  1. Hi Kari, (F)

Congratulations and I am very happy for you, specially a fellow Miamian. I can not believe someone from Immigrations is working on Labor Day and that they called you. Have a good trip!

    Good luck,

    Peter Miami

My husband thought the same thing when he answered the phone...the guy said he had work to do today and didn't want us to think he forgot about us so he thought he would call us since he knew we were waiting...what a great guy!

Do you remember his name in case I get him sometime in the near future? He sounds like a very professional and kind hearted man.

I sure do and I will never forget it...his name is Officer Miguel Alvarez...an amazing man...makes me have faith in this system!!

  3. I can't believe the man is working on a holiday but I am so glad he is...he called this afternoon said my namecheck is clear and that my card should be in the mail and I should have it in 2-3 weeks. He said since he knew we were planning on travelling (I had written him a letter) in the next 2 weeks that I should come in tomorrow morning to get my passport stamped...he gave us his direct number and scheduled us for 7am tomorrow morning...oh my gosh, I can't wait...the ironic thing is one of our "other" interviews (we had 3 different dates) was scheduled for tomorrow...oh well...I am glad this will be done soon!~

I hope everyone elses checks are cleared quickly!!

  4. My initial interview was cancelled...my reschedule date was 10 days earlier than the initial. To add more confusion into it, I ended up with another interivew notice, so in total I had three interivew dates. I went to the one that my DO scheduled. It has happend to a few other people on the board. I hope you get a new notice quickly.

    These were my dates:

    August 18th - initial interview - cancelled July 30th

August 8th - rescheduled date - approved pending FBI name check

September 5th - this date has been cancelled by DO, since we have already completed our interview.

  5. I worked on cruise ships for 5 years and met my husband the USC while onboard. Although, I personally did not go through the K1 until after I finished working with the company, I did work with many couples who were going through the process and had no problems at all. There was one couple who did the K3 and 2 that went through the K1...no issues with getting off in port at all...in fact, when they went through Immigration onboard to get their initial I-95, it's not even mentioned.

Hope this helps a little bit!

  6. I just finished brewing a pot of my own Tim Horton's coffee...my mom brought it down for me when she was visiting last month...never the same as in the store...they better not change it...I will be back in Canada in a month and I am dying for a good coffee that doesn't cost over $5! My husband loves Maple Dip donuts, so I know the minute we cross the border we will be heading straight to Tim Hortons..but really, what Canadian doesn't do just that after a long trip away!

  7. I got 2 dates for my AOS interview...actually 3. One from Lee's Summit for August 18th, then a cancellation of that date. Then a notice from Miami for August 8th and then another from Lee's Summit for September 5th. We went to the appointment on August 8th and the officer is cancelling our interview for September 5th. He said it's a good thing we went for the one issued from Miami or the would have cancelled our petition for Failure to Show.

I would go to the first, take the letter for the second date and see what the officer says.

The officer said this could also of been the reason why our case is stuck in FBI name check...there is some confusion somewhere.

Just make sure to follow up with the officer who is cancelling your second appointment. I am sending a letter to the Miami office on Tuesday to ensure this has been done!

  8. I am so glad this board is here...I am pretty new to this site, but so far I love it...

Anyway, just thought I would share my story in case anyone else goes through this process...

I applied for my K1 Visa last May...found out I was pregnant in June...went through all K1 processing, interview was scheduled on due date (Jan. 5th), had my son Jan. 11th, interview in Montreal rescheduled for February 7th. Interview a success...NO ONE knew what I should do in regards to crossing the border with my son. My husband was unable to come back up to Toronto to file for the Consular Report of Birth, and as anyone in Ontario knows it can take a LONG time to get a Long Form Birth Certificate. So, I was told by the POE officers that we could cross with a letter from his dad, giving me permission and his birth records from the hospital and municipality, and that once we were settled to apply by MAIL for his Consular Report of Birth Abroad. Well, this is obviously not possible since it is only available if the child is still residing in Canada.

So, after speaking to many immigration offices, we finally came across a lawyer who told us just to apply for his US Passport. We did...yes, we had to send in a notarized affidavit detailing my husbands residence for basically his entire life, but it worked and we are done. We do have the option of applying for his Certificate of Citizenship, but that will be down the road once my own AOS process is completed.

Anyway, just wanted to share. On a side note, when we did apply in person for the US passport, the agent had NO IDEA that it could be done without a SSN. It can...and in our case we were not able to apply for the SSN until we had his passport. So that is where we are heading on Monday.

I hope this helps someone who may go through this process in the future...

We are off to celebrate our son's Dual Citizenship...

  9. They allow you to make a name change over the phone if it's because of marriage. I just called them and told them my married name and it was changed. I also recieved a GST check which they have yet to collect, but when I called to update their personal info, they had me fax them a copy of my marriage certificate. Everything is in my married name now...just sent my passport last week and they called me to get credit card info and said I should have it really fast, since it is not an entirely new passport just the addition of my married name.

  10. We joined the list on August 8th...we are planning a trip back to Canada at the end of September, the officer advised me that we shouldn't leave the country while AOS is pending because he said I would be "out of status" upon return since I don't have my Green Card and in the system it is "pending".

I thought the whole point of getting AP was so that we could use it while AOS is pending. He told me to talk to an attorney before we leave the country. Though he did say, that since it was "Canada" it probably shouldn't be to difficult to cross back and forth. I asked our attorney and she doesn't seem to think it will be a problem.

Were any of you advised not to travel with AP while your FBI name check is pending?

Thanks in Advance....I appreciate your help!

we have traveled 2 times since our interview, you have an AP, you are allowed to use it with no restrictions. Just like your EAD still continues to be valid.

Thanks so much...that's what I thought but when a USCIS officer told me different I got so confused!! :star:

  12. I also tried to cash a Government of Canada check at Bank of America...they told me the same thing as PP...I emailed their customer service to find out why I couldn't but my friend in Atlanta had no problems, they said each branch varies with what they will accept. I have found that the more south you are from Canada, the more difficult it is to do anything with Canadian money.

The agent at the bank did suggest that I go to the airport to exchange the money...but if you have a significant amount I would just wire the money and pay the $30...especially if you do write a check and it has to go through collections, that could get costly...
