I assume you have renewed your passport since the age of 18, have you had to submit your mother's naturalization certificate each time?
Good luck
No, I only had to do that when renewing at age 18 since I was going from a minor to an adult passport.
With the current system, I will only have to do that as an adult IF i forget to renew my passport and it expires. If I apply for a new passport after it expires then I will have to submit a citizenship certificate.
I assume that I can submit my mom's naturalization certificate with an explanation letter but I don't want to keep relying on that.
Usually when I renew my passport I have to send in my expiring passport for cancellation. At which point, I'm left with no legal documentation. Then I'm waiting for my new passport to come in.

I am a US citizen who acquired citizenship through my mother almost 20 years ago as a minor. However, my parents never received a certificate of citizenship for me. They don't recall applying for one but got a US passport when I was 12 years old. I renewed my passport when I turned 18 and I remember having to submit my mother's naturalization certificate for it. Since then, I've always kept up with my passport because it's my only proof of citizenship.
I'm now in my 30s with only a US passport and my foreign birth certificate. I decided to apply for the N600 and have submitted every document I could find from back then.
I don't have my mother's birth certificate but it's something they ask. Has anyone here been in this particular situation or have knowledge as to what I can expect?
I fear that I just lost $1170. But I don't think I can rely on my mom's naturalization certificate forever.
Thanks for reading.

I have filed for my father and I am working on the I-864 form. I am planning to be the sole sponsor since my income is sufficient. However, my husband and I filed as "married filing jointly" so it also shows his income on our tax transcript. So do I need to include his income in the annual household income? It looks like it's asking for just the total that's being used for sponsoring. Any help is appreciated.

That specific requirement is met by your parent because there are no derivative applicants on a petition for IR-5.
Ok, great. Thanks.
But what about the income part? We both earn income so if we filed MFJ, does that disqualify me from using the EZ form?
-
Filed for both my parents with separate I-130 forms. One has been approved and one is still pending. I was doing the affidavit of support form for the approved one and I didn't know which form to use. One of the requirements for the EZ form is that "I am using my own earned income". Does that mean if my husband and I filed MFJ (married filing jointly), that's not acceptable since it includes spouse's income? Also another requirement is that "the sponsored immigrant is the only person immigrating based on underlying visa petition". Since I filed for them separately, does that matter? Thanks.

Just filed I-130 for parents online. I assume this will take several months. Is the process generally the same as for spouse?
I see in the VisaJourney guide that it says "You will be notified by USCIS if your Form I-130 petition is approved or denied. If it is approved and your parent is outside the United States, he or she will be notified to go to the local U.S. consulate to complete visa processing."
So is there no processing with the NVC like there is for spouses? Has this changed?

Going to file for parents soon. Did you guys file separately for each parent online or were you able to do both under one case?
Just want to make sure they can both interview together if possible.

When she filed the online application, how did she answer the Spouse Citizenship portion? For instance, I included my husband's US passport page so I suggest walking with your US passport and your mom's naturalization cert just in case.
Yes, that's what we did and submitted the copy of the US passport online. No issues with that. Got biometrics done shortly after and not a word until now.
But the interview letter is specifically asking for a certificate of citizenship or naturalization certificate which is why I'm worried. We plan on taking my Passport plus my mom's naturalization certificate just in case.

You have a passport that is also proof of citizenship.I was probably 10 or 12 when I got my citizenship. This was many years ago. My parents did it and all I got was a US passport. Not sure how they went about doing it all. I never did apply for an N-600. Yes, it's expensive and I didn't think it was necessary since I have a passport. Not to mention, I don't have most of the information they're asking since I was just a kid when all this happened. I don't have a green card or information on port of entry. This was all in the mid 1990s.

So my wife finally got her interview letter for citizenship. I looked over the necessary documents needed to be taken to the interview.
We have all the documents except for one. It's asking for Spouse's naturalization certificate or certificate of citizenship.
I don't have those as I acquired citizenship through my mother when I was a minor.
I only have a US passport which is what we used when we initially applied for the N-400.
They never asked for anything else up to this point and now there's an interview date set.
Is this going to be an issue?
I also have my mother's naturalization certificate if that works.
Thanks for any help.

My wife had her biometrics appointments on March 12. So far we haven't heard anything.
When we check the case status on USCIS website, it still says "At this time USCIS cannot provide you with information for your case. Please contact the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 for additional information." It's been saying that since last year.
Any idea what that's about?

Got biometrics appointment letter today. It's on 3/12.

Got the 18 month extension today from CSC.

Well, it looks like May 2018 filers are just now getting their 18-mth extension letters. If you got NOA on 6/5/2018, then you have to wait your turn as you are a June filer.
We filed in early May but didn't get the NOA for a month. I'm just looking at the timelines. People with later NOA dates have gotten their extensions.
-
Hmm, any idea why folks that filed earlier at the CSC haven't got their 18 month extensions yet? Our NOA is 6/5 and still no word yet.

Hi
We are getting ready to file for Removal of Conditions in early Sept (2018) and I'm seeing that this can take more than a year-and maybe up to 18 months. So that would be around about Nov 2019 to Feb 2020 (give or take a few months). My husband will be eligible to file for naturalization in Dec 2019, so that would very likely be before getting the permanent green card. How does that work? Can he apply for naturalization before the permanent green card ? Does anyone have direct experience with this?
You can get started on it but the ROC has to be approved first. You have to file for ROC before that green card expires.
After that ROC is filed you can definitely apply for citizenship when eligible but again, that ROC has to be approved first.

I would say don't do MFJ now. Getting an ITIN is a chore. I looked into it but that's even more paperwork. You will take a hit on taxes due to filing separately. But you can always amend it later on and get some money back after your spouse gets an SSN. Whichever you decide to do, good luck.

He also had an active deportation order if I recall correctly, which failed to make the headline.
Wow, the media didn't report properly? I am shocked and appalled.

I had the same issue. Usually I file online with TurboTax but it wouldn't allow me to type NRA in the SSN field. I ended up going to a CPA and filed it as Married Filing Separately and he was able to type in NRA with his tax software.

Does anybody knows what is going on in California service center ?
Apparently they mailed out some green cards with the wrong expiration dates. At least, that's what I read last. They had to retract them and everything is backed up at that service center.

Been busy with moving. But we got our notice. NOA date of 6/5.
Also filed the AR-11 online for address change afterwards.
N600 question

Is that more recent? I thought I remember reading that if it's after expiration, you have to submit evidence. But if not, that's great.
She was foreign born but it was one of the documents they asked for.
I have thought about getting a card as well. It's a 10 year validity? Can they be renewed separately?
If this N600 application is denied, then I'm going to apply for the card.
