  1. I would strongly advice you to wait until you get your GC. Any job that you get, HR will ask you to show proof that you are legal to work in US. That means either a GC, US passport, Citizenship certificate, work permit, or Work visa. SSN does not fulfill all the requirements...

It would be a waste of time for you and the company if you could not provide it by the time you get hired. So, why take risk and burn bridges with employers....

Use your time to get to know US and its culture.... Believe me, once you start working, you won't have any time for anything.. because we just work work work.... ;-)

    Take care...

Doesn't the 1551 in the passport work as a temporary alternative to the green card for a year? I read that HR will use that as proof of residence until the green card comes...?

  2. Question for people who have received the interview date or know the answer... Do know if NVC schedule Biometric appointment or we have to schedule that on our own? Let me know please. I know we schedule our own medical appointment but wasn't sure on Biometric.... Please comment.. Thanks :-)

Some consulates have the biometrics done on the day of the interview but some of them require you to schedule it yourself. Your interview letter will advise you what to do.

  3. Hi guys...I'm settled in already but I'm a little bored being at home by myself when hubby goes to work and honestly I can't wait to start working myself...I feel a little less independent right now ??? Does anyone know if the social security card is dependent on the green card fee? Unfortunately my ticket was ridiculously expensive so we had to wait to pay that fee until after I entered the US so that will be paid this Friday however I read that the SS card comes before the green card but will it come even though we haven't paid the $165 as yet?

  4. I woke up this morning in North Carolina next to my husband and it feels like home! My POE was Miami International Airport and based on my experience yesterday I would not advise anyone to take that route...I spent 3:30 waiting to be processed into their system. I went through the regular line and handed in my envelope then I was sent to another room to wait and that's when I sat there for hours and almost missed my connecting flight but the flight was delayed for 2 hours so I managed to get it. I was not even asked one question they just had me sitting and waiting and at the end of it they just called my name and handed me back my passport. I finally arrived in Charlotte at 1:10am and we got to the house just before 3am. I'm just really relieved that it's over!

  5. Thanks BeckyMaria,

I haven't any mail to confirm that my case has been complete. However, I did call last week and it was confirmed over the phone. Will I be getting any email or regular mail to confirm that? If yes, how long does it take for me to get that? I am just trying to prepare for the next step.

    Thanks

Usually the confirmation email comes 3 or 4 days after case was completed but I read somebody's post on this forum a few days ago where they mentioned that they never received a case complete confirmation email and just received an interview email. You can always call to find out from the NVC.

  6. im curious too... is there any truth to this facebook thing????

I can attest to the fact that they absolutely DO check social media if they find it necessary to, Facebook was the deciding factor for us. The CO specifically said 'Your marriage looks legitimate based on your facebook account' he then went on to say congrats you have been approved! Don't let anyone tell you that they don't check social media.

  7. Thanks Mrs. Burgz.

I have read the complete email and attached P4 attachment. Aside from my case number in the subject line of the email, this is a generic email and attachment for all interviews going through this consulate (K1-IR!-CR1).

I cannot see how they (or the consulate) would not send some type of letter stating the date and time of the interview. That would mean every single person would have to call up NVC for their interview date? And what if an error was made with the person on the phone giving you the interview date and time? Surely there must be a letter coming that confirms the date and time of the interview with my name on it!?!?!?! The P4 does not have anything to the effect. Thanks :)

Are you positive that the email you received is the P4? Reason I ask is because the P4 is the same as the interview letter and on the first page it states date and time of interview. It consists of 4 pages...5 if you count the blank page. We received that after confirming on the phone and also in addition to that email my husband received the exact letter in snail mail about 3 weeks after we got the email.

  8. Just gave hubby a massage and he's knocked out now so I have some time to do my review.

Interview was at 9 but we got there at 8:35, handed in our appointment letter and went inside and waited. Got called up and nice lady took our documents (new PC and medical) then we sat and waited again. We waited for another 15-30 minutes and then got called to another window but to guy this time. Well...the first 5 minutes were like hell. I attempted to tell him about the error we had on the application form and he stopped me and said to let him do his interview. Next he asked my husband why he only made $*** on his taxes and then hubby told him because of the way he files since he's an independent contractor, then guy then goes on to ask if he's admitting to committing fraud and hubby went on to explain further. He then asked him to step out and then he questioned me.

    How we met?

    When we got married?

    How many times he visited?

Why a guy my husband's age would send me a FB request. (Hubby is older by 14 years)

If he send me money and how much?

I gave him the WU receipts and then he went to the back and came back after a few minutes.

He asked me to step out and send in my husband.

He told my husband something seems off and I didn't convince him so he should try to convince him...well the Brooklyn in my husband came out then lol.

Hubby called me in again and this time the guy was all smiles and he said our Facebook account looks like our marriage is real (he had our accounts up on his system) and handed us the pink slip and said congrats! He also explained that he was just doing his job and we had some red flags so he had to do what he did. By then we were hugging and hubby was in tears, the guy then said to stop crying otherwise we'd make him cry too.

I'm just glad this is over with!!! Thank you so much to everyone of you for all the support and guidance I received!
