  1. Well, I just got back from my medical and all I can say is that those were 2 hrs in my life that I will never get back! Sigh.. :P

There were a million papers to fill out, then went to get blood tests done, (HIV &VDRL) then chest x-ray then back to the office to see the Dr for my apt. Had to strip and slip into one of those lovely paper gowns. She checked, vision, eyes, ears, throat, breast exam, reflexes, made sure I was female (no internal exam), took height and weight. I couldn't find my record of the first series of tetanus so she gave it to me for an extra cost of $10. And that was it! It went well, apart from the fact that I am an impatient person and hate waiting around....

I was there for exactly 2 hrs and it cost me $295 plus $13 parking. UGH. Just the price we have to pay to be with our loved ones!

Good luck to you all going for your medical apt. :P

  2. We saw each other over Canadian Thanksgiving, and I fly back down again for US Thanksgiving next week :D . Can't complain since we average about every 4-5weeks! But we are both getting ready for the long 6 month separation when he goes on deployment to the Gulf :crying: .....

  3. I also didn't want to rent a U-Haul truck to move my stuff because of the nightmare stories I heard. Instead, we are going to use my fiance's pick up truck and haul a U-haul trailer (12ft) cause he has a hitch. That way we are sure that nothing mechanical can happen. :P

  4. If I listed all the cities I lived in, it would be 3 pages long! :P

In a nutshell: Born in New Brunswick...lived all over NB till I was 10, then moved to Ottawa for 6 mo

Then moved to Hong Kong, then Switzerland, then Germany, now been in Ottawa since 1994. Iconsider OTTAWA home now.

Moving to Norfolk, VA next summer for 3 months where we'll get married.... then who knows where my fiance's next assignment will be??? we are keeping fingers crossed for RI! Nice and close to Canadian border :P

  5. That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming

    As fwaguy wrote

    when submitting for interview

    United States Department of State

United States Consulate, [name of country where Embassy is located]

    [Embassy Address]

fwaguy, you sure are one of the fastest people if not the fastest with the needed answers. I for one am very glad you are here helping.

  6. UGH- I'm gong to miss watching the Senators play. Somehow I doubt all their games are gonna be broadcasted in VA. :( Unless of course my fiance subscribes to all the sports channels...that would be too dangerous!

I'm hoping Trailer park Boys the movie comes to the DC area!!!
  7. Hi Karlita,

I also plan on travelling to the US prior to my actual "Move" next July. I simply won't travel with my passport with the visa in it. You can cross the border with birth certificate and driver's licence. If need be and you have to travel with passport, you just tell them that you don't want to activate it yet. I've heard of other VJ'rs do this. Hope this helps!

By the way, you prob won't get your interview until January anyway at this point in time!

  8. Check out the Montreal waiting room thread! This will give you an idea of how long things take. The last word from Montreal is that it takes 2-4 months to get an interview from the time that they get Packet #3 back. Hope this helps

  9. I was able to schedule the interview without the letter. But I do need to bring the letter that came in Packet # which has the file # on it. I think it's just cause they need the reference to to the file.

Mind you, my apt is Nov 15 and if I go there and they say, "sorry, we need to letter" I am sooooo going to flip out!!!

  10. We see each other once a month and the last 4 times, I flew down to see him. The Immigration officers never once gave me a hard time. Asked lots of questions about where I worked who I was visiting and where I was going. Most of the time they were more interested in what my fiance did for a living, last time when I told them he was an Officer in the Navy stationed in Norfolk and getting ready to deploy in January for 6 months he said something like "Good luck with that and God Bless". Weird.... The Ottawa border patrol are always really nice to me and even joke around which I find a relief! Oh and one of the guys asked me if I was bringing him any gifts and I was like......"ugh, no but now I feel bad cause you asked me that question, I better go to the duty free and get him something." LOL

I always travel with a thick folder with TONS of papers showing ties to Canada (my mortgage papers, letter from employer, paycheck stub, insurance docs, N0A2..... but never had to show anything).

  11. Mercy... Did you say FEBRUARY interview???? Holy moly!!!!! That's like 4 mths away for those like me who sent back the checklist in Oct. I think many of us in the waiting room thread are in that boat right now. That's incredible.... I guess with Thanksgiving and Xmas holidays, there will be some delays, but Feb sounds sooooo long from now. UGH :crying: My NOA2 will definitely be expired by then!!!
