  1. To celebrate National Women's History month, the Milwaukee Field Office invited only women to participate in today's Naturalization Ceremony! The ceremony began at 10am with the opening remarks, president's proclamation, and national anthem. Then there was a guest speaker and we did our Oath of Allegiance with the judge. At the end they played a message from the President and then "I'm Proud to be an American". The ceremony ended at 11am. It was such an amazing experience. The officers just kept saying how special it was to be "surrounded by our sisters" for such a special ceremony - and they were right. I am so glad to be finished with USCIS...off to apply for my passport now!

  2. I arrived at the office at 8:30am for my 9am interview. Was told to go upstairs, drop off my letter and wait. The waiting area was pretty empty - there were maybe 5 other people waiting. Waited and waited and at 9:40am my name was called. A very quiet and kind officer brought me to his office, had me swear to tell the truth and we got down to business.

First thing he asked me was for my Green Card and if I had any extra "marital evidence" to add to my folder. I handed him by tax returns for the last 3 years and a copy of our bank statements and lease. Then it was time to get down to business. He told me he would ask me a question and if I couldn't understand him he would repeat himself and I shouldn't be afraid to ask. First thing was to read "who elects Congress" and I had to write "the people elect congress". Then it was time for the questions:

    1. Who wrote the declaration of independence?

    2. Name one state that borders Mexico.

    3. Which political party does the president belong to?

    4. Name 3 of the first 13 colonies.

    5. What are the 2 political parties in the United States?

    6. How many US Senators are there?

He said I passed and would have to now wait for my invitation to the oath ceremony. He said it is done a first come first serve basis - I know there is one next week in Milwaukee and asked about getting in on that one, he said he wasn't sure and I would just have to wait for the letter.

Left with a letter saying congrats and a big smile on my face. Hopefully I won't have to wait to long for the oath ceremony!

Yeah...didn't take as long as I was anticipating...good luck to all who continue to wait!

  4. I waited until after I applied for AOS and took my NOA with me. My Florida licence is good until 2008 exactly 2 years from the date that I got it. The lady at the DMV explained that when it's time to renew just to bring my 10 year card or the NOA to remove the conditions depending on which I would have at the time.

    Hope this helps.

  5. Congratulations...you are almost there!! I think we PM'd before but just in case:

I had to reschedule my interview since it was planned for my due date. I ended up taking my 6 week old son to Montreal...but I didn't have to have his birth certificate...what I did bring was his proof of birth letter from the hospital and a letter from my phyician stating who my son's parents were. I also had a copy of the letter from the city where I had registered his birth. These all had my fiance's name on them as the father.

I was told at my interview to just make sure I had his birth certificate when I crossed the border and I took care of the rest from the US.

Good luck...I had my fiance call and reschedule, for some reason MTL listened and were more reasonable with him than with me, but that could have been from all of my hormones!!

    Good luck!!

  6. I had the same thing happen to me. My interview for August 18th had been cancelled (per Lee's Summit) and 2 days later I received a notice that my new interview was August 8th (per Miami). Then 3 days after that I received another notice that my interview was September 5th (per Lee's Summit). I went to the interview on August 8th...had my interview was pending FBI namecheck. Gave my notice for the September 5th interview to my AO, he said that a lot of this is happening because a lot of times Lee's Summit isn't at the same pace as the DO where the interview will take place.

Interestingly enough, my AO called me on September 4th and told me my namecheck was complete and to come in for my stamp. Had I waited until my Sept. 5th date, I would have been approved without any knowledge of being stuck in namecheck...

not saying that this is the case, but don't be too alarmed...I know there was another VJ'er who also received the same notices as me and we both went to the same office and there were a few others with rescheduled notices as well.

Good Luck...but don't be afraid to follow up!

  7. When I went to the SSA to get the restricitions removed I was instructed to fill out a new application and check off that I already had a SSN. They didn't ask to see my original card, I only showed it to them to explain what I needed to return. The officer told me I could put my card away - so I left with it and was told to destroy the old one once my new one arrived. The interesting thing that happend was when the officer was "plugging in" all of my info, he told me that USCIS hadn't cleared me in the system, eventhough I already have had my PR for over a month. He told me it takes awhile for all of the systems to match.

Long story short, I got my unrestricted card yesterday...less than 4 weeks after I applied for the new card.

  8. My son was born in Canada...less than 4 weeks before my K1 interview. As soon as we crossed the border and his father and I married, we went and applied for his US passport. My son now has all of his documents for both Canada and the US. One reason we did not register his birth abroad was because my husband could not come back to Canada and go to the consulate to register the birth in person (he had used all of his holidays when he came back for the birth).

I do know that if you have your baby in the US you just have to apply for the Canadian Citizenship Card...I know that if we have any other children in the future we will be sure to make sure that they are citizens of both the Canada and the US.

  9. My interview had been scheduled for my due date. I called and requested a new date, when I did they told me that I would be put back in line and could wait awhile, I didn't have a very friendly agent. So, I called back the next week, explained my situation and was rescheduled for just a little over a month later with no problems at all!

    Good luck!

  10. I just recently dealt with them...

I first changed my address through the website, had to get an epass....then I called the customer service line and made sure it was changed.

I received my CTB and GST check at my US address. Because I just married this year, I then faxed them a copy of my marriage certificate along with my new address...again.

CTB called me about a month ago stating they had NO idea that I was living in the USA and eventhough my address reflected that and I had received 2 checks there, they did not change their personal records until the received the fax from me.

So, I exhausted all avenues: website, phone, and fax...the only thing I didn't do was go there in person!!

But they finally have it right!

  11. Just as an update...when we went in this morning and thanked him so much for a)updating my file and b)calling us to let us know it was complete...he said one sentence that I had completley forgotten through this process and that was "We are in the Service industry" He went on to explain that there are a "few" officers out there who give them all a bad name but that they are really working hard to overcome this. He told us that he personally makes a point to check weekly on any cases on his desk that are pending...he said he knows how long and how important this is too all of us...

He is an commendable part of the USCIS team and I plan on writing a letter to his supervisor to let them know what fantastic customer service we recieved from this officer.
