    SSN question

    OK, I have had my SSN since I was 13 years old. I was previously a legal resident from 1983-2002. So, I have had my number for years. I now have AOS pending and am wondering when I need to change my last name on my SSN. Do I wait until I get my GC or should I do it now? I'm confused.

    do it after the greencard, otherwise it is still temporay and " valid only with work authorization." You would only need to change it again, and I know one can only change their name so many times. Im also waiting for mine to go and change to my married name. :)

    So,

    i recieved an RFE for a new medical as DHS lost the last one.

    Had all results faxed over from Australia, including clear negative HIV, syph, Chest X-ray results etc...

    went to civil surgeon, who took all my results ( 6 months old) and wrote me a new I-693 .

    Just recieved the new RFE, FOR MEDICAL!!!!!, saying the doctor did not perform a skin test for TB..

    It tells me to return for a skin test and IF that Skin test is positive a chest xray should be done??!!!

    welllll if DHS had not lost my original medical which was based on the chest xray I would not have this problem, would I??

    So, should I make an infopass? or just get another TB test? ($$$$$)

    yup it was me, I got the same RFE. ( word for word)

    I had copies of my negative HIV, Syphillis, Tb tests and all titre tests showing immunity to diseases I didnt have vaccinations for faxed from the panel Physician in Australia. Took all that with my DH - 3025 vaccination sheet to a civil surgeon who kindly transcribed all those results ( as they were only 6 months old) onto the I-693 , sealed it etc..... for $140.

    We had exactly the same kind of wedding and while it seems we will not have an interview at this stage, we will eventually .Surely you've had cards and emails sent from friends and family congratulating you on your day???? I made sure to tuck all mine away in a safe place. I would think that the acknowledgement of your big day by those nearest and dearest to you from miles away are valid evidence. :thumbs:

    oh DUH sorry just realized that you are talking about a ceremony in Canada! i read it all wrong!

    You keep saying what they should have done. Sorry, but you can't say that because you weren't there. Again, YOU WERE NOT THERE. It's easy to be an 'armchair QB' and say everyone should have charged him.

    Most people rarely experience any more violence than what they see on TV. I can watch the most violent rubbish (fiction)and not even flinch. Yet I hear the smack of flesh in a fistfight and feel sick. Worse is the time I heard a theif being beaten to death by a mob with nothing more than planks of wood .

    Ok so im a female, maybe my programming is different but Ill let you know can happen when faced with violence.

    When up close ( gun in the face, has happened twice) absolutely NOTHING, You feel your entrails freeze, then sink to your feet, which cannot move. You have no legs either. You stand there with your mouth hanging open while every fibre of your being says run, you cant.

    When violence is impending... ie. bombs ( happened during a military coup taking place, ) an AK47 fight outside my house ( police squashing an uprising) all that you can think is about RUNNING or getting yourself well hidden or somehwere safe.

    Now had it turned into a fight or die decision, I dont know what I would have done??? Luckily in my case the gun in the face incident did not escalate, but all these posers in the media this last week, " well why didnt they do this" or " why didnt they do that" pfft,...... oh please.

    Hi Hampster,

    sorry to hear about your dog, you made me cry :crying:

    I brought my dog with, but we were living in Asia so a bit closer and he was a lot younger...

    Thanks for getting the Fax again, Joan sent me the docs I needed this morning. She was great. She said she could send all of the medical, but I dont want to wait 2 weeks for the snail mail as it must be " sealed" and THEN go to a CS anyay to get the vacc transcribed. SO I got proof of all my negative results and immunity to take to Civil surgeon's tomorrow, she will write up a new medical without having to redo blood tests etc... Itll be on its way to CSC tomorrow afternoon!!!

    goodluck with the flight, just a note to everyone, I booked my flight online through the Thai Airways website .AS I'd closed down all my bank accounts my dad got me an associate credit card from his account so it would have my name on it... it turned out MUCH cheaper than going thru a travel agent. I gave him the cash then tore up the card here in the US Saved me about $1000 AUS. at that time.

    After numerous searches of RFE posts I was amazed by how many differently worded " standard responses" there are( I never found one the same mine) and instructions by phone calls and info pass appointments on how to address them.

    This thead is intended to give people a reference source, hopefully find a copy of their own RFE and how it was best dealt with / or the outcome.

    Please post your RFE response, what inquiries you made or instructions you were given, and if applicable the end result.

    so to mine:

    "A review of our record indicates that you entered the US pursuant to a valid K1 nonimmigrant visa.

    However, the Department of State did not forward the medical forms DS-2053, DS-3024, DS3025 and DS-3026 that were completed prior to visa issuance.

    OR

    the record shows that over twelve months of time have transpired since you were medically examined in conjunction with your K1 entry.

    Therefore you are requested to submit the aforementioned I-693, Medical Examination of Aliens Seeking Adjustment of Status, completed by a physician on the list of civil surgeons approved by USCIS. "

    INQUIRY: Call to USCIS informed me that it is definitely a lost case and stressed to follow the instructions exactly. I asked about the confusion between 693 and 693A. ( I only submitted DS -3025)He said not in this case if all the documents are missing.

    ACTION: I'm getting a new medical!

    for australians moving to usa on K1 visa, is the australian moving, required to disclose assets/liabilities in sydney interview or on any forms?

    can anyone provide a list of questions??

    As Long as your affidavit of support meets the criteria you do not need to mention your assets.

    sorry to hear about the RFE...they dont realise sometimes that this kind of incompetancy put a hold on your life and your damm pocket...

    its a shame when this kinda thing happens they cant arrrange your medical and pay for it being it was their fault in the first place that it was lost..

    good luck to you mate..where did you have your medical done ..i got a full copy of my medical when i got mine done in melbourne..

    gday Kath, I just answered your PM

    I had mine done in Adelaide. I did fax ( speedy HAMPSTER found the number for me, cheers mate) them and ask for my " all clear' TB note ( I still have x-ray) and a copy of negative HIV / syphillis results and copy of titre test showing " immune" to everything.. Thats enough for the doc here to write me up a new medical without redoing all those tests. I thought about asking for a full copy, but the RFE states very clearly to go to a US civil surgeon ( even though I realize its a standard response) so Ill just get it done...

    I did give the USCIS number call , he apologized a lot and said yes that definitely sounds like a lost medical and the only he thing he could advise me to do was EXACTLY what was stated. The nice Doc I spoke to said they should manage it for about $140.. maybe even a bit less...( with all the other tests etc would have been over $300) so Im just gonna go. Im paying for a speedy resolution !
