  1. He got approved at the interview today! My future husband is coming to the USA!!!

Congrats! Wishing him a safe flight.

I called in some moments ago , they just obtained our case number :joy:

Woo hoo! Feels good, doesn't it? Next stop: your fiancee's embassy!

Received my case number from Nvc today....this process is moving relatively quick, I am happy at the progress thus far...

    Congrats! Keep it positive!

Congrats, Jass and to all recent approvals!

Our case shows as "Ready". Waiting for packet 3 now. :D

No need to wait for Packet 3 if your embassy has it on their web site or is willing to e-mail it to you. Contact them for more information.

  2. Do you mean from the NOA 2 date or will they send a separate notice when it is being transferred? I see they are averaging 26 days right now to receive it, so yes we need to sit back and try to be patient. The waiting really is a pain though.

It took our case 26 days to go from CSC to NVC. That was a ridiculous amount of time to wait for something to travel from California to New Hampshire!

  3. For lay over flights, you do not need any visa for the country which you will stop over. I had travelled a couple of times with Oslo being my lay over country and its just fine, they'll have guides on where the transferring passengers will pass for verification anyway.

    Goodluck :)

Thank you. Like me, you're a US citizen, right? We have it pretty easy around the world.

My concern is that my Thai fiancee will face a little more difficulty.

  4. Here's an oddball question:

My fiancee and I are looking at tickets from BKK to JFK. Norwegian Air is coming up in nearly every search with the lowest fare. However, this would require a stop in Oslo. Does anyone know if Thai nationals require a transit visa? I've been reading about this online and I'm not 100% confident that she can travel without a Norwegian transit visa.

Here's what I've seen so far:

  5. My fiancée is a Viet national living in BKK, working for Agoda and she has a valid work permit and visa. Our K1 was just approved by USCIS, travelled through the NVC and the NVC packet is 'In Transit' to the BKK embassy.

We know that we need a police report and are trying to figure out the documents needed to get this going. I have seen it takes 5 weeks or more for this document to be generated (and you can't pay extra for expedited processing). The instructions are rather confusing and most of the advice seems to understandably be aimed at Thai nationals. The various sources seem to differ wildly or not apply at all to our situation. Is it possible to get the process started now? I have seen some reports saying you just need a copy of the NOA2 and her work related stuff to get the Police report. Other places say she can't even start on this process unless she has the first page of her Packet 3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I would get started right away on this. My fiancee (a Thai national) applied for her police clearance on November 14 and is still waiting to receive it! As far as the "extra fee" (expedited service), that was available four weeks ago. From what I've heard here, it cuts the turnaround time from 4-6 weeks to 1-2 weeks. Be prepared to lay down 1500฿ (about $42) for this service.

If you fiancee lives and works in Bangkok, she can easily visit the police clearance center. Consider yourself lucky in that regard. Yes, your fiancee can bring a copy of your NOA2 and that should be sufficient based on my fiancee's experience.

For further details, check out the Thai Police Clearance Certificate instructions on the US Embassy's web site. Although it's not noted there, she'll need to bring a color copy of your passport bio page with your signature below it. (Odd, I know.)

    Hope this helps!

  6. We received our NOA2, it says that NVC is going to process our case. According to NOA2 it would take 2-4 weeks.

Should we call NVC to track our request? Or should we wait for their notification + case #?

    Thanks for clarifying,

You'll get your case number faster if you call. If you wait for the letter, it could take awhile. Plus, some folks here report never receiving a letter. So I think it's best to call. Just be prepared to wait at least 14 days from NOA2 before calling. I recommend calling no more than twice weekly although some people call daily or even multiple times a day.

  7. My fiancé called NVC and our case left on Monday. I used the DHL tracker and apparently it arrived to the embassy in Madrid this morning, but CEAC still says "in transit". I guess it takes some time to open the package and change the status?

I just had this experience. It varies by embassy. It took 10 whole days for the Bangkok embassy to mark our case as "ready" after DHL confirmed it had arrived. Most other embassies take 3-5 days.

  8. Hey guys! I haven't gotten my NOA2 yet but I'm just trying to get things in order. So when the beneficiary pays for the interview, do they have to be the one to actually pay or can I do it? Just trying to figure the bank situation doesn't fiance

It's probably a good idea to ask this question in the region-specific forums for the best answer. In Thailand, my fiancee simply paid at a local bank branch in cash. There was also an EFT (electronic funds transfer) option as well, but I believe that requires a Thai bank account.

  9. For me, important documents have always gone UPS/FedEx/DHL and not via USPS or Thai Post. Yes, those private services can and do lose shipments. However, the postal system in Thailand is a little less sophisticated than ours here in the States. Honestly, I can't stomach the amount of money my fiancee and I have spent just sending documents back and forth to each other. But we've decided that reliability, tracking, and peace of mind is worth the price. Believe me, I feel your pain!

  10. Fiancee finished day 2 of St Luke's medical and she got everything needed in hand for the interview to take with her, passed with flying colors. She's just sore from vaccinations.

Exciting, she will have her interview next Monday. I also got my February vacation/time off approved today..crazy how things are working out for us. I'm going to go to her and fly back with her, should be a great time but sad for parents because she is leaving.

Sorry to hear about hold ups for others, the waiting isn't fun, hang in there!

Congrats to you guys on your progress so far! I know my fiancee is concerned about getting homesick and being away from her family, too.

Also, our case's CEAC status just got updated to READY!!!!!!! What a coincidence because my fiancee just received the I-134 and financial support docs I sent her last week.

  11. Quick question - in the consulate information in our interview country's "portal" it says that my fiance should get his vaccines before the medical - is this true? Looks like he will need Tdap, MMR, Varicella, and Influenza

My fiancee took matters into her own hands because of the cost of the vaccines at the panel physician's office in Bangkok. So, yes, you can have the vaccines done ahead of time if it's more convenient for your fiancee and/or saves money. I have heard that sometimes the panel physicians won't accept proof of vaccination for certain vaccines. So it's quite variable. And the advice to post in the region-specific forums is spot-on. Lots of folks with Filipino partners here so I'm sure there's a wealth of information!

  12. Hello!

It took about 3 weeks for our case to reach the embassy from NVC. It was so frustrating cause it looked like the average time was about 5 days or so. NVC said it was at the embassy; embassy said it hadn't arrived yet. Who knows were the problem was...but we worried. My personal theory is that it arrived at the embassy but they had administrative issues on their end. But once the case was logged by the embassy things happened very very quickly. So be prepared!

    Best of luck to you.

    David & Noom

Thank you so much for the reply! It's been really helpful watching your case progress through the K1 maze. I'm guessing we're in for the same issue you guys had to deal with. The good thing for us is that we have everything ready to go for Packet 3 minus the police certificate. Woo! Thanks again!

  13. May I ask how to check if the USEM already received the package? Can I continue on the DS-160 now It was all so sudden! We agreed not to talk about it much to avoid stressing on waiting and now it just happened! waaaaa!!

Sure. Use the CEAC immigrant visa status check. You can also contact the embassy after 1 week has passed to see if they've received it yet.

Anyone having issues contacting the NVC? when i call (603)-334-0700 it just hang up like no dial tone. We are hoping they have our my case number by now or am i dialing the wrong number?

Try calling back right at 7 AM or after 11:30 PM.

I just tried the number and it said "Your call can not be completed at this time please try again later."

Again, try calling back right at 7 AM or after 11:30 PM.

  14. Can anyone who has received their NVC case number recently tell me how long after NVC received their case did they receive the case number. I have been looking on other VJ members timelines and I have seen an average of 1 day. My case was received Friday and when I called today twice I was told it takes two weeks. Can anyone if they were told the same turnaround time? Thanks!!

Your assessment is correct: an average of 1 day. I can't imagine it would take more than a week. I'd call them back later this week and see if you got a case number yet.

  15. Reallyyyy!!! Can everyone just move on, we are suppose to be encouraging each other and helping with advice. The back and forth of all of this miscommunication has been going on since yesterday. I personally like this forum so can we all just get along. In all actuality everybody has to wait on something. No one is cleared until they have their visa in hand so please end the bickering and let's just all get along and help each other out. Thank you!!

AMEN to that! Let's move on!

  16. OK folks, let's keep the focus on our immigration journey and not on any one particular member's ill-advised comments.

Speaking of the journey, has anyone had issues with the amount of time it's taken from NVC to your fiancee's embassy? I see most people's cases are transferred within 5 days but we're at 11 and counting. Wondered if anyone had any insight as to why some embassies take longer than others?
