  1. I got my 10 year GC in the mail today!!! Praise the LORD, thank you for all of your prayers and thank you @sandranj for the help and hope you've given to us all.

They did not change my last name to my maiden name like I had requested in my interview (I am not complaining I am grateful I just don't want to be tied to that man).  Has anyone changed their Last name on their GC?  If so what form and how long does it take for them to do it- can I use my existing GC until they send the new one?

It usually takes 30/40 days to ship to the local office.

If you submitted the I-485 form after VAWA approval then the AOS goes to Vermont first, then Vermont ships the case to NBC and NBC  ships to the local office.

just called Call center for the first time - they said that case is in VSC and I have to write to them to make a decision.  That is strange since local office in TX requested the RFE and required me to send it back to them at local office.  Now IO on the phone is saying the case is back in VSC

Anyhow- I am praying hard that this they are able to make a decision soon.  Please I ask you all for your prayers - Lord Jesus hear my prayer.

    Hi, everyone!

Today after working on my VAWA case for more than 1 year and a half, I have finally received the APPROVAL from USCIS !!!! I am still finding it hard to believe it and feel like I'm dreaming. I am so grateful to God and to my attorney.  Praise the LORD!

Hi -here is the full details:  It lasted 10 mins.  It was an older lady (60's) Officer Godard.  She made me swear in and repeated all questions in the I-485.  She then asked me if I was married and I said no and she took a copy of my DL, Passport and divorce cert.  She asked how I entered, the last date of entry - I answered.

She then smiled and said 10 days is when they will let me know the decision - she asked if I left the US after the last entry I said no.  She asked if I worked - I gave her my offer letter, W2 and pay stubs thus far.  I also signed a waiver of attorney presence.

I then kindly requested that she changed my name on my green card back to my maiden name  - she asked why didn't I do this at the divorce- I said I was not at the hearing due to low funds - she looked at thee divorce cert and remarked she didn't realize he filed for divorce.  She asked why didn't I file for the divorce is said "Ma'am I was not in touch with him and I had no money to go through this procedure".  She said okay.

Today I checked my status online : It indicated my name was updated.  The officer did say she'd ask her supervisor to approve this.

Fingers crossed - hopefully I get the card in the mail.

  7. Hello all - it has been a while.  Work permit granted and I am working - (grateful and thankful for this).  I did my biometrics in NOV 2016 and NOV 2016 was also when my i485 status changed to this:On November 4, 2016, we transferred your Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status, Receipt Number EACXXX, to another USCIS office. That office now has jurisdiction over your case. We sent you a notice that explains why we moved your case.

I made my lawyer call 2 weeks ago and they told him this is normal processing time - is this true?  Am I just being impatient?  i360 was approved but no news on AOS.

  8. @Sandra recently USCIS mailed my husband (now ex husband) see below. They sent an RFE for the i 130 originally filed a year ago with the an i485 that was denied. Now I have filed another i485 after my i360 and i765 was approved. He will obviously not cooperate - but I am wondering if this will delay my i485 in any way. My current i485 so far is processing -I am going for biometrics and they already sent it to " A New Office Has Jurisdiction".

Notice Was Returned To USCIS Because The Post Office Could Not Deliver It

On November 7, 2016, the Post Office returned a notice we sent you for your Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, Receipt Number MSC15xxxxx25, because they could not deliver it. This could have a serious effect on your case.

  9. Hello all-- my work permit came in! Hallelujah!

I filed for i360 and i765 first and it was approved on sept 23 (i360) and i765 on oct 7th.

I filed my i485 on Oct 6 and got a receipt #. What are the next steps ? My divorce was final last week and I filed my i485 before the divorce. Will this hinder my case? My ex husband is a USC - how long will my green card take?

  10. Hello VJ members- I wanted to thank Sandra again (God bless you and the work you do for others). While most of us on here get notifications on new posts and wait- here is a prayer for us. I also filed my I-485 today - asking for your prayers that all goes well with my file and the process is fast without delays.

    Dear Jesus,

Our journey through life is long and hard. We cannot make this trip alone; we must walk together on the journey.
You promised to send us a helper, your Spirit. Help us to see your Spirit in those you send to journey with us.
In the refugee family, seeking safety from violence,
    Let us see your Spirit.
In the migrant worker, bringing food to our tables,
    Let us see your Spirit.
In the asylum-seeker, seeking justice for himself and his family,
    Let us see your Spirit.
In the unaccompanied child, traveling in a dangerous world,
    Let us see your Spirit.
Teach us to recognize that as we walk with each other, You are present.
Teach us to welcome not only the strangers in our midst but the gifts they bring as well: the invitation to conversion, communion, and solidarity.
This is the help you have sent: we are not alone.
We are together on the journey, and for this we give you thanks.
    Amen.

  11. @sandra or others who've had multiple address changes. Ive changed my address once already on my I765 which is in GA. I now reside in TX and filing my i485 under my new address. My lawyer who filed i765 is also in GA.

    1. Does it matter where my lawyer is located?

    2. If I don't change my address the old address is a relative so the file will be safe. Will changing the address delay my EAD ?

  12. Patienceisavirtue It seems that you did not file your EAD using category C 9, but using category C 31 or C 14, that being said you can file now form I-765 using category ( c ) ( 9 ) ( ) or to wait for the EAD approval following the category that you chose when filing I-765.

I had two cases that the VAWA filers decided to file form I-824 and it took almost one year from the I-360 approval until the interview date.

After your divorce is final you can ask to change your name.

@Sandra - so you suggest waiting for the current EAD that I filed under C31 to be approved? Its been now 6 months and no approval thus far. Why are they taking so long - are they waiting for my i485 to be filed?
