  1. Hello. Thank you all for your comments.

I am sorry that my story may not make sense. As it was a long time ago, I may be missing some details... I had a hard time at that time and my memory is vague.

But I am sure that I had a green card. He didn't give it to me, but showed it to me by taking a picture of it. The reason I expected to get it back was, I visited Guam for vacation last year and the immigration officer said my green card was still valid. I thought it was weird as it should have expried. On their record I was a green card holder but they let me in with the visitor status. That is why I visited the immigration office last week to know what my current status is and if I can get it back. I agree with you guys that I won't be able to get it back most likely, but the immigration officer said it has a small possibility after checking our record. He may be wrong, but it is worth to try.

I was the one who left him and understand how much he was hurt and too emotional to let the green card go, so I just gave up on it. Also, I decided to stay in Japan for good even though I always wanted to go back to the states as my family was against our marriage AFTER they approved it and we got married. When I visited him last week, it was my first time in a long time that I could sleep deeply. He makes me happy. Also, I am comfortable to be with his family while I feel awkward to be with my family... I am not really happy when I am in Japan.

We would have to start over the long process, but I am fine with it as I still have a lot of things to take care of here. Time will fly fast.

I appreciate all of your advice and will post if I get any updates :) Good luck to everyone!

  2. Hello. Actually I am surprised that you think that I was not supposed to have a green card. I studied and followed the procedure, and got one without any issues.

After your comments, I looked over my passport again and noticed that I entered the states with my K-3 visa after it was issued. I went back to Japan after spending a week there due to my work, but was it considered as I lived in the states and issued me a green card?

Another problem came up to me. I-751 requires a copy of a green card. My ex lost my green card or forgot where he stored as it was a long time ago. He keeps everything he gets and I doubt that he lost it, but I am not sure if he will be able to find it... Am I really screwed now? :(

  3. You say you were in the USA recently. How did you get in?

Hello everyone, thank you very much for your comments.

I used to be an international student in Oklahoma and that is how my ex and I met. After my graduation, I went back to Japan and we got married in Japan after 6 months. So actuallly I have never lived in the states after marrying him, but I have visited Oklahoma for vacation several times after the divorce. I just get in the states with the VWP status. When I visited there last week, it was my first time to get in without a problem. Before that, I was always stuck at the immigration office and they asked me so many questions before letting me in.

I know it is a small possibility to get a green card again, but it is worth to try. Please let me know if you have any other ideas. Any comments are appreciated.

    Again, thanks!

  4. Hello. This may be off topic here, but I would really appreciate it if someone can give me some advice.

I was once married to a U.S. citizen and we divorced soon after my green card was issued. It was mailed to his place in the states but he didn't wanna hand it to me back then, so I gave up on it.

Three years have passed since the green card was expired. My ex and I are kinda back together now and I visited an immigration office if there is a way to get my green card back during my stay in the states last week.

The officer said a divorce doesn't always affect the rejection of renewing a green card, so I should have filed for removing the condition. It took me too long, but still there is a possibility. He told me to get all the paper work we submitted and visit the consulate in my country as I had to leave the states within the week. Today I went to the consulate with all the paper work but the security guy told me to contact the embassy. I live far from the embassy and just cannot visit there and have them check my paperwork. Also, I have contacted the embassy before but they were not really helpful.

I still like to be with him, but I wanna take it slow and don't wanna get married again yet. Does anyone know the same case as mine? Do you think I still have a chance to apply for the green card? If so, is filing I-751 Petition to Remove the Conditions of Residence the correct way? It doesn't have to be a green card, as long as I can legally move there and work until we are ready to get settled again. Also, my ex is willing to help me on the process.

Thank you in advance for your help.

  5. Thank you for your reply.

What will happen to my green card? Will I lose the right to keep it?? I am planning to get a student visa and go back to the States to finish school, and I heard that it won't be easy to get a student visa after divorcing a U.S. citizen. I am wondering if I still have the right to keep it...

    Thank you.

  6. My husband in Oklahoma and I are going to divorce. We have been married for 2 years and 3 months. We don't have any properties and kids. We turned in our marriage paper in Japan, and I got a green card three months ago. I am currently in Japan for my job and we have never lived together since we got married.

My questions are, we are going to turn in our divorce paper in Japan. Will it be considered as we are offically divorced in the United States as well?? Or we still have to see a lawyer and finish the process at the court in the U.S.? I learned from the consulate website that in America, there is no divorce by agreement, but since we married in Japan and will divorce in Japan, I don't know if the case applys to us.

My husband talked to a laywer and sent me a paper to get it notarized so I don't have to be in the U.S. when he files for a divorce. Marrying in Japan is considered as we are officially married in the U.S., so I don't see the reason why we have to go through the court to divorce when we are officially divorced in Japan...

I have been reasearching for those but can't find any answers. Anyone knows about this well? Please give me some advice.

    Thank you.

  7. Hello. I will have my visa interview for CR-1 in two weeks, and I have a question.

My husband and I are planning to buy a house, and I would like to visit him for a week to look for a house together after the approval and come back to Japan until the house is ready. Is it possible for me to do it??

If I remember correctly, the green card will be mailed after I arrive in the U.S. right? That means do I have to stay there for a few weeks?? I cannot leave my job for over a week... I would like to come back to Japan and keep my job until the house is ready and I am ready to leave Japan, probably for 6 months or so. Will it be a trouble if I do that??

Sorry if it was a confusing question. Could someone give me some advice??

    Thank you.

  8. I have a social security number since I was in the United States as an International student before. I don't know my A-number and asked my husband to look at the paperwork we have received so far. He said that I don't have an A-number since I have a SSN. To make sure, he called NVC for me, but they said they have no information about our petition since it was already transferred to the embassy. Is it true that I have no A-number? If I remember correctly, I have to fill out my A-number on some forms when I receive a packet from the embassy. right? Can I just fill out my SSN??

    Thank you.

  9. I was reading the Guides on top and noticed the instruction is different from what we are doing. My husband just got a packet of I-864. He is sending it back to NVC by tomorrow. That means I don't need another I-864 to turn in when I have an interview at the embassy, doesn't it?? Or do I need another one? I want to make sure on that.

Thank you in advance for your advice :)
