  1. Thank you so much for the help. I have gone and downloaded the instructions to get the name changed on her Green Card.

To answer everyone elses comments and or questions. She is trying to get the name on the Green Card changed over to my name. She has already had her SS Card changed and her military dependant ID card also reads the same as the SS Card. We just need to get the Green Card changed so that her drivers license will also have the name change. Seems in Colorado the drivers license will use the name on the green card regardless of what your SS Card or other Governemen ID's say.

How to renew or replace your green card - from USCIS website (PDF)

I can't get the website to open because it keep saying: "This Content Component encountered an error" whatever that means but, basically if the Green Card name is wrong and it is an error by USCIS, you can file for a new one at no charge. If it is due to a name change you pay the costs. Check the boards for more info as I think that other people answered the question in more details.

What it means if they issued it in the maiden name instead of the married name, I don't know as I don't know if it constitutes an error.

Hope that helps (albeit only a bit)

    Annie

which is the maiden name, the one on the card or on the ssc, if her maiden name is on her ssc go to change the ssc for her married name to be the same as the green card

Doh, I never thought to ask that...

  2. Just curious, how does one know whether the AOS application is approved and name check is cleared?

We had our interview and overall it went good. The officer was very professional and courteous. We were asked for paperwork to show proof of our relationship, medical work, etc. At the end of the interview, we were told verbally that our application was approved and we should get the card in a couple of weeks. Does this mean the name check has cleared? Are we supposed to get any other written letter or something? Is there anything we can or should do at this point?

    Thanks for any help.

You should be gett9ing a letter in the mail saying that you will receive your Green Card Shortly, I think ouors arrived in just under 2 weeks!! Congrats!!!

  3. My wife and I had the Green Card interview on July 2nd and everything went very very smoothly. To say that I was a little nervous the weekend prior to the interview would be an understatement. I was a nervous wreck all weekend.

Well all my worrying was for nothing, the interview itself was very very easy with very little questions. All she asked was our birthdays, home address, & home phone number.

I will say that according to our interviewer the most important thing for her was seeing pictures of the wedding with family involved. In her own words, "People will not have a fancy wedding with family and guests if the whole thing is fake." So be sure to include lots of wedding photos as well as photos with family.

On another note, remeber to get the medical stuff taken care of a few weeks before the interview, and if you have a copy of the vaccinations prior to entering the country, take those with you to the doctors office. It will save you quite a bit of money.

  4. My fiance arrived on a K-1 visa in October 2006. We applied for a social security card in her maiden name and received it. Then, we married in December 2006. Her I-94 expired in early January. We just went to the social security office to change her last name. The office told us that she can't change her name, because her I-94 is expired. They said that we must wait until she has a green card from immigration or get a new I-94.

How can we get a new social security card with the last name change? Do we have to wait for the green card?

I just expirianced the same thing yesterday at the Social Security Office, except in out case the Visa does not expire until the 14th of Jan, but the lady said that since it was within 2 weeks of expiration that they can not make the name change and we would have to ask for a new I-94 or wait for the Green Card.

Has any one else had this experience, and if so, what is the quickest way to get her name changed now??

  5. Hi everyone, Luisa's K1 Visa expires the 14th of this month, my question is what happens if I do not get all the paperwork completed and mailed before the expiration date of her Visa?? We got married last weekend and already have the Marriage Certificate on file with the State of Colorado. I am trying to get all the forms filled out and mailed this week, but there is alot of info to compile and fill out.

Specifically right now I am waiting for her mom to fax me a copy of the Birth Certificate (seems we don't have a copy with us) and I am trying to find this I-693A form. All the other forms are complete and ready to mail.

Argh!!! I thought the first part of the process was stressful, this is alot of paperwork still left to complete and it seems like more months of waiting for everything to be completed.

  6. Yea!!! Luisa had her interview today and everything went well, she will go back tomorrow to pick up the actual paperwork.

The interview process went really smoothly, she arrived at the embassy around 6:00 AM and by 6:30 they started to let people inside. The actual interview took about 10 minutes and the guy asked a few questions about my family, about her english and nothing more. They did not ask to see the mountain of paperowrk we compiled has proof of relationship, infact he did not ask to see any of the paperwork she brought.

I will post more info about what to expect once Luisa gets here, since she will nknow better than I what exactly happened and how long it took.

Now all that I need to do is purchase my plane tickets to see her, and return to the US with her hand in mine!!

  7. We have worked very hard to have all the requested paperwork, in fact she has printed out around 250 emails, has all my phone records for the last year, hotel receipts, airplane receipts, engagement ring receipt, flower receipts, cards, bank transactions (wire transactions to her account), and photos. I really hope whoever conducts her interview is in a good mood!!

The printing out of emails is really overkill. Even the Emabssy people say DO NOT put a bunch of email print outs and evidence of relationship in to the initial folder which the consul will use to decide on issuing a visa. They merely tell you to hold on to the information so IF they ask you for it they can view it. I selected about 10 emails throughout the 1 year time period most of them in the beginning half since I did not have much other evidence of phone conversations during that period.

Thanks for the insight, I guess you could say that both Luisa and I are "sofoco" Luisa has all the paperwork that I mentioned with her right now and she is planning on taking it all to the interview in the morning!! I only hope now that she does not get the lady the rejects all applications that I keep reading about!!

Well I will be sure to post the news, hopefully good in the morning!!

    Carl

  8. Thanks so much for sharing!!! I loved reading it...thanks for including all of the details!!!

Thank you so much for all the info!! Luisa has her interview in the morning, and we are both very nervous!! I hope she does not get that lady that denies every visa! Seems like I have read quite a few posts about this lady in recent weeks!! I will be sure to let everyone know how everything goes as soon as I have news!!

  9. First, I want to wish you a big congrats!! I am very very happy for both of you!!

I am lalso ooking forward to any helpful hints you might be able to share about the interview process, Luisa has her interview on the 3rd (next Tuesday) and we are both a bit stressed about the whole thing right now.

  10. Can anyone tell me if they allow you to take your cell phones with you to the embassy in Bogota?? I remember going to the Japanese embassy to see a friend last time I was in Bogota and they had lockers out front that you could store personnal items before actually entering the embassy. Is the US Embassy similar? The reason I ask, Luisa has her interview on Tuesday, and I was hoping that she could call me as soon as the meeting was over to tel me how the interview went.

  11. Yipppeeeeee one more step closer to the Visa!! Luisa finished her medical appointments today in Bogota! Anyone gong thru the whole Visa process in Colombia that has any questions about the medical process, feel freee to drop me a line!!

Hi, I will go next week to Bogota, did she need extra vaccines? Let me ask you somethign else, did you have to fill a extra copy of affidavit support, W2´s form 1040 of the past 3 years and a letter from your employer? We send this to the NVC, but they are asking it again at the appointmet...thanks!!!

    Karem

Yes, Luisa went to the local Red Cross office over the last few months and got all her shots that were listed on the Embassy Web Page, so when she went to the medical exam she simply had to show the shot records.

As far as the Affidavit of Support, she has all the copies of everything sent in the original application (I-134, last 3 years of my tax returns, letter from employer, 401 K documents, & stock portfolio. Hopefully this is enough. I am really worried about this whole interview, I do not want any surprises.

  12. Both Cassie and Ellei are correct, the NVC simply gives your case a new number which the embassy will use and then ships them to the appropriate Embassies or Consulates.

I know there are some more detailed threads that aussiewench will probably offer, but to let you know the process at the NVC is essentially that they assign your petition a new case number and run a handful of security checks before forwarding it to the consulate/embassy of the beneficiary. Unless there are any serious hits returned by the security checks this is generally a very short stop (commonly no more than a couple weeks, though frequently only a few days). Should for some reason there be a name match on the security checks, the case can be put into Administrative Processing which can take a considerable length of time. However, you can likely expect that your petition will be finished at the NVC and on its way to the consulate/embassy soon. Good luck!

  13. I guess I am the newest member of Club Colombia. Just spoke with someone at NVC and she informed me that my package had been mailed out today to Bogota. So I am sending my fiancee (Luisa) all of our paperwork (after I make copies of everything) along with the DS230 (Part 1) Form. However I can not seem to find the OF-169 & DS-2001 Forms. Can someone send these to me??

  14. I too hope all of you recieve the NOA2 email in the next few days!! I have been looking at the timelines or rather flowchart of events after the NOA2 and it still seems like a long road ahead, but I must say that having this web site and being able to vent our frustrations has helped me so much over the last few weeks.

Again, I am sure all of you will be getting that email very very soon!!

  15. I'm contemplating sending this information to my contact at my senator's office in hopes that it could shed some light on how messed up this situation is. What do you guys think and would anyone else do the same, assuming you have a relationship with someone to send it to?

I am in favor of you sharing this info with your Senator, perhaps he can then get the CSC to shed some light on the dates being sort of backwards. May NOA1 dates getting the NOA2 before March NOA1 people.

  16. im pissed no one is gotten approvals today but in a weird way i feel good, if that is possible. the past 2 days of course i am happy for everyone, but checking that uscis site every 5 minutes saying "where is mine" i know people have been waiting longer than me. Yesterday i was thinking i must have messed up the app. some how , b/c i didnt get an approval. In a weird round about way and selfish way i feel better. if i dont get approved no one else did. dont want to make anyone angry just how i feel. now reading this thread where someone applied in june to csc and got there's. I mean this is PURA MIERDA!

Jpine you are correct, "!Todo esta jodido en CSC!"

  17. :crying:

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE RECEIVED YOUR NOA2s. Now where are the approvals for all of us that have been waiting since March!!!!!

Yes Congrats to all of those individuals that have recieved the NOA2 from California. I am very very happy for all of you. However I am really quite pissed at the same time, I have a NOA1 date of 3/24/05 and my case was transfered from Nebraska to California (I like to refer to CSC these days as Alcatraz) and I am still waiting on some kind of news, like oops we forgot about you so sorry or something along those lines!! :crying::crying::crying:

In the meantime I will be sitting in the corner holding my breath, you can call me blue or green boy for the time being.

  18. Well I am currently at 123 days since my NOA1 was received, I have been reading that some NOA2's have been going out from the CSC, however all of those applications are not the transfers from the NSC. Oooh and to make matter worse, some of those NOA2's have NOA1 dates from May!! So I think now I have a right to complain a bit and wonder what the heck is gon on with CSC and the Nebraska transfers. I have contacted both Senator Allard and Congressman Beaprea (I know I spelled it worng) and am waiting for them to possible getr some answers on what is going on the the Nebraska pile. Did it get lost on someones desk???

  19. I would love to join you in the Great Escape, infact I have done the swim before. It is not as hard as people make it out to be, it only took me about 26 minutes to get from Alcatraz over to Chrissy Field in San Fran. So please sign me up and let me know when I need to be ready!!

What month did you swim it?......

    how cold was the water?

Are you a pro swimmer or were you just lucky???

    inquiring minds want to know!!!!!

I did the swim in late May back in 1998 for the Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon, I would not call myself a pro swimmer, infact I didn't even train for the swim portion of the race, only the bike and run. There is actually a very strong current that pushes you towrds San Fran, you just need to swim at an angle to make the beach.

Nevertheless, I read on another thread where there are quite a few poeple (maybe 6 or 7) that have received the NOA2 from CSC (post March 6th NOA), none of these folks however were transfered from NSC.
