  1. One of the listed requirements is "Lease or Mortgage contracts showing joint occupancy oof your communal residence"
My house is paid off. The only loan I ever had on this house was a home equity loan that I entered into, two years before my wife arrived (Since paid off) We don't have any joint mortgage/HELOC accounts for the house.

We do have joint bank accounts, I have her as a beneficiary for dental on my employer's dental insurance. She has a separate healthcare plan, but bills to our joint address.

I have several bills that have our mailing address, and she also has paycheck stubs with her mailing address... But recently she stopped working because I got a new job that pays better and overlaps with her previous job's hours (and she needed to be at home to take care of our toddler)
We've also had a kid together, and have birth certificate for the boy.
We have Income Tax returns etc.
We have a lot of photos of us together.
We also may be able to provide medical bills that show us both as parents.

Any other recommendations on what to bring?

I sent in my packet in last week of October. According to my USPS tracking number packet was received on Oct 29. I have not gotten any sort of notification yet from USCIS. Check has not been cashed either. Is there any place I can create all this to create a timeline this process moves through ?

There is a Google Docs Spreadsheet.. but I have no idea where to find it. I'm sure someone will reply with the link.

  3. I just called the US Postal Service. They were able to verify that my package was in fact sent to the right POBox. I was under the impression, they don't do that... that they only can confirm it was delivered and not tell you where it was delivered to. Though, to be fair he didn't volunteer that information but merely asked me what address I had and told me whether or not it matched. It is a huge relief to know I didn't send it to the wrong address.

My wife was with me when we dropped it off, and she said she remembers double-checking. Guess we just have to wait until they cash the money order.

Then that's enough time to still get I-751 receipt notice. Even if it doesn't arrive by then, your wife can continue working for same employer: https://www.uscis.gov/i-9-central/complete-correct-form-i-9/completing-section-3-reverification-and-rehires

    Employers should not reverify:

    • U.S. citizens and noncitizen nationals
    • Lawful permanent residents who presented a Form I-551, Permanent Resident or Alien Registration Receipt card for Section 2. This includes conditional residents.
    • List B documents

My worry is that I have no way to verify that the USCIS has actually received it. My fear is what if it got delivered to the wrong Post Office box? What if I wrote the wrong number down?

I'm pretty sure I wrote it down the right way, but I'm horrified to find out that you can't use Tracking #s to look up what address you actually shipped the package to.

Is there another way to confirm that USCIS actually received it?

  5. I posted this in November Filers, but it should have been posted here. My wife and I filed for her I751. We finally were able to mail the packet on 10/28. According to USPS, it was delivered on 10/29.

My wife's Green Card expires on 12/18.

We still haven't received our NOA. We're getting really worried at this point. The Postal Money order still hasn't been cashed.
How do we verify it has indeed been received at the Lockbox?!

  6. I have my tax returns ready for the last three years, but none of them were signed. These were digital copies stored on my PC, that had never been signed. The signed copy was sent to the IRS, obviously.
Is it OK to send unsigned tax returns for evidence? I feel like signing them after the fact might be a no-no?

ETA: Nevermind. I think I'm going to use my Tax Transcripts instead.

@JFox762 rule of thumb is to provide copies of as many documents as you can from the date of the marriage (or even from the time when you were dating) to the present date. I have listed some of the key documents for you, I hope it helps!

    Facebook/Social Media posts
Not really wanting to share our FB accounts, because I'm worried that Federal Employees being human, some might be less professional than others and might facebook stalk me a bit and discover they really don't appreciate some of the opinions I've expressed on my FB.
My wife's FB is completely uncontroversial, on the otherhand as she just posts pictures of ourselves, our baby, and even things she's done around the house to improve the look and feel of the home.

It sounds thin.  They want to know you live together and share assets.  Affidavits are thin evidence.

You dont have joint car insurance? You dont share a home? (lease or mortgage)?  Health insurance you explained.  Life insurance beneficiary statement?  Retirement beneficiary?  Anything billed to her at your address to match things to you at the address?  Maybe her car/your car registration?  You need to bulk up if the above is all you have.

Even a joint cell account is good, I’ve used that.

    Joint credit card?

We have a joint Bank account. Wife also has State ID with address that matches our Driver's license. We also have medical bills that have been addressed to her home.

I didn't see joint tax returns mentioned...

You need SOMETHING to prove you live at the same address.  Your driver's license and your spouse's DL or State ID are the best, as well as job documentation addressed to each of you at the same address.

Definitely explain that you owned the house before you were in a relationship with her.  We had to do this, too.  We had no problems.  Many utilities will only allow one name on a bill - USCIS is used to that.  We used our cell phone bill, which had each of our names associated with our distinct cell phone numbers.

    Best of luck to you!

I also wanted to add that my wife's plan is actually bundled together with a female friend from Church. Previously, my wife had Straight Talk, as it was cheaper than adding her to my Verizon account... and would mess with the "Grandfathering" of my Verizon Data plan. They never sent any bills to our house, and I don't think they even had our address... as it was a prepaid phone.

A friend from church told her she could add her to her plan with T-Mobile, get Unlimited Minutes, more Data, and even Free Netflix. Kind of an odd arrangement, but at the time we were trying to reduce every little bit of spending we could.

So my wife does not have any recurring bills that arrive at our house.

We do, however, have a ton of Bills from Sonora Quest Labs/Labcorp, the Maternity Clinic, which show her address as being the same as mine.

We also have a ton of photos from our vacation to NJ, entertaining friends at our home (before COVID), and photos from a trip to Flagstaff, AZ.

You should include a cover letter explaining that and if possible, maybe add her to the deed and include as much evidence of living together as possible. It might have helped to switch some of the utilities in your wife's name, you could still try doing that. Definitely include her state ID in your evidence.

Isn't it a little late to be doing things like that? Even if I had her name added to the Utilities, it would take at least a month or so before she started receiving bills in her name.

Ooops... we have tax Transcripts. I'm pretty sure I have a copy of the 1040 we submitted.

I don't see any evidence for living together. Do you have a lease, mortgage, utility bills? IDs with the same address? Do you have joint credit cards? Car insurance? Life insurance (through work maybe)? Are you each other's beneficiaries on retirement plans?

How did you handle your finances before your wife opened her new account? They will want to see evidence of financial comingling prior to the account being open if it's a new account.

I wouldn't worry about having separate health insurance. It's not uncommon at all and often makes more financial sense if both spouses work.

Only use affidavits if you have no other good evidence. I think the rest of your list is good but you definitely need some evidence for living together.

Well... the bills are addressed to both our addresses. But the only bill that would have her name and my name is the Healthcare plan...
My wife also has a State ID, (no driver's license yet), with our home address here.

We don't have a mortgage. I owned my house before I ever met my wife. I have a home equity loan on the house, and nothing else... but that loan was granted before my wife and I started dating. Utility bills? Again, all of them are in my name.
I'm still working on getting Life Insurance for us.

We *MIGHT* be able to get paycheck stubs from work that have our address on them.
