  1. When my wife mailed her I-751, she mailed it to Texas which is where the USCIS instructions online say to mail it.  The only 2 options I saw in the instructions are Texas and Arizona.

I am curious, for the folks who filed in Nebraska, Vermont, etc., did you mail your application there because it's the same place you mailed your I-485, or did you just pick a random center to mail it?

If it's random, I might have sent the package to Nebraska instead so it would get processed faster. Haha.

  2. My wife is SRC and didn't need Biometrics. Last month when I did the E request for the extension letter, I also requested the biometrics in the same request. The next week we received the extension and a letter that they would use the biometrics on file.

However only annoying thing is the myaccess site only shows the status as case received etc. It didn't update after the letters were sent out.

  3. Does anyone know if you have to get your passport stamped if you got a receipt text but nothing else?

I mailed my wife's docs on January 19

Received an SRC receipt number via text on the January 25.

Case status says the receipt has been mailed along with instructions on the next step etc. (also from Jan 25)

My wife's GC expires on March 4.  I won't be able to do an E-request until Feb 24.

I'm thinking an E-request might not be a good option since the NOA probably won't arrive until after expiration.

  4. I was up for hours last night reading the IRS website.  As far as I can tell, you might be able to avoid some of the penalty if you file separately using duel alien status.  However, if you file separately this way. both filers would have to itemize.  If the US citizen does not have enough deductions to itemize, then you would have to file joint (along with a statement from the spouse indicating that they want to be treated as a resident for the whole year)

My wife came in June, filed for AOS in August, and she still doesn't have her Green Card.  I'm gonna crunch the numbers tonight, but I think I'm going to have to file joint with her, and pay the penalty.

FYI, my employer's insurance did not allow my spouse to get on my insurance because she didn't have a Green Card.  Marriage wasn't enough of a qualifying event for them....

  5. My fiancee applied on June 17, and we are still waiting. She called the local office today, and they told her they were waiting on immigration to say it was ok to give her a ss#. They said that process is 2 to 4 weeks. I hope they did it right. When she apolied, the SS guy said she was in the system.
