  1. Has the visa package been sent or in the process of been sent from the US? I would not apply for a police check until then. It is only valid for 12 months and the process takes around 3-4 months and you dont want it expiring :) It was very easy to get for the K1. I just got a standard name check (though a disclosed is preferred) and I had no issues with my visa being granted!

  2. In Australia, the consulate gives you an interview date. I had managed to get it scheduled on the same day as my medical. There are only 3 doctors in Sydney who can perform the medical. One is on holidays, at the time of my booking, the 2nd doctor was booked up until October and the 3rd Doctor was available. When finding out about the same day, they put me in the nearest possible time which was the next day. Basically, I was not issued my visa right away and it will probably be delayed around a week or two. It would have been much more convienent to have had it before. I will not complain though. I just have to hope it all comes before my trip to Bali for my uncles birthday (which it should). The whole process was fairly painless and the Dr I saw here in Sydney was great!

  3. Thank you :) These were the exact responses I was looking for.

    1. I am not buying a ticket until my Visa has been issued. I just wanted to jump on that ASAP since I have an exact date in which my Fiancee is travelling back to the states that I want to join him on.

    2. If I have to miss the birthday then so be it. I do not want to have anything mess up or delay this. I have already spent too much time away from my fiancee. So thank you for the warning advice.

    3. My ticket will come with travel insurance and I would purchase a changeable ticket as my credit card offers that service. Which is great. I would just have to buy a higher tier ticket to allow it to be refundable/changeable.

It is great to hear from others what your actual experiences have been vs. what they say. I did think about having a quicky marriage before the real thing..but there is just some part of me that wants the tradition of the big day. God I am hopeless! I went from not wanting a proper wedding to wanting all the frills and spills that go with it!

I will have a long hard think about things and discuss them with my family before any decisions are made.

    Thanks again!

  4. Hi All,

I am not sure where to put this, so I am going to ask a few questions here. I have tried to look for similar topics, however there are so many out there and I wanted some specific advice here for my situation.

I am currently going through a K1 Visa. I am about to have my interview and shortly after given an approval, I want to book my ticket to fly back with my Fiancee in January. We plan on marrying some time in March and my question is...Should I buy a return ticket? I would like to as it is my little nephew's 1st birthday in June. I would love to be able to be in Australia for it. I know it then poses the same issue of having to buy another return ticket, though I do not mind. It just seems so much more worthwhile and to have a reason for wanting to have a quick trip back and surprise my family would be great.

What is the process like to enable me to travel once entering the US and how long does the process take before you do not have the same issues?

    Hope this post makes sense.

    Thanks, Trace

  5. Basically, I rang them to schedule the medical because there was a HUGE wait for them. I am guessing you got my free appointment date (since mine was next Tuesday and I had to change it). The next available appointments were well into October. The only issue with scheduling the medical before is that like me it may pop up on the same date/time. However they were very accomodating (cept for the fact my medical will happen after). They are hugely booked because one of the Sydney Dr's is on holidays atm. The interview is scheduled for us once you respond to the email above. It took about 2 days for mine to get to me after I had sent off the email. Good luck!! The embassy seems to be having about two week turn arounds from the Notice to the interview.

  6. As an Australian going through this process, I would make sure you are both 100% committed to this relationship before starting the process. I have been with my partner for 2 years and we have known each other almost 5 years. It is daunting and even though it does take some time, there are time limitations.

    1. Be ready to marry at any moment. Do not expect this to take 8 months and not be ready to marry. Know within yourselves that this is absolutely what you want and in moving to another country. As RandiandYuni already stated...for me too this is happening amazingly quickly considering what I was originally looking at (THANK GOD). But keep in mind, from the moment you are granted the visa, it expires in 6 months and from there, once you enter the USA, you have 90 days.

    2. It is not an easy or cheap process. There are a lot of costs involved including the VISA, Medicals, Passport photos and mailing of packages etc. Make sure you and your partner are ready for these costs.

    3. Have everything ready as others have said. There is a lot of details etc and you will be need to be prepared!!

Good Luck with the process :)

  7. https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA392/how-do-i-manage-my-conversation-history-in-skype-for-windows-desktop

I have done this before. For those of us with massive history logs it takes a little while...but its all tehre hahaa

Edit: It appears the newer versions of Skype have had the function I used removed (this is not the link I posted above). Hmm...Maybe someone with a little more computer knowledge can help out here. What I did last time was export all the skype history from one chat into a word document.

  8. Hi LilAus!! Good luck! And to all those who are still to receive their NOA2's!!

I just wanted to let everyone know as it seemed to get a little lost and confused,

I read on another forum post. I cannot find the original post but I did copy this. Please note this is current and not from 2012.

    Hi,

I am wondering if anyone else is having the same slow time processing between noa2 and NVC receiving/processing.

I got my NOA2 on June 9th 2016, and received the hard copy letter the following week - which states I should allow 30 days for processing. However I have seen based on information on VJ that most people are issued a case number at NVC 2-3 weeks after NOA2.

I called NVC at my 3 week mark and they advised they had not received it and that it can take up to 6 weeks for them to receive from USCIS - which totally contradicts the information on the NOA2. I called them again at the 4 week mark and still they have no record.

I don't really want to wait until 6 weeks to discover that it may be lost in the system? And also think they are saying 6 weeks just to stop me calling them.

This was posted from another thread. They are advising people to wait up to 6 weeks to receive the cases before calling. Many other people have posted the same thing. If you look in the thread under NVC.

Basically they will not respond to you until around the 6 week mark. I am guessing that processing times have become longer and we all need to just be a little bit more patient with them! Good luck and I hope everyone is getting approved and get their notices soon!!!

  9. Thank you. I use comic sans for my font because i think it looks smooth. It is readable.

So i just wanted to show you, i tell you guys to call them every day after one week because i read like that. Not just because i am impatient.

I can quote more. You dont have to call them everyday. But most of vj members calls everyday to get their number.

I don't feel like i have to defend myself. I shared my feelings over here i found support and i really felt better after i read their comments. Thank you.

Please Dorothy, read my post. Your reference posts are from 2012. This is not current or helpful information. I posted about someone who called recently and their responses.

  10. i am sorry but why are you always so grumpy about what i said all the time. i can be impatient because i miss my fionce and i want to get my number as fast as i can so i can schedule my interview at least 2 months later .i am trying to be helpful as much as i can. i research and share my experiences & info with people over here so they wont wait extra days and dont worry i will have wait time because my embassy gives interview like 2-3 months later. thank you for your concern.

And about your question about starting calling them 1 week later:

I followed may filers they all started calling nvc after 1 week mostly people get their case number 1 week later. even when you call nvc and they say they dont have your case and they tell you to call them 2 weeks later, may filers called nvc 1 day later and nvc says they got their case and they give to petitioner a case number. They are not gonna get annoyed about you are calling them every day. It is their job and i dont think you will talk with the same person everytime you call them.

One of my friend from turkey told me to call them 1 week later because that's when he got his case number.

Even there is a person who told that you should call them every day at 9pm (forgot the time zone). (not sure why)

We are all here in the same boat. We are all being patient and trying our best to keep it together with the long process ahead of us. Some of us have long waits to see our fiancees and we are all wanting to just be with them already. I think it is just a little frustrating to see the impatience. Relax and let things run its course. Bugging them and constantly wanting your visa now now now is not going to make it come any sooner. Sorry, but just relax. It will come when it comes and it is on its way like all of ours. Ringing, harrassing them is not the way to go unless you truely are worried your application is not where it should be. I am guessing that would be in a month as opposed to a week. Remember this isn't about the visa and getting into the country. It is about being with your fiancee :)

  11. Timezone difference is the worst part of the whole thing! She's 7 hours behind me which is awful and some people have it way worse than us!

I'm really hoping it'll be this week, but realistically I think ours will be next week or the week after (which won't be so bad if we get an RFE as I'm flying out to visit on the 29th August :) )

Its 17 hours for us. I come home from work at 6pm and its 1am his time. He is already asleep. I talk to him on my lunch break that is about it atm until Saturdays when he comes home from work and Sundays is our day together!
