  1. Yes, it is a summertime change.

They switched to afternoon appointments last summer 2015 for two months (confirmed as 12 noon for first appointment of the day). Then they went back to morning appointments with first appointment at 8am. This spring/summer 2016 they are doing the noon start again, but may go back to 8 am like they did before.

They seem to allow a line to start about an hour before the first appointment, start sending people through security about 30 minutes before the first appointment, but do not light up the screens inside and start calling numbers until the first appointment time, currently noon.

They were calling numbers and had the screens lit the whole time I was in there from 11. The first I/K visa interviews were called about 11:40 but the screens had V/W numbers on the whole time being called while we were there. They also let immigrant visas in earlier than 30 minutes before the appointments time of 12. At least half a dozen went in before me before 11am. This was 2 weeks ago. Just my observations from the day I was there. All seemed a lot more relaxed and less organised than I expected.

  2. It's kinda first come, first served in London so do you want to wait an hour outside to be early in the line or wait longer seated inside because you weren't first in line? Even if you show up late, like 12:45 or 1:00, you still get to interview. They don't take you by appointment time. It's a bit more like take a number at Argos and wait to be called up. Yes, you get a number when you enter.

If you show up too early, they will probably run you off because they don't want a line forming 2-3 hours early before they put personnel out there to process the line. They will start letting people in about 30 minutes before they open up the windows for business. I don't know what time that is on the afternoon appointment summer switcheroo. When it's all morning appointments, the line starts forming by 7 am, they start working the line at 7:30 am and call the first number inside at 8 am (which is the first scheduled appt.). Maybe the summer schedule is first appointment at 12:30.

London has changed a bit now. Immigration visas start from 12pm now. You can queue up about 45 minutes before that. I got there at 10.55 and they still let me in with the tourist/work visa people though as there wasn't that many. I had to wait until 12 until they started calling any I/K visa interviews but I was 5th in line and seen really early then :)

  3. Are there public places you would be able to use a comp? Library? Cyber Café? A friend who has a computer? You need to figure that out as it is only accepted online

You will get an application receipt number after you fill out the DS-160 online at the ceac website

Not true. The I-129F is filed paper copy and will generate a case number with USCIS. This is the first step before even beginning to worry about where the DS-160 can be filed (which does have to be online)

  4. She's been to Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand.

My wife told me some other Chinese in a green card group she's part of inly got a 2-year visa, even though they were married more than two years upon arriving in the U.S, because other steps were taken before two years.

Even if I can show her proof that this isn't officially the case, she believes those who experienced it. I can't blame her, but it's frustrating.

If you haven't filed anything yet then I would imagine its better to apply for the B2 and try and get that approved BEFORE filing the CR1/IR1. If she can show strong ties to China still (which I'd imagine you still have if you haven't filed) and prove its just for a visit then she might be able to get it. The main red flag will be marriage to a USC but that shouldn't automatically deny it. Travel to other countries will help in this regard I believe.

  5. As I don't have specific dates and no emergency can i still get the advance AP? I think I may have misunderstood the reasons for having this...

I don't think there is any chance of me passing a test so what happens if I never get naturalisation?

Yes you can apply for AP with your AOS regardless. Only emergency AP will need a date and reason to leave.

As for the test, its actually quite passable. Been looking at it myself and while I know a fair bit about the US and can pass it already, my 14 year old son who doesn't still answered enough right. A lot of the civics questions you probably pick up and know from various TV shows lol. The history ones can be trickier but they're largely based on famous events which you can learn easy enough. Have some faith.

That said if you still can't pass it I believe you can just remain on your green card indefinitely. You don't HAVE to naturalize. Its a privilege not a requirement.

  6. Has she travelled to any other countries? And am I right in thinking you currently have no visa applications in progress at all for the US?

You wife will get a 2-year or 10-year green card depending on how long she has been married to you on the day she enters the US, not the date you submit the petition or the date she gets the visa. So you should apply now rather than wait, she can always delay her entry date to ensure it is after your 2-year anniversary, and so she gets the 10-year green card.

Applying now would show intent to immigrate and reduce further the chances of her getting a B2 to visit would it not though?

  7. I am the type that has to have things like this done well in advance and then checks it about 25 times between now and then

Yeah had mine ready a month in advance as well and I double check the paperwork at least once a week making sure I haven't forgotten anything lol

  8. Looks like everything. I've gone through my folder and not much different. One important thing you didn't put on though is evidence of ongoing relationship? I was under the impression we needed to take proof of a genuine relationship with us?

  9. Except that I am now short on time due to all my delays. Looks like a late June interview for me and the possibility that I won't be moving when I had hoped (July 13th). It's very likely that I'll now be moving much later in July. Just hope I can enroll my daughter in school ok.

So happy for you that he is coming so soon :)

If you get your number this week you should still have an appointment for June 10-15th at the latest giving you a month to organise the move. Should be doable with a bit of luck :)
