  1. Congrats on getting the visa!!! I do have a question about your process though..... We'll be filing the I-129f in a few weeks in hopes of being in the US no later than next July, but I noticed your timeline indicates over 1 yr from start to finish, when I saw that others got their visa in less than 9 months or so... was there anything in particular that resulted in taking over 1 year, it seems like such a long time for getting a fiance visa!!!

    Thanks

    whoooooohoooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

got the visa today in Montreal - Montreal is a breeze!

to all of u still waiting - good luck, and don't worry in the consulate, the ppl working there are extremely nice!

    thx for all the support

  2. I think I might be ahead of myself!!! I knew that we would be applying for a K-1 so I went ahead and got my police records from when I lived in Europe when I was 16-19 yrs old. I was told it could take time so I went ahead and applied for them, but surprisingly got them within weeks. But now I realize that my interview won't be for longer than 3 months..... does this mean they will be null and void even though I haven't been back to Germany and Switzerland in the past 12 yrs? I'm in Canada now and that police record will be within the 3 months time frame.

Is this something I should phone the Consulat about or does someone know anything about this?

  3. We haven't filed the I29f yet, as we just got engaged over the weekend and doing lots of research before we decide which visa we are going to apply for. Does anyone know what the direct implications of this new law is? What exactly is this thing anyway, is it simply an additional criminal background check on applicants? Geez, these people must really like to do paper work!!!

  4. My fiancé and I just got engaged in NYC this past weekend during Fleet Week!!! YEY...except that now I am stressed out with all this immigration stuff to go through. I am a Canadian citizen, he is a US citizen. I understand he needs to file a petition for me to get a K-1 visa... then I go down to the US, I have 90 days to get married..... no problem, we plan on doing this in December!! BUT- he is getting deployed overseas after we get married and I need to come back to Canada to sell my house, and I still have a job I want to stay in while he is overseas. My question is- after we get married, can I come back to Canada and enter in the USA 4-6 months later? I heard somewhere that I can't travel until my status changes, is this the case? HELP...

It sounds like you are not yet ready to immigrate to the US. Why don't you get married, return to Canada to live and work and work on a spousal visa process while your husband is away? With timing and luck, you'll have that finished by the time he returns?

A K-1 just doesn't seem very appropriate for your situation.

THank you for your reply!!! This is the information I was looking for... I want to get married int he US, come back to Canada and return in about 6 months when he is back from overseas.... a spousal visa is what I'll look into now! Thanks again

  5. I am soooo confused..... I posted on K-1 forum too, not sure where to go from here. Here is the deal:

My fiance who is American and stationed in VA and I want to get married in December (7months from now) in the U.S.... he is then being deployed for 4-6 months overseas and I want to come back to Canada to continue working until he gets back to the US.

Does we apply for a K-3 / I30 after we are married and hope that everything gets approved within the 6 month time frame, so that I can move down there when he gets back from overseas

    OR

Do I apply for a fiance visa -I29, get married within the 90-days and apply for an advanced parole so that I can travel back to Canada? Can I apply for advanced parole at the same time as my I-29 Visa? How does that work?

I live in Ottawa so plan on going through the Montreal Consulat.

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Thanks!!!

  6. I plan on going through the Montreal Consulat since I live in Ottawa.... but I am really confused as to what I should be doing... which visas I should be applying for? K-1 or K-3?

We want to get married in December in the US, and since I have to come back to Canada for 6 months while my fiance is deployed overseas then would I simply apply for a K-3 (spousal)? Would that work? How long does it take to get a K-3? Someone I know told me it toke him a year before he got his papers approved, I think that is soooo long!

    Congratulations on your engagement! (F)

I can't give you much advice on K-1 as I'm not well-versed with that particular visa. But I just wanted to ask you which consulate (Vancouver or Montreal) you think you'll be having your interview. The reason I ask is that people in Vancouver seem to be getting their interviews faster than the ones in Montreal. If you want to get married in December in the US, you may have to figure out if you'll make that deadline. Do you think you'll be able get through the entire process in 7 months? :( I hope so... but one never knows.

There's also this new law - IMBRA. It's just added security checks for K visa applicants. Anyway, I suggest you look at timelines of K-1 applicants in Canada as well as looking into the other types of visas.

    Good luck!

Edit: Sorry... didn't answer your question about travelling back to Canada but I think thai2luv is right.
