  1. Herro, and Happy Thanksgiving!

No updates from feastofroses, or dylan'swife?

    Hi Happyilycontent.

I had my oath ceremony on Nov 20th and was very happy to have my first Thanksgiving as a real American. The night of my ceremony we had a small celebration at a local pizza place where we were joined by close friends.

I also received my voter registration card in the mail.

Now I am waiting to go to the SSI office and update my info. I also changed my last name (I hyphenated mine and my husbands) so I have to get my id replaced and apply for my passport.

  2. If you are going to add your husband to your existing policy, it must be done within 30 days of his arrival otherwise you would have to wait for open enrollment next Nov.

That sounds about right. We did ours as soon as we were married, because a change of life status had to be done within 30 days of that event, else we had to wait until the next enrolment window opened (sometime in the new year). I updated my SSN with his HR as soon as we got it, too (your HR will no doubt want the same info as soon as it's available).

You are absolutely correct. Had I read the entire thread, I wouldn't have sounded so redundant ;)

  3. That's a stretch. It's a government process, which means it's slow to react, but that's not nearly the same as "corrupted."

I would argue that when they purposely pull new petitions out of the pile and process them prior to those that have been lagging for 6 months or more, so statistically they can manipulate the data to make it look like the processing time is almost cut in half, I would call that corrupt.

  4. I don't understand one thing.... you've been married to him for 10 years, you have children together and you let him stay illegal??? How come you never applied to adjust his status? 10 years is a long time... dry.png

I imagine that until the DREAM ACT, even if he was married to a USC there was still a chance that his immigration petition would be denied and that a waiver would not be granted.

  5. That is correct, there is no visa required to 'visit' between the two countries although that doesn't mean that someone would be admitted.

Who asked her these questions, was it the American CBP or Canadian board agents?

If I understand you, she is the USC and was re-entering the US? Did she use a passport? Maybe he was inquiring if she had a Nexus card?

  6. To the OP. I have a child with bone straight hair..I have a child with curly(when short) or wavy hair hair.

The wavy hair is harder to manage. I am sorry that you feel that the nurses comments were do to your child being bi-racial instead of just the particular texture of her hair....which can happen in any race.

I have a friend who has a bi racial child (she is white, and the father of her daughter is black). Her daughter's hair texture is more constant with someone who is bi-racial or black. My friend had to learn over time how to style and groom that type of hair because it was something she just wasn't use to before hand. Just because something is 'racial' doesn't necessary make it racist.

  7. Um..no. He's not a victim but you have got to be kidding me if you think Airport personnel don't treat asians/africans/middle eastern people as "less than worthy" than White europeans. It's so blatant that anyone denying it's existence is either a) in denial or b) has probably treated others with the same level of disrespect and can't face it honestly.

Racial profiling at the airport isn't exactly "news". I found it funny when they picked out the blondest bluest eyed person in the room to have their bags searched after they pretty much singled out every single brown person in the waiting area at Heathrow airport while coming to the States. Just so that they wont be accused of profiling. But it was profiling. Anyone with a pea sized brain could see that.

So the gate guy had a bad day while talking to an Asian but his day was going just fine when he was talking to the tall blond gentleman in front of you? Yeah right.

I am guessing you have never went through security at YYZ because if you had, you might have noticed that a large majority of the security agents aren't exactly lily white.

While profiling in general isn't exactly 'news'; (try asking an Irish Catholic who has ever passed through LHR during the height of the troubles) , I find your comment to be very limited and ignorant. YOUR experiences or perceptions are not the the beacon of truth or actuality.

Of course, feel free to attribute what YOU FEEL is a disparaging in treatment do to race...while willfully ignoring how FIRST CLASS/BUSINESS CLASS passengers (regardless of race) get expiated service since it doesn't help make your case. YEAH RIGHT.

  8. Be careful with the requirements a few years back someone on here from California arrived on a K1 ran up to Vegas to get married and got pulled over on the way home and got a ticket because California gives you 10 days to get a state licence after moving here.

I knew that it was 10 days in CA but the ticket being issued on a k-1 on the way home from 'eloping' seems like a grey-ish area since conditional residency on a k-1 is contingent on getting married , so I would have thought it would have been 10 days after the marriage.

haha that's true! smile.png well i'm glad you made it in alright

    me too...that was a FUN night :)

  9. oh that sucks! I see that only south korea makes it in the list in Florida. thank you!

You are welcome.:D The plus side is having state issued ID is always a good thing. I remember once I was visiting my husband (before I got my immigrant visa) and I went out to a club with some friends..and they almost didn't let me in because they don't accept out of state ID. But for the fact that I was clearly of age (34 at the time) and my friend knew the owner, I would have been bounced.

  10. Although, it might very from state to state, it is my understanding that the validity of one year for a International License is in regards to non immigrant visitors.

    Hi there!

My fiancé was able to get an international driver's license (he actually arrives tomorrow!) with no problem. It's good for up to 1 year (that's if you have a valid driver's license in your own country, of course).

When I lived in Spain, I was able to get an international driver's license as well through AAA. I don't know if they are available in Morocco, but I assume so- my "license' was really a small booklet that listed my information in tons of different languages and it was good for 1 year, as well. For it to be valid, you had to present the booklet PLUS your valid license from your country when driving.

  11. You are welcome. I honestly wouldn't fret over this too much (although delays are irritating), thankfully with biometrics they will be able to distingush your husband from his name sake.

Dylan'sWife, your comment brought tears of hope to my eyes heart.gif I know that every case is different but it's good to know that a swifter resolution is possible. Thank you so much for your reply.

  12. I was a front end operations manager for a large grocery chain in Canada and I made about 47k per year for an organization I worked at for 20 years. Since I have moved to the US I have been a SAHM but on a lark, I put an application in at Target to be a cashier for the holiday season ( I think it pays like $8 an hour) and I haven't even received call for a phone interview.

  13. That is so sweet. I too have had a lot of warm congradulations since I passed my interview and test yesterday. But the day of my oath ceremony, I think we will plan a little party.

Received text saying oath scheduled! Can't wait. When I went into work today they had bought me a cake to celebrate beoming a citizen, I didn't have the heart to say that I need to do the oath first! Happy.
