" maintenance is subjugated by the owner of the proximate "private property." Thereby making the "public" property not "public" at all, as it must be maintained by the "private."

    What a paradox!

Of course--respectfully--I disagree with your false dilemma of "individual initiative" or "communism".

This is an issue of the public sector shirking their responsibility to maintain public thoroughways.

  5. But I think I've just gotta bite the bullet and cut her loose, as hard as it will be...

Sounds like you're making the right choice.

If you can't trust her the same, then there's no point to salvage the relationship.

  6. Many people disapprove of the U.S. war against terror, or of how it is being conducted. But what is the alternative, other than changes in U.S. foreign policy?

Why not just change the foreign policy?

Terrorists don't build their foundation of support on "Western evils" like pork hot dogs, G-strings, and Lady Gaga.

  7. what if you underestimate but you are wrong? For example, Alla says we will spend $200 on groceries and I disagree and underestomate that we will spend $150, but then we actually spend $225.

You're missing the temporal aspect. Under and over estimates are discovered only after your estimate is known to be wrong. You cannot underestimate the future, which is unknown. Therefore:

"Alla says we will spend $200 on groceries and I disagree and underestimate that we will spend $150, but then we actually spend $225." You underestimated, but it wasn't revealed until the actual number ($225) was known.
