  1. 1. A domestic partnership would not be considered a marriage, so no, I don't believe you'll need to show anything for that. Was the partnership legally dissolved? (Not actually sure about this one, but I'm sure someone will pop up with more info)

    2. Nope, gay couples are treated exactly the same as everyone else, so have no reason to take longer or need additional evidence.

    3. Not particularly - no need to do more than anyone else does.

    4. Nope, that he lives in Canada rather than France makes no difference.

Take a look at the guides section and read around on the forum, but you've got nothing extra you need to be concerned about.

    Good luck!

Yes, it was legally dissolved. I know it was not technically considered a marriage but I'm not sure if I should provide all the evidence about it before hand or possibly wait to be asked.

What I'm trying to do is minimize the time between the time I apply and the time she's actually allowed to move here. In Vancouver she has a shitty job where she can't use her degrees because of her canadian visa restrictions. Here she'd be able to get a better part time job while hopefully starts a grad program. Unfortunately her lack of residency will make grad programs more expensive so the sooner she's here the sooner she can establish residency and less money we have to borrow.

  2. When gay marriage was legal in the State of California I entered into a domestic partnership instead of a marriage. When it asks about previous marriages and when they ended, does that include domestic partnerships?

Also, do visas for gay couples take any longer or require more proof?

Also also, if we wanted to be absolutely superfragislistic sure that the process was as easy as possible should we just inundate the application packet with highlighted evidence and a timeline of events?

Lastly, If my fiancee is from France but living in Vancouver, Canada does that make the process longer?

    Thanks!

    Lucy - USC

Julia - French with Temp VISA in Vancouver CA
