  1. Wow, you must have had one of those rednecks. I guess it's just luck when you apply for these visas. You made an excellent move by getting your senator involved and you will come out on top if you stay persisted. I think they are only testing your resolve. Good luck.

  2. Hoping you DC members are getting together.......still looking to do the same

    here in St.Louis metro.

At least change emails and phone numbers to start with.

It is sometimes difficult to talk about this with friends who don't have a foreign SO, they are clueless and you get this 'really ???' stare. So support is great from those who

    experience the same issues.

At the same time the SO can discuss our western ways together with others and

know that they are not alone with their frustrations in this country.

Everyone is welcomed to share their experiences of dealing with the cultural differences between them and their spouse. And PLEASE don't get me started on the difficulties of talking to friends and acquaintences. I'm so grateful for having a very good friend, who is from Africa and is married to an american, who's given me tons of guidance.

Again, if there are any couples in the DC/VA/MD area who are interested in meeting up, please PM me. Also, once I create a meet up I'll post it here on VJ.

    Hi southernchic,

It seems to me that you are a very good woman, who is willing to do her best to make her marriage work. But on the other hand everybody on this board is only hearing your own side of the story. But as a west african male, i can tell you that all black males have one thing in common. " they all want to be treated like a king ". Even if he doesn't deserve it. There is a difference between practicing a culture and using the practice to take advantage of women. He needs to make adjustment and realize that he lives with a woman who did not recieve training in his culture. If he continues to quote his culture on every issue, then he is not ready to make compromises and learn. United states is full of different cultures, and if everybody is stuck on their culture there would be too much chaos and confusions. Sit him down and show him your own southern culture and don't forget to let him know that you are his wife not a friend that he can just take advantage of. Marriage= 'give and take'. Most west african cultures are considerate and can adapt, most and not all. Some west african cultures are just straight selfish. Goodluck.

  5. Segun's interview today was mostly a lot of waiting. He said once he was finally called after waiting almost 6 hours the interview was fast. His CO was a woman and she first asked for his paperwork. He also gave her the file I had prepared. Then she asked some basic information about me from it such as my name, DOB, where I work, what type of work I do. He said the CO would look at the papers then ask a question from them. She then asked some questions about his son who was not present(we did not intend to get his son a visa today but he was included per instructions). She asked him to hand over his passport, birth certificate, police report and medical results. He gave her everything except the medical results but he did give her the receipt where he had taken his medical. On it was the date when the results would be available. She told him he should return within 2 weeks after the medical resultsare in to have his visa issued. She gave him an appointment date and a form that would allow him to get in.

As has been said before each interview/interviewer is different. For his she never asked to see any pictures at all....not a one(here we were stressing about them wondering if we had enough). She was impressed with the folder I had put together and she looked through that a lot. He didnt say if she asked to see our emails, IM's or phone records but since they were in the folder she may have just looked at them.

On a side note Segun did say there were a lot of people there for tourist visas and they all were rejected. Also he saw a man on a K3 visa get rejected because he could answer the simple question of who filled out his forms. He said he did but as it turned out the man didnt even know how to write. The CO said that the marriage was a sham and rejected the guy. Another guy was rejected because his police report was too old.

I hope this helps everyone. Next......MASTERPIECE....

    Good Job Neya !!!

  6. :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

I just got off the phone with Segun and he was approved for his visa. He will receive the visa once he gets his medical results in to them. Apparently the labs are very backed up with visa medicals and his results wont be ready until next week.

He had a very long day at the consulate and didn't give me a lot of information. He arrived at 7:00am and didn't leave until after 3pm. I will update this thread with his interview details later.

    Neya

I'LL DRINK TO THAT !!! NEYA Congratulations !!!:dance::dance: May God bless your union !

  7. I am not part of your family, but thanks for the info

Ursy, What is wrong with you?? why are you so sarcastic?? You must think you got it going on so bad !! Look here nobody give a SH@#$ about whoever you claim to be. I've seen some of your post here and it's one sarcasm after another. When i said family, i mean VJ family not some zombies. Bye phony and get a grip !!!

  8. Hi Family,

My fiancee just got approved today and it went smooth. She said the whole interview lasted only about 5 minutes. The guy that interviewed her did not even look at the E-mails, employment letters. He only flipped through the Bank statement, the pictures (about 32 Pictures) and the W-2 forms. He asked her about where we met, what i do for a living and how we met. She said he was very cordial, polite and friendly. He congratulated her and told her to come back and pick up her visa next week. She said there was another k-3 lady that got approved today. I think Lagos is changing their attitude. Thank you Everybody and Best of luck to us all.

  9. My fiancee just finished her interview and it was the easiest interview she ever had to do. She will pick up her visa next week. I'll give details soon. Thanks VJ family I love you immigration experts for life. Now i have to go get drunk, No driving though.:lol:

  10. Ananda emailed me this morning and told me that her interview was a success, she was approved.

She did not get into great detail (poor thing was dead tired) but I will try to post something about her interview experience after I speak with her tonight. From what I can tell, it seems to have gone very smoothly, and quite fast. I think she was only there for 2 hours or so.

There were a few other people from VJ going for they're interviews today, I can't wait to here from them today as well!

Thanks again to everyone that has helped us through this journey. It is greatly appreciated, and I'm sure saved us a lot of heartache.

She will be home on Saturday morning (L)

    :dance::dance: Congratulations :dance::dance:

  11. you have everything in other, but try amke make sure you have enough pics, i think 35 is not enough,

add more pics, cuz during my interview, the CO was asking for more after showing him 150pics.

and never give the CO any doc. expect he/she ask for it. Above all be confident and have faith.

I wish you all the best.

    Thanks Guys,

I thought we have enough pictures since our case is K1 not K3, we have not married yet and we only have dating pictures (About 35 of them). I met a guy that was approved with 10 pictures of him and his fiancee, his was k1 too.

  12. Please let me know if you have any suggestions, these are some documents we have prepared for the interview.

    - over 500 pages of vonage phone records and calling cards.

    - About 35 pictures

    -Affidavit of support

    -Employment letter

    - Bank statements

    - About 40 western Union reciepts

    - Check stubs

-- 2000-2005 Tax income return with an average of $32,000 except for 2004 that was $16,500 due to some other financial aids.

-- Travel documents to Nigeria in Jan,2006 and October, 2006.

  14. In Ghana you return packet 3 (forms filled in and checklist signed saying you have gathered the police report, birth cert, and other docuemtns) and then they give you packet 4, which includes medicals info, the DS-156 forms, and the appointment date letter. You bring the things from packet 4 (filled in) to the interview appointment.

Not sure how it works in Nigeria, but I'm sure you need to turn somethign in to get an interview date. Good luck!

Thanks felshen and sweetie. And by the way sweetie, My trip to Nigeria was sweet !!!

  15. Should not be a big deal. Someone i know had to return to the clinic a week after interview date. Interview was conducted and visa approved but not issued pending final review of the medical test. Apparently there were some shots needed and they had to be spaced apart.

Eventually after receiving the complete shots, visa was issued.

Incomplete vaccination is the usual suspect in such scenario when person is asked to return after a week or two. Sometimes the spacing can even be longer but usually this does not affect the outcome of the interview. It does delay, however, any plans of immediate travel after interview.

Are you bringing suya back or not?? Okay, fine...Chin-Chin then........

Just to add.. for information purpose only....the medical test can be conducted and concluded in a single day. This is the usual case when most vaccinations are complete (and records available) prior to the clinic visit.

    Thanks masterpiece,

Unfortunate TSA did not allow me to bring suya in :lol: They thought it was a security risk :lol:

  16. HELLO....I HAVE RENEWED MY PASSPORT..DO I NEED TO SUBMIT MY OLD PASSPORT TO THE EMBASSY? PLSS ANWER ME..THANKS

You can keep your old passport for reference sake but give your new passport to the embassy. And by the way, does your husband know that you dress like that ( suggestively) on the internet ???

As explained to me once, your old passport is still a source of identification. It's just not valid documentation for international travel. In other words, hang on to it. I always bring my old passport when I travel just in case I lose my current one. And . . . "suggestively"? I would say that is pretty typical filipina dress. I don't think it means anything, nor do I think it is suggestive.

WoW that looks pretty !!! yum !

  17. just wondering......Because my spouse wants two or three jobs and I keep saying "NO"!!!

He's first job is a correctional officer at the local prison........lol Don't know how he does it

Don't know how he doesit ?? Easy ! They are the easiest and safest jobs you can ever have. I've done it before and believe me you are safer in there than on the streets. Those prisoners are tamed in prison and subdued, also you have many other officers to back you up in case something rarely happens. They are very good for students too. Ask him and he will tell you that he feels safe and in control.

  18. I have a real strange situation here. I have been waiting for 4 weeks now for the NVC to get my case. Today when I called the person asked me what the first line of my NOA2 says. It says:

"The above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate."

When I told them that the person said that it will go straight to the embassy. When I said that isn't the usual order they said that some go that way. I called the USCIS and they said the same thing. I asked how I could track my case without a new case number and they directed me to the DOS. I called the DOS and they never heard of such a thing!!!

So here is my question. Please look at your NOA2. Does the first line say it's been forwarded to the consulate or the NVC? If it says the consulate has you gotten notice that it went to the NVC anyway?

    Thanks!

Gary, My NOA2 said it was sent to NVC and when i called Nvc 2 days later i recieved my case #. I recieved a letter from NVc that my case will be forwarded to the embassy, it was forwarded to the embassy 4 days later. You need to call NVC and get your case #. If you do not have a case # your case cannot get to the embassy. The embassies work by case #. Goodluck !

  19. :dance::dance::dance::dance::dance:

I can't believe it! I thought I was being so impatient....I received my NOA2 on 26 September (hard copy) and thought it would be weeks before I heard from the NVC about her visa. So this morning before I went to work, I emailed them asking if they had received my I-129F from Vermont. So I go check my mail a few minutes ago and there is a letter from them......stating that in one week the Embassey in Manila will receive my package and that my case was approved!!!! The letter was dated 2 October! Wow that was fast! I just wish I knew if she would be here before Christmas or not, but more importantly if her interview will occur before Christmas, as I am just about ready to buy a plane ticket there to spend Christmas with her. Wow, wow, wow!!! I read this forum 2-3 times a day, and I just want to say that my heart goes out to all of you that are still waiting.....I know it will happen! Take care all and God Bless! Stacy

Wow you broke the record!!! That was faster than the speed of light !!! Congratulations.
