  1. Heya-- just chiming in with a pet theory of mine that may be completely false. I'm not trying to start rumors or "this is how it will be for you", but rather maybe try to calm this paranoia if my theory is true....my thought is that if you answer "yes" on Question 15 "Has your fiance ever been in the United States", your NOA 2 comes in on or a little above average. REMEMBER: "average" is an average. Half of applicants will be faster and half slower-- it appears from anecdotal observation to me that the people who have been to the US before make up that "half will be a little slower" portion.

I've been around these boards for over a year and I have anecdotaly noticed that folks from VWP countries tend to come in a little at the "back of the pack" for their NOA1 date (and I first noticed it because at some people, certain individuals were being rather nasty about it. Being from the civilized world and all, vs all these probable scammers from banana republics).... My working theory is that generally people from VWP countries in relationships with US Citizens have been to the US before (right?). It also happens that I've observed (I have no data, but could probably collect it) that the faster approvals seem to be in cases where the beneficiary has not been in the US before (my own case included-- TSC was taking 7 months at that point, we came in at 5 months, 3 weeks).

My guess is that if you answer yes on 15, they have to send a request to CBP for your entries/exits or look at your ESTA application (or DS-160 if it was a B2 visa), making sure your responses on it and on your 129f are consistent etc. Slightly more work= slightly longer processing times? Maybe?

In this case, CSC is so blazing fast that your're looking at a margin of error of like 2 weeks which is diddly squat in the world of international relationships, immigration and marriage in general. Keep that in mind, keep an eye out and see if that makes any sense to you, too.

That is a very good theory, however, it will be difficult to prove unless we know if the beneficiaries who are still waiting for their NOA2 have/haven't been to the States and what they answered on the form. I had been to visit my fiance twice prior to submitting the I-129f and so the answer to that question was 'yes' but we also submitted all of my booking/flight documents relevant to those visits as part of our evidence. That said, I'm sure it would still need to be examined and checked against their records which yes, equals extra time. Never thought before it could possibly be to do with the questions (that one in particular) answered on the form.

  2. We got our NOA1 in late december, and just got our NOA2 last friday (hasnt actually arrived in the mail yet but I checked status online and it shows it was sent on the 19th). It was right in the estimated date range on my VJ timeline for the california service center. But some centers are faster than others.

Congrats on the NOA2!! Unfortunately, our estimated time has long passed, it was between 17 and 20 February but it is only an estimate. I've stopped looking at all stats and don't check USCIS anymore either, it was becoming obsessive and it's still early days. It will come.... just not fast enough!

  3. Hi, I just wanted to know if all filers could get NOA2?I'm patienly waiting mine too. I hope we all filers could get it. It just freaked me out reading some list in google that they didn't get noa2 for they were unapproved. I hope ours get smooth process. Sorry, I'm all new in the process. God bless to us!

Hi, I think you get informed either way. Buuuuut, think positive thoughts!

  4. The wait was horrible for me, too! Although it was our NOA1 that took a while. It didn't help at all that I was seeing actual visa approvals, not just NOA1s being issued, in the forums for applications that were filed AFTER we filed ours. And someone even told me that she was afraid our case might have been sent for a background check since everybody she knew who filed at the time that we did had all already gotten their NOA1. (I know, right??)

So basically, yes, everybody's case is handled differently, despite being in the same visa class, country, or service center. Some case workers are more thorough than others, so if your case lands on their hands, then it can take just a bit longer.

Everything turned out just fine, and I'm going in for my interview on March 28th. I completely understand how you feel, though!! I know I needed someone to reassure me that everything will be just fine (as opposed to feeding my paranoia!! I have enough paranoia to last me a lifetime, thank you very much.)

I drove myself insane!! I had been until a couple of weeks ago before going in for my medical. Don't do the same to yourself! ?

    Good luck!!! ?

Such kind words, thank you and absolutely spot on! It's good to hear how it works behind the scenes, that's quite reassuring because you do get paranoid thinking that there's something wrong with the application and you're going to be refused at the first step, and that's AFTER the paranoia of making sure you've got your petition absolutely bang on to begin with!

Oh and then there's the medical..... then the interview itself.... so I'm taking it one step at a time and I'm now just going to sit back and wait without (outwardly) panicking.

Good luck with yours!! I will be keeping everything crossed for you also, I hope you sail through and I see your approval on the timeline on March 28th and we can do a happy dance.

  5. It's as if the NOA1 triggered every panic button! As much as I've read the forums every one is different. When you want something so much and it's our lives in someone else's hands, scary.

I will sit back and enjoy the ride. Feel free to pm me if anyone wants. Thank you for your support.

  6. We're in the same seat, NOA1 on January 4th and we're not able to check our case status on their website, app or via costumer service. We just get "case not found with USCIS" when we try to check it. So you're not alone. :)

They have it though, right? You just can't check it? That would freak me out. I hope it still goes through ok and it's just an error on their system with your receipt number. Keeping everything crossed for you.

  7. Hey,

I know this has been posted NUMEROUS times on the forums but I can't let go of it. I have tried weed a couple times in my life. About 2-3 years to be exact. Never did it again, nor do I want to. I don't do drugs and never have.

My fiance and I are turning in our application in a few weeks and I'm really worried about the medical exam when it comes to drug questions. I was stopped in November 2015 by the police and I had to take a urine test due to suspicion for drunk driving. Everything came back negative, only the weed had the most minimal trace which they (the cops) explained to me is normal.

Will this end up in a denial and ban? Or should I just stay quiet. I'm really scared.

If there's one thing I have learned from this forum is that honesty is the best way. If anything comes up and you have to gather evidence it won't look good that you've hidden it. Go prepared with everything to back you up. You need a police report anyway and if you can get something in writing from your doctor then that should help too.

  8. No need to worry. As your case is at California Service Center it will be seen to much faster than those who used to be stuck/are still stuck at Texas Service Center. CSC usually handles cases within a few weeks to a few months, so I'm sure yours will be in the pipeline shortly. If you have waited over the standard processing goal of 5-6 months, then be concerned.

Ah, thank you. Just needed that little bit of reassurance, so easy to freak out over nothing I'm realising!

Love your timeline by the way, great to read detailed information.

  9. Hi, this is my first post here but I've certainly been scouring through the posts, stats and timelines!

I know I shouldn't be, and I know what the answer is, but I can't help myself... I'm really anxious that we haven't received our NOA2 yet, is anyone else worried? We did receive our NOA1 on January 4 and noticed that there's been some around the same date and later that have already received theirs.

I'm seriously having a word with myself for fretting but this is by far the most anxious situation I've found myself in!

  10. Hi, I'm wondering how you got on since posting this? I'm really interested in hearing your story as it's very identical to my own, although my experience was 11 years ago and had actually forgotten about it having moved on and put all that behind me.

I'm early in the process, waiting for NOA2 but the medical and past history with depression and silly OD is getting me nervous.
